Hey everyone!
Avatar 3:06pm V Priceless:

Yes! Some Far Away Beach! Make it so, Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm sphere:

  3:08pm phat:

It really doesn't get more beautiful than Some Far Away Beach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm cory:

good whatever time of day it is where you are.
Avatar 3:09pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

Hiya, Fabio, and the Strengthened.

Avatar 3:11pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This bit of exotica fits perfectly. I was inspired to pull out the Mondo Cane soundtrack earlier, to contrast the snow scene out the winders...
Avatar 3:11pm Claw!:

Hey hey hey
  3:12pm JakeGould:

Where is there a faraway beach? All I see is snow.
Avatar 3:12pm steve:

ahh the soothing sounds are just what i need...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Rich in Washington:

Decibel is some amazing stuff. So much great stuff from Mexico. Almost completely unheard here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Guido from Cologne:

Hello everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Ike:

I've saved up *my* shekels for the marathon! Anybody who hasn't -- time to stop drinking that fucking expensive artisanal coffee NOW and use your dusty old french press instead. Then you'll have a few bucks for FMU in the next few weeks, you damn hipster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm chris:

Hello, Fabio, Failures! @Ike: word.
  3:29pm Dean:

Chemex. There is the ongoing expense of filters, but the cleaning costs are less.
Avatar 3:29pm steve:

i just my tax refund... now there is some good news. extra moneys for the marathon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Ike:

(Or cut back on the jazz cigarettes. Those things are expensive.)
Avatar 3:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Screw the french press. Make mine weapons-grade ethiopian beans in a rusty old percolator every time, forever.
Avatar 3:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That said, I'll be slingin' coins at the marathon...
Avatar 3:30pm Cecile:

I already paid a mouse of today in full to sponsor Diane.

Yeah, what the Rev said.
Avatar 3:31pm steve:

i think i may move up from adopting inanimate and semianimate objects to adopting a human this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Guido from Cologne:

Agree about "The Sacred Idol " + "Ports of Pleasure".
Avatar 3:31pm steve:

nice Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Ike:

I really know nada about coffee, being a Ten Ren loose-leaf tea guy. @RTD, does good Ethiopian restaurants & groceries in D.C. also mean good Ethiopian java beans? Do they have a hint of injera and/or a whisper of sauteed collards?
Avatar 3:31pm V Priceless:

nice work, Cecile!
  3:34pm Dean:

I know zilch about artisinal anything. Coffee? Trader Joe's Bay Blend works just swell in a Chemex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm chris:

Speaking of Diane, I just pre-ordered the new Blind Idiot God album... need more heavy dub in my life. That did *not* cut into marathon duckets, I'll have you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm SeanG:

love Sexy Beast
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Ike:

@Dean, everything at TJ's is as artisanal as I usually get. Discount artisanal. That's how I roll. Cheap grocery prices = saving $$$... for FMU!!!
Avatar 3:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Ike: There's a fantastic Ethiopian roastery in my old neighborhood; so it means a regular visit back up there to score a couple bags of Harrar dark. It's the nectar of glorious hell-yay-stuff.
  3:36pm nic:

78º here :-)
Avatar 3:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

i wouldn't call it "artisanal," more like good old-fashioned authentic rocket-fuel.
Avatar 3:37pm Chris from DC:

RTD, what's the name of that joint? I may have to try that when the glaciers recede and it's safe to go back out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Ike:

Under the Skin is FREAKY. A creepy sci-fi movie with no explanations and no exposition? A rare sight indeed.
  3:39pm JakeGould:

Going out in the snow. I hear some dog from the Norwegian station is on the lose. Some helicopter is buzzing overhead. Gotta help them, right?
Avatar 3:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Toad from DC: Harrar, on Georgia Ave @ Harvard St. Tiny place, run by lovely people. Endorsed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm DCE:

hi all.
Avatar 3:43pm Chris from DC:

Ah, noted Rev. That does sound pretty good.
Avatar 3:47pm Cecile:

I think the water has a lot to do with it. I've had coffee snobs enjoy my Folger's, made with good cold Mpls city water and a Mr. Coffee.
Avatar 3:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 3:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

True, Cecile: It could be placebo nonsense, but there seems to be a huge difference with just filtering DC tap water vs. straight. The beans are worth it. They died so that we might live.
  3:49pm nic:

Toho Sara _ yes !!!
  3:50pm Dean:

Huge fan of placebos. At least I think I am.
Avatar 3:51pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

The tiniest bit of salt in the grounds helps, I have found, regardless of the quality of the Arabicas in question. Robustas are just too acidic for me, any time, so I just give 'em a miss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm SeanG:

hahaha Dean
Avatar 3:54pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[dean for the win]
  3:58pm Mark:

Dark Sunny Land sounds like when they go through the serial killer's house when he's not there, and there's like pictures of victims and notebooks and maybe a doll or two...very creepy and very cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Ike:

Trader Joe's has the best placebos. They're cheap and they work better than any other brand.
  4:04pm Dean:

I'm having the hardest time finding a placebo for sugar pills.
Avatar 4:04pm Chris from DC:

I only use artisanal placebos.
Avatar 4:05pm Claw!:

No placebos for me, thanks. Too many toxins.
  4:05pm Robert:

Anyone notice how "Faraway Beach" (an hour ago) starts out just like "Still the Same"?
  4:05pm Dean:

It's all in your head, Claw!
  4:07pm Robert:

Dean, you joke, but I was involved in setting up a clinical trial of a dietary supplement, and it was hard to get the placebo & product to match in appearance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm cory:

boy, i hope my adoption goes through
Avatar 4:09pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

The pill my doctor gave me doesn't do anything at all...except make me sicker.
"A nocebo (Latin for "I shall harm") is an inert substance that creates harmful effects in a patient."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Tome:

get him Clay
  4:12pm Dean:

Robert, that seems totally plausible. As a layman, I find the whole concept of placebos fascinating. The term "placebo" tends to the layman to mean "ineffective" (as in, "It was just a placebo."), but of course that's the very question under investigation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DCE:

@ Robert, I noticed that too about that first track
Avatar 4:13pm Chris from DC:

And of course we know the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.
  4:14pm Dean:

Just imagine that all those '60s psychedelic bands were in fact inspired by placebos.
  4:18pm Robert:

Well, it wouldn't've been that hard had the sponsor not changed the product from a pill to a capsule. The contents were different-colored powders, and you could see them thru the capsule wall. And that was after they'd gone to some previous trouble to get a slightly mottled-shell pill made to match their one-off production run!
  4:21pm Robert:

Whew, DCE, I thought nobody else noticed music similarities I did! Lately I've been trying to get others to acknowledge a similarity--not in melody, but other ways--between "Promises" by Barreracudas & "You May Think I'm Crazy" by the Cars. I think they deliberately tried to evoke it as a pastiche, an inside joke, whatever.
Avatar 4:22pm chocolate monk:

classic JU SUK!!
Avatar 4:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What the Monk exclaimed!
  4:24pm Robert:

And if you think it's hard for me to get others to notice "echoes" in MUSIC I hear, you should see the trouble I have convincing others that "Lost" was deliberately modeled on some earlier stories that were clues to its real, inapparent, solution.
Avatar 4:25pm chocolate monk:

i was sitting here making loops for a gig in Leeds on saturday, i might as well put my shit away.
Avatar 4:26pm Chris from DC:

New to me. This is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm SeanG:

yeah good stuff
  4:27pm V Priceless:

If spring ever arrives, I plan on building a nice little placebo in my back yard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm DCE:

I will join you there for a placebeer
  4:29pm V Priceless:

Due to the adverse and prolonged weather conditions here in NY, I hold myself harmless from insane ramblings here or abroad.
Avatar 4:31pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

Isn't it pronounced PLACE-ebo, like Placebo Domingo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm DCE:

bringing in the sheep, bringing in the sheep
  4:33pm V Priceless:

"Place e-bow over guitar string..."

Avatar 4:44pm northguineahills:

I've seen Kes, it's a great fun movie!
Avatar 4:46pm northguineahills:

(a little twee, maybe, but a great film revealing old albion in the then modern world in a children's friendly manner)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Philthy woman:

Bunny Lake is missing! I wish I was in NYC
Avatar 4:49pm Cecile:

Fail-Safe is pretty damn good

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DCE:

pretty much the only movies I see are from TCM. Always check the guides on Saturday nights/early Sundays, they get adventurous sometimes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm DCE:

I would love to Charlemagne Palestine--lucky you, ngh!
Avatar 4:53pm Chris from DC:

Saw Charlemagne Palestine at Hopscotch a couple of years ago, and I envy you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Mutant:

Sad - I hadn't heard that Dockstader had passed. RIP
Avatar 4:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'm late to the Tod party, but have been intensely enjoying the discovery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Mutant:

There was a recent documentary.
  4:58pm w:

Kes was far from a fun film as I recall. The kid was in a broken home and the love of his life, Kes, was killed by an asshole!
  4:58pm Dean:

Sorry to hear about Dockstader.
  4:59pm float:

Walked past the music Archive on White St NYC and they have Nimoy's "The Touch" LP in the window. Nature Boy is perfect overlaid over Luna Park.
Avatar 5:00pm TDK60:

Didn't know Tod D. died. I enjoy his ambient/noise sounds.
Avatar 5:02pm TDK60:

w: Most of Loach's films are far from fun; they show a reality, often grim, of working class life in Britain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Guido from Cologne:

  5:06pm Dean:

Love the Aerial records.
Avatar 5:07pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, I think this is my favorite work of his.
Avatar 5:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

For god dammit's sake, someone take my money immediately.
Avatar 5:08pm northguineahills:

(My definition of fun may differ from yours) I think Sweet Movie by Dusan Makavejev was the first movie I saw the second time, and said, "nope!", too dark for me....! (still a good movie to see once, only once).
Avatar 5:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Clicky-stars like snowflakes...
Avatar 5:09pm Chris from DC:

All sourced from short wave, I believe?
Avatar 5:10pm Whosondephone:

This sounds so cool. I have two speakers in separate rooms at the shop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Philthy woman:

Great show Fabio! I will def be listening to this again in archives!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm dale:

this is headphones and jazz cigarette territory
  5:18pm JakeGould:

The snow in NYC right now is pretty nice to be outside in. A few hours or even tomorrow? Not so sure.
  5:23pm Robert:

JG, I even had an urge to get dressed & go out in it a few mins. ago, when I had nowhere to go, so I did for a few mins.
Avatar 5:23pm steve:

i thought i was a fan of Dockstader, i am apparently now a super fan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm dale:

this dude did top cat and hokie wolf sound effects? i can see it.

Snow Future for you!

Hi everyone, hi placebo artisans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm common:

hey matt, fabio, you all. this has been great snow watching muzak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Matt from Springfield:

And Amen, Rev! The coffee beans "died so that we might live" - that's the old-time rocket-fuel religion, and it's good enuff for me!

Hiya common! This is mighty fine Snowzak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm common:

  5:40pm Marcel M:

Oy vey... What a day.
Avatar 5:41pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

Hiya, the Matt, noted Springfield caffeine fiend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Matt from Springfield:

'61 - what a pioneer! So long, you electronaut...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Ahhh, wonderful Essence I sense walking over! Hiya SEoG!
I can be both a friend and fiend of caffeine, which is kind of the same thing! I'll go with "fiend" for the cool doubling up of "-feine" sound! :)
  5:47pm nic:

this is really cool
Avatar 5:50pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe:

Isn't English odd, in that those vowels sequences are not the same, but...you know, assonance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Guido from Cologne:

Ah, now I discover "24 Track Loop".
As the title sais: This was a dub song anyway.
Did they use the original on this?

Avatar 5:52pm Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 5:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I'm not unstable...I just really need to have a conversation w/ anyone about anything @ all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Matt from Springfield:

English is quite odd, but it's a nicer way to say it than "uneven"! ;)

And hi fellow caffiend RRN63!
Avatar 5:54pm TDK60:

I hope there are no Deniers of the oncoming Marathon here.
  5:55pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Guido from Cologne:

And this is the version of the same song called "pool" from Recommended Records Sampler. i don't know which version I like better.
  5:55pm V Priceless:

@ Dean: Fish !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Converse about the weather then, you've been so generous sending your weather down my way, but...don't ya think it's bout time to save some for *next* winter??
Avatar 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...when the sea-levels rise, you'll all be up here in the hills anyways...
Avatar 5:57pm northguineahills:

This is some nice This Heat...
  5:58pm Dean:

@VP: I thought it was pronounced goatee.
Avatar 5:58pm Sem Chumbo:

Thanks, Fabio. Beautiful sounds, as always. See ya later.
