Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Good afternoon, Amanda and all! Hope others emerge from the woodwork like clandestine cephalopods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Amanda:

Ah, they will, in time. Trailing clouds of rage-ink no doubt!
  12:05pm sugarwolf:

  12:05pm P-90:

Clandestine no more!
  12:05pm MONEYBAG$:

I was told there would be ephemera
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Those are some funny lookin' dogs.
  12:06pm sugarwolf:

Amanda I have been cleaning and found a Monkees book you are welcome to have (if you don't already have it!)
  12:08pm P-90:

Happines is friends who find Monkees books and think of you. -Charles Schulz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Amanda:

Welcome, welcome, welcome, one and all! Next week I guess I have to bring a flexidisc as that's the most ephemeral medium I have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Amanda:

@sugarwolf, I'd love to take the book off your hands! btw Micky & Peter are coming our way on tour really soon, I don't know the exact date.
  12:12pm sugarwolf:

Cool, I'll bring it to the record fair sunday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Amanda:

Har har, @Doug :-P
Avatar 12:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 12:17pm Hoboken Jack:

"Tra la la la" (x4) is the best chorus since Sussudio
Avatar 12:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Doug: they're supposed to be as smart as dawgs!
Avatar 12:18pm northguineahills:

You've never heard of aquapups, Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Amanda:

@Jack, second only to "Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la" in "Cinnamon."
Avatar 12:20pm Hoboken Jack:

True that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Uncle Michael:

That creature is eyeballin' me.
Avatar 12:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(...favor a good Julian Cope 'ba-ba-ba' meself...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Isn't "Passionate Friend" the utmost?
Avatar 12:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@GF: Love the account in 'Head On' they do it on TotPops tripping absolute balls; the song is one which stops & starts over...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Gaylord Fields:

As is my second favorite Teardrop Explodes "ba-ba-ba"-refrain song, "When I Dream." Julian Cope is sheepish in the good way.
Avatar 12:26pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

w00t! Singalong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Gaylord Fields:

@ Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Lip-synching on acid is no joke.
  12:29pm a listener:

If it's Julian Cope 'ba ba ba's' you want then I respectfully suggest The Greatness and Perfection of Love.
  12:30pm a listener:

...and Hi to Amanda and everyone *waves*
  12:32pm MONEYBAG$:

I told my wife "anyway that you want me", she told me she wanted me to leave her alone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Gaylord Fields:

Speaking of Julian Cope on acid, I just remembered that at one point in his career, he insisted that his name was Kevin Stapleton and his band was called Whopper.
Avatar 12:35pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm listener james from westwood:

My guess on the substance was caffeine, but yes indeed, sunshine! And low allergen levels for now. Windows open!
  12:36pm sugarwolf:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@a listener: I haven't thought of that song in ages! Greatness and perfection, indeed!
Avatar 12:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- indeed - always rated the Copester as under-recognized for Unpopular Pop composing skills...
  12:41pm a listener:

@Gaylord it's one of those songs that the first time you hear it you think it's been around forever.Perfect Summer pop record in fact. Should have been a huge hit. That first solo record is still one of my faves.
Avatar 12:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...damn AmNazz ☆...
  12:46pm a listener:

Beatles nick from Everly's. Everly's nick from the Beatles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Uncle Michael:

Happy Willie Day, everyone. Smoke it if you got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @a listener: Julian was singularly adept at writing invisible pop hits. I currently have "Bill Drummond Said" rattling around my head looking for a place to settle. Even AmNazz's ace programming won't excise it!
  12:48pm dennis diken:

"Gone Gone Gone" - just too much! and that Dick & Dee Dee track, just great. methinks Dick did Dee Dee's vocals as well as his own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@dennis diken: Most people are unaware that Dick St. John actually sang the high and low parts on those D&DD records — Dee Dee sang the middle. (It was probably Dee Dee Sperling's replacement at that time anyway — or just Dick doing all the vocals, like you suggest.)
Avatar 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wondered when I'd finally be exposed to the Everlys' original (Plant&Krause)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm doctorjazz:

Hey all, work hectic but enjoying the tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Amanda:

I hope it's not gauche to "fave" your own playlist tunes but Gone, Gone, Gone is heading for that fate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: Fave away! Stand by your "product"!
  1:02pm sugarwolf:

@gaylord: In my head, I have bill Drummond singing "Julian cope is dead, I shot him in the head"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: That's my favorite fake Scots murder ballad!
  1:08pm a listener:

@sugarwolf @Gaylord beat me too it! First thing I thought of when Gaylord mentioned Bill Drummond Said!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Amanda:

Oi, something's wrong with my top octopus or Toptopus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Amanda:

Maybe just a problem with this computer
Avatar 1:16pm Hoboken Jack:

Top of the Poptupus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

Good to hear Martha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Gaylord Fields:

Which Martha? I always loved that there were two in the band.
  1:18pm a listener:

@Amanda nope. it's static here as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Amanda:

I want to know: did they ever tour with the Waitresses or did they at least know each other? In my dreams they did.
Avatar 1:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Non-lexical vocables in music' wigkey:
- I think Cope's are like horn parts? (a la 'A Quick One''s 'cellos'.) In 'Head On' he tells of The Jam walking past them in a studio as they're sprawled about in a state - & they dismissively say 'Hippies!' - but he notes they soon had horns on their records too...
  1:21pm a listener:

Hide and Seek sounded a bit B52s to my cloth ears...Vocally at least.
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

Ha, I just saw this episode!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm listener james from westwood:

The episode that introduced the term "punkass" into my vocab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Gaylord Fields:

I should use "The Real Comptroller Atkins" as a pseudonym.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm listener james from westwood:

That would be a good Simpsons trivia night moniker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm listener james from westwood:

"I'm learnding!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

Folks, it's with a heavy heart that I report the passing of Suzanne Crough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

52! Yikes!!
Avatar 1:29pm northguineahills:

arrr, do you have any spare change?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm listener james from westwood:

Nelson (panicked): "We never met!!"
Avatar 1:33pm jay c:

nothing like starting the morning with The Clash, excellent show today, Happy Wednesday to all!
Avatar 1:33pm ndbob:

@UM Indeed - I saw that
Avatar 1:35pm Hoboken Jack:

I could listen to you say "Onderstroom" all day
Avatar 1:38pm northguineahills:

I read, "Are you there God, it's me Margaret", when I was a kid.
  1:39pm sugarwolf:

Ha ha the PTSs!! I was horrified to realize I'm the same age as Nancy Wheeler's mom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm listener james from westwood:

I'm crushed I won't be able to make it to the Record Fair this year, but I'm looking forward to hearing what-all the local FMU DJs buy when they play their swag on their shows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Doug Schulkind:

This quite lovely.
  1:44pm P-90:

"A Shankar Shade of Pale?" -sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Amanda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm listener james from westwood:

Reminds me of long-lost WPAT, the beautiful music station for the NYC area, to which I listened a lot as a tween. (It's where I first heard "Love on the Rocks.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Amanda:

Ahh, thank you for recognizing Caravelli as beautiful.
  1:54pm P-90:

WPAT! They were THE "Muzak" station in NY/NJ for many years. Didn't even realize they were "long-lost."
Avatar 1:54pm Dominick:

Oh Lordy, The Illusion! 18 years old, Leone's in Long Beach, 7&7's (hey, I was just learning!)
  1:54pm SeanG:

Did you read that rumpus article about poetry and octopuses? it was a great one
Avatar 1:55pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar 1:55pm Hoboken Jack:

Soon Amanda will be gone gone gone. Thanks for another fine show....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Amanda:

@SeanG, I didn't, but now I am intrigued.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

@P-90: I believe it's a Spanish-language station now. The places where it would be played likely now have satellite feeds for this sort of thing.
Related: I once heard a soft-version cover of Yaz's "Only You" in a supermarket. "Only You" is not exactly a tooth-rattler of a tune to begin with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm listener james from westwood:

Smashing programme, Amanda!
  1:59pm a listener:

well, thanks again Amanda and everyone on the board for another great show. I'm off to watch my team get slaughtered by the league leaders. Stupid game...
