Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Uncle Michael:

I just complimented you on Duane's playlist, Amanda. How embarrassking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Carmichael:

Scott Walker on helium, maybe. This can't be ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

Oh, it sure can, Carmichael.
Avatar 12:50pm ndbob:

from about 1958?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Uncle Michael:

About. Noel Scott Engel, to be precise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

So...what was the scenario the other night? Was there a good turnout at the Simpsons meet-up?
Avatar 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...now we know why Scott Walker is so bitter & anti-union...wait - what??...
Avatar 12:52pm KP:

Wow. Never heard this Monkees track. Nice find!
  12:54pm Dean:

If this is supposed to be the Beatles in mono, how come the song isn't "Please Me"?
Avatar 12:55pm KP:

Love Freddy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Amanda:

Oooooh, I see what you did there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Gotta run to work. Hey, I said work, not twerk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Carmichael:

Like a J-O-B, Doug??
Avatar 12:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Dean: it was still recorded to two tracks.
...Gerry's Kids...
  12:59pm Dean:

@RRNov63: So you're saying if it were recorded to 24 tracks it'd be "Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Me"?
Avatar 1:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if you please...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Carmichael:

Crumb and his wife used to live 2 or 3 miles down a country road from me, before he went to Paris. He's quite a character.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

Amanda is not in mono!
Avatar 1:01pm David Shortell:

Who sang that Cheap Suit Serenaders track? "Mickey Rat" creator Bob Armstrong?
Avatar 1:04pm KP:

Everyone in Liverpool sounds - and looks - like Paul McCartney.
Avatar 1:05pm ndbob:

I'm much more used to the mono recordings of the first few Beatles LPs
Avatar 1:05pm KP:

The American versions of the Beatles songs is a great way to hear them from a fresh and often better perspective
  1:06pm Woo:

He sounded like McCartney before McCartney was killed in a car crash and John buried him.
  1:07pm Dean:

I'm very bored.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Stevel:

In late to the comments but I got to hear the opening set elsewhere. It was a keeper!
  1:08pm Dean:

Luap deirub i.
Avatar 1:10pm ndbob:

@KP Kind of the opposite with me - being old enough to have heard the American mono recordings when they were new - Sgt. Pepper may have been the first one I heard in stereo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Greg from Bloomfield:

SO bummed I missed Simpsons night. Monday after Super Bowl Sunday: YIKES. Not the awesomest I've ever felt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

If anyone hears a weird noise behind the mix, it's me chopping shallots.
Avatar 1:14pm northguineahills:

I missed Simpsons night as my mother-in-law was in town, and she doesn't speak English, so, it would have been awkward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Amanda:

Aww, it's OK Greg and ngh! We had a good turnout considering all the factors of weather, Superbowl, Monday etc. This answers Ken from HP's question too I hope. It was fun.

Thanks for indulging my Beatle and Beatle-adjacent obsession everyone :-) Those tracks are so short it was hard to keep up with all the track info but I'll fill it in later.
Avatar 1:22pm Roberto:

Go Simpsons peeps!
Avatar 1:22pm KP:

nd Bob, i know what you mean because i course also knew the mono releases. but after years of antiseptic stereo the older tracks are refreshing. Also there was much manipulating for the American market. Most obviously reverb was poured all over those first few singles making them sound rich and powerful comared to the "real ones." Also the Lps, right up to but not including pepper were substantially different and every choice seemed better on the US ones. I used to have bootleg copies of all this but they sort of disappeared along the way.
Avatar 1:24pm Roberto:

I'd like to have attended, but that would have meant leaving the house.
Avatar 1:30pm Roberto:

Ooh I'm a grammar robot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Greg from Bloomfield:

THAT'S where that's from. I was designing an envelope yesterday and I put "123 Fake St" as the address.
Avatar 1:37pm ndbob:

@KP I never liked the stereo on the early Beatles songs - way too much separation
Avatar 1:45pm jay c:

ripping the tunes as usual, great show! happy wednesday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Charlie:

I go Poco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

Poco logo by Troy McLure!
  1:51pm KP:

Ndbob, stereo no, but the added echo on first few us releases sounds awesome
Avatar 1:52pm Dominick:

  1:52pm KP:

Avatar 1:52pm Roberto:

This song is a good fit for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Charlie:

All right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Carmichael:

I have Troy's Poco logo as a tattoo, uh ... "somewhere" on my body.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

I've always suspected as much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Stevel:

Amanda always makes me smile. Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm doctorjazz:

TAJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My Rebbe!!!!
Avatar 1:56pm Dominick:

ndbob & KP there are positives to each version. Familiarity with hearing the USA mono versions while i was a kid makes them "right" in my brain but there is no denying they have the lo end cut, compressed and smeared with reverb and have several generations of noise and distortion added. Hearing the UK mono mixes the 1st time was a revelation
Avatar 1:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Amanda:

Hey, thanks all for listening today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for all the fun, Amanda!

Crap, it's two!?? Thanks again Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

Argh, I missed some of Simpsons Time owing to a phone call. Will hit in archive. Sounded like the Linguo ep!

Many thanks for the kickass show! Always 2 brief!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Amanda:

This is a late reply to @David Shortell about the R. Crumb track... I wasn't able to confirm for sure who's singing, but Bob Armstrong is a good guess. To me it doesn't sound like Crumb himself.
