Hi, Irene. I hope the marathon funds hold out until the 2016 marathon. No Hurricane Sandy kind of thing between now and then.

great to hear this. hi irene.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:10pm redkayak:

Hi all! Kudos to WFMU for reaching their goals!
  9:13pm JakeGould:

Phew… Irene is here… For a second I thought this was a cult music show fill-in.
  9:13pm JakeGould:

@redkayak: I read that as “…reaching their goats!” Just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Santos, Ken, bloopy, jon, redkayak and Jake! We're going to have a spacey time together tonight. Glad you're all here. And massive thanks to all who pledged to support this great radio adventure for another year. I (we) greatly appreciate it here at WFMU.

@jake Nothing but praise on my end. No goats on this team, lol.....

  9:25pm P-90:

Good Evening DJ Irene and everyone. The cat on the Showpage reminds me of a girl I used to go out with...
  9:33pm JakeGould:

@P-90: Short, blonde, dilated pupils, gaping maw and gunk between her teeth?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Irene Trudel:

redkayak, there's a whole lot of those pics of Cats on Synthesizers in Space on Tumblr, FB and Twitter. I must come up with a few of my own to add. Some are quite brilliant-- this one's my fave at the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Irene Trudel:

Jake, I think our kitty is saying, "My God, it's full of stars..."

@jake @irene Nice.... Arthur Clarke would be proud!

Clay you and Matt did a quite a nice job at the finale.
  10:08pm Listener Phillip in Brooklyn:

First time tuning in. Is that what Irene plays? Hippie music?
  10:09pm JakeGould:

@Folsom: People still pledge past the goat if you check the widget-thing.

I was suprises myself when I watched the hoof
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Clay! Gotta drag out the Hippie music every so often. Listener Phillip, no not every week. But the music I play is kinda laid back in general.
  10:12pm kme_in_chi:

Call it what you like; I'm loving every minute of this show. Can't wait to see Ryley at Chopin Theater for his record release party in just a few days!
Avatar 10:12pm Ryab:

Lots of those songs beat the originals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm coelacanth:

Hi Irene and Hippies
Avatar 10:12pm gongoleer:

No @Listener Philip in Brooklyn. It's different each week but always with good taste & variety. BTW, it's not hippie music.

My other bike is a tree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm coelacanth:

bigots don't deserve you. they may exit stage right.
  10:15pm Listener Phillip in Brooklyn:

I don't hate hippie, let me make that clear. I don't hate anyone. I just think it's time for the hippies to stop hogging the spotlight and let the youngsters have their day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, youngsters make good Hippie music too. I've played some of them on my show. ;D
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm redkayak:

Now, my brother was an honest to God hippie - back in the day. He liked all sorts of music...
Avatar 10:20pm gongoleer:

Well if Irene considers it Hippie, I won't challenge that. Didn't get "hate" from your message. Peace to you. If not for the hippies, the youngsters wouldn't have anything to refer to. Right on, Irene. Power to All People.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:21pm redkayak:

yes.....what gongoleer said :)
Avatar 10:22pm gongoleer:

WAs anybody out there around for Woodstock '69?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm coelacanth:

i'd bet that if there's 20 people on this comment board, there's at least 7-10 definitions of "hippie".
  10:23pm JakeGould:

You know what is worse than ironic hippie talk? Extended whiny ironic hippie talk.
Avatar 10:27pm Ryab:

I don't know if the hippie hate is a bandwagon thing here, but everybody seems pretty united.
Avatar 10:28pm gongoleer:

@redkayak; you in the states? And to @coelacanth & @jake gould, Hippie originally was a misnomer to begin with & who's whining? Where are you folks getting the sense of Hippie Hate? We are just discussing. Let's move on!
  10:29pm JakeGould:

Blah, blah… Beatniks, hipsters, goofballs, freaks and geeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...geez - one joke about Traffic (an extraordinary track)...
Avatar 10:30pm Ryab:

Seems like they all belong at FMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm coelacanth:

gongoleer, you obviously have misconstrued something i said.
Ryab, if you're weak you jump on the dis-hippie bandwagon...or some other pre-judging bandwagon.
  10:31pm rw:

Hey Kids!
Avatar 10:33pm Ryab:

I prefer spaceships to wagons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm coelacanth:

hi rw!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:34pm redkayak:

Well, I for one am grateful for young musicians. All the ones in my demographic are falling off the stage lately, lol...
Avatar 10:36pm Ryab:

What musicians do you think have gotten better since entering later years?
Avatar 10:36pm Clay:

As far as hippies go, it was not easy being counter-culture in the Vietnam/Nixon 60's. You could get your face kicked in for having hair over your ears, or be drafted and sent to Vietnam. That being said, there is certainly GREAT music from ALL eras, ages, and genres. Peace!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm coelacanth:

i'm positive i listen to a far greater variety of new music than 9_% of "young" people; but i cannot ignore the renaissance of creativity that was the 60s-70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm coelacanth:

Ryab -Nick Cave. Tom Waits. Radiohead, maybe.
Avatar 10:39pm Clay Pigeon:

Dylan is still great. Who do you think has gotten better, Ryab?
Avatar 10:39pm Ryab:

I think it is a little bit difficult to gauge how Thom Yorke's quality of output has changed.
  10:39pm rw:

Enjoying the show Irene!

That dude from Swans seems to be holding up pretty well.
Avatar 10:41pm Ryab:

Well I'm learning a lot still about the histroy of music, but I think Reznor is evolving for the better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm coelacanth:

yes definitely! Swans were great;took a dive;came back strong.
and radiohead has been great since the beginning; but one could say their music is more sophisticated now.
Avatar 10:42pm gongoleer:

coelacanth, actually I was agreeing with you but I guess it was ambiguous by mentioning that hippie in actuality was an improper label. That was all. Sorry if I confused you or anyone else.
Avatar 10:43pm Ryab:

It's interesting how fame and success affects some peoples' ability to be creative and innovative.
Avatar 10:44pm Clay Pigeon:

Ryab ... or, perhaps Joe Walsh was right when he sang .... "It's hard to handle this fortune and fame, everybody's so different, I haven't changed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm coelacanth:

gongoleer, we're good!
Avatar 10:49pm Ryab:

Hahaha. Me too Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm adrian in mpls:

just got here - can't believe you played a Flashpap'r song! I remember seeing them play in a park in Ann Arbor soooo many years ago now! Which is probably when my giant Fred Thomas crush started.
Avatar 10:50pm gongoleer:

10-4 coelacanth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm coelacanth:

Ryab, that, and some folks just have a finite bunch of ideas.(or so they think)
Avatar 10:50pm Ryab:

I'm mad I'm not getting Irenes premium after I drained my disposable funds
Avatar 10:51pm Clay Pigeon:

Porcupine Tree Steven Wilson?
Avatar 10:51pm gongoleer:

coelacanth, in other words, roger that.
  10:51pm melinda:

I like the hippie music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm coelacanth:

did you choose already? i'm waiting for the form. you don't have to decide 'till you send the form.
Avatar 10:52pm Ryab:

I submitted electronically.
  10:53pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: I hate the term “one hit wonder” or even “whatever happened to them?” Sometimes people create one amazing, beautiful thing that resonates with others and that’s it. Others go on to churn out turn upon turd like Robin Thicke.
Avatar 10:54pm Ryab:

That's what I hate when I mention Butthole Surfers to people. Most know them as "That band that sang Pepper" and I'm just like sdagasdgasgar most of their amazing stuff never got limelight.
Avatar 10:56pm gongoleer:

yes melinda and those colorful clothes they wore.
  10:56pm JakeGould:

@Ryab: Who cares about other people in that regard? If you are past the age of 17 who really cares and judges people on music taste like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, adrian, that's so good to hear about Flashpap'r. They played on my show once a number of years ago and I always wondered what happened to them. Nice guys. And Clay, yes it's Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson. I guess the new album is just out but I don't have an actual copy yet. (Ordering it payday.) I already have tickets to see him at the end of May (2 NYC concerts 5/29 & 30).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm coelacanth:

that's lots of bands/people,right?. if we dig there's usually some good stuff...just maybe not as catchy.
Avatar 11:00pm Clay Pigeon:

Irene ... Two nights. Wow! My old Florida friend Wes Dearth plays on the road with PT. a/k/a/ John Wesley. He is a brilliant musician.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Gaylord Fields:

I'm looking forward to the Orrin Keepnews tribute show. He was such an important figure in jazz, and I anticipate learning more about him from you and Peter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm coelacanth:

"the only ones",a good example. they were more sophisticated than "another girl, another planet".
...and Marcy Playground played at a festival i was at in the late 90s (they did"sex & candy"-pure bubblegum) -their whole set besides that song was hardcore punk!
Avatar 11:02pm Ryab:

It isn't really a judgement thing, at least not in an individualistic sense; moreso a judgment of what makes music popular. I just know what I like. I suppose it's a good thing that bands reach the top of the charts with some of the singles that are the least interesting of what they have made.
  11:03pm slawooy:

who's a freaking drummer on this one i l o v e this drummmmmmmmmmmmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Santos L Halper:

This Steven Wilson is pretty good. Maybe the new album is a good place to start exploring his stuff? Or anyone have suggestions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Gaylord! I've been urging Peter to get a couple of people to call in. But it might just be a musical tribute to Orrin, which would be great as music alone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm coelacanth:

i need to try to get a book back, lent to a bartender around september.
Thank you Irene
ciao humans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Irene Trudel:
