Perfect start Joe, how could it be otherwise? John Renbourn RIP...
Avatar 9:03am Sem Chumbo:

OK, Joe. Pentangle! Good morning.

Morning Joe and friends
Avatar 9:07am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Now that both Bert and John are gone, I'm extra-grateful that I got along to the 40th anniversary Pentangle reunion concerts in 2008 (which were brilliant, as if they'd never split up).
Avatar 9:08am V Priceless:

good morning, Joe!

good morn
Avatar 9:12am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Wow, I almost requested this a few minutes ago! A rare Renbourn Pentangle vocal. When I saw him play a tiny solo gig I spoke to him afterwards to find out something I always wanted to know: was it him or Bert playing the distorted electric guitar on "Lord Franklin"? It was him, he told me. Bert was playing a concertina he'd bought the day before and sold the next day. Jacqui's backing vocals on this are just celestial...
Avatar 9:12am Joe McG:

Good mornings, all! Starting today's show with a doff of the cap to John Renbourn.

Avatar 9:30am the Canterbury wood-elf:

The "A Maid in Bedlam" album was 1977, not '87, if anyone's interested. Apologies for the pedantry!
Avatar 9:30am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe, knew we could rely on you to do the decent thing.
Avatar 9:31am Brian in UK:

@Elf the album may have been but the CD?
Avatar 9:32am Joe McG:

@Elf: Thanks for the assistance! I sometimes forget to fill in the "real" year on the playlists. HI, everyone, and welcome!
Avatar 9:34am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Brian Discogs sez you're right. Surprisingly early for a CD reissue of this kind of thing. Joe's been putting the original year of issue in the "Comments" column, so the absence of that made me think he'd mistyped a digit...
Avatar 9:35am Sem Chumbo:

This crowd is going to keep you on your toes, Joe:-D
Avatar 9:35am Brian in UK:

Hey Sem. Got the sun cream out yet?
Avatar 9:37am Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 9:41am the Canterbury wood-elf:

More pronunciation pedantry: Bert pronounced his surname as "Yansch". Sorry Joe : )
Avatar 9:43am d¢ pät:

Avatar 9:44am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Ouch. OK, lots of other people over here seem to have decided (wrongly) it was "Yansch". I admit I never heard Bert say his own name...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning, gang!
Swervedriver was technically the first band I ever saw live, since they opened for Smashing Pumpkins.
Avatar 9:44am Joe McG:

@Elf: Yes, sorry, Elf! I said "Yansch" for years myself before reading the book "Dazzling Stranger" and that was all cleared up. Great read, btw!
Avatar 9:45am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Wiki: "The family name is pronounced /ˈjænʃ/ yansh by almost everyone except Jansch himself."

I'll check my facts next time!
Avatar 9:47am d¢ pät:

That sounded kinda 90'sish.

I'm always surprised how few Eno covers there are, considering his pervasive influence. This one's new to me.

Something to watch out for in coming weeks: Canterbury's chamber-folk sextet Arlet are releasing their second album with an acoustic cover of "The Big Ship" (as suggested to them by me) www.arlet.co.uk

OK, Andrea and fredr: Help me out with this one!
Avatar 10:42am herb.nyc:

hi joe. nice song, "gotta find a way". when they mention philadelphia and other cities, it reminds me of a new yorker small article on politico SHELDON SILVER, and they said he'd fly from nyc to albany w/a layover in phila, just for the extra miles. he's a very corrupt man. uh, allegedly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Stevel:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Karen in Sleepy Hollow:

Dangit! I hate when I'm late for Single File.
  10:45am andrea:

Joe McG , as you can hear the singer of "io voglio and are in guerra" has a funny accent (to me at least). Foreign singers that sung with an amaerican english accent were pretty standard for the period and the music of the 60s in Italy. (also, some italian were faking it to sound like them because it was a style thing). Taka a taK!!!! (is only onomatopoeia sounds).
Avatar 10:45am Joe McG:

@andrea: You're right, he's French! The French Bob Dylan. He's singing about being too old for the war?
  10:47am andrea:

@Joe McG for the few word I could listen to (I'm actually working right now :P) he sings about wanting to go to war and kill people. But I missed most of it, so do not quote me on this.
Avatar 10:48am Joe McG:

Hi, Karen! @andrea: I like that version much better!

Just want to say, that ABC’s “When Smokey Sings” is the one song in the world I would like to smack in the face. I hate that song. So coy and clever. Worse than bad Morrissey.
