Hi Cat! hi Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Van (and whoever comes after)! I made it in.
Avatar 9:04pm Van in DC:

Before The Dawn is still not on sale on DVD. Just getting that out there. And I had thought it would be an Xmas goodie for us. Oh well. I will keep an eye out, you can bet on that.
Avatar 9:04pm gongoleer:

You're a dedicated trooper & professional. How quickly a week goes. I'm all ears & eagerly await your selections. A welcomed interlude from the blizzard we've had up here in VT. You guys lucked out. Whew!
  9:04pm Cooh John:

Hi Irene. I made it too.
Avatar 9:06pm Van in DC:

lol that has to be the top hashtag of all time - #catsofinstagram :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Irene Trudel:

Yeah, @gongoleer, NYC just got sideswiped by the storm. New Englanders got the worst of it.
Avatar 9:08pm Alec:

Avatar 9:08pm gongoleer:

Mass. especially & Long Island. Poor Don.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Santos L Halper:

Evening! Sounds like the Cellar and Point would have been good; hope to catch them when they do come in.
Avatar 9:09pm gongoleer:

Be back in a few. Gotta walk the dog. Not the song.
Avatar 9:10pm Van in DC:

Nello wasn't excited about the snow, Nello was listening to Irene's warm up for the show.

Avatar 9:14pm Van in DC:

......sooooo any Tangerine Dream tonight? Edgar Froese, great loss. Glad to see that Jeffrey played them. Are the legendary at this point? In my opinion, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Santos L Halper:

This Johnny McLaughlin LP seems to be in heavy rotation; i've heard like 5 different tracks from it in recent weeks. A good thing, mind you...
Avatar 9:17pm Van in DC:

I actually followed Klaus Shulze as well way back when, when he left TD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Santos, C&P bandmember Chris and I discussed at length whether they should come in. Their cellist was stranded out of town and I thought travel might be too difficult. Who knew! We'll pick a new date soon I hope.
Avatar 9:18pm bobdoesthings:

that's one fine looking cat. good evening
Avatar 9:19pm Van in DC:

Bob, I see what you did there
Avatar 9:19pm bobdoesthings:

my cat's view is only of brick walls and apartment windows.. and a tiny stretch of sky.. he's not so privileged as featured kitty.
  9:20pm jon:

hi irene and everybody here tonight.

that larry coryell track was amazing imho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Polyus:

Irene, I get to see Olivia Chaney on Valentine's Day, in a cozy (read: tiny) venue. Ain't that romantic?
Avatar 9:20pm bobdoesthings:

@van in DC - I didn't even see what I did there... until you pointed it out.. Is it too late to say "pun intended" ... yeah it is...
Avatar 9:21pm Van in DC:

Avatar 9:23pm Van in DC:

Man oh man, the March fundraiser just can't come soon enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Irene Trudel:

Guess McLaughlin in in our collective minds. I thought of him because of a great guitar concert I saw with my husband Peter the other night--Pat Martino Trio + Larry Coryell-Vic Juris duo. Oh, there might also be some Tangerine Dream tonight.
Avatar 9:24pm Van in DC:

How about a Don Bikoff follow up Irene? :)

That guy has amazing fingers when guitars are concerned....
Avatar 9:25pm Van in DC:

Oops, don't want to over step.... TD would be just fine :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm neil:

Great guitarists in that show, Irene. I love what you're playing!
Avatar 9:27pm Van in DC:

I'll shut up and listen now :P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Irene Trudel:

@Polyus, thanks for reminding me-- I have a download of Olivia's new album waiting for me! She's playing Rockwood Music Hall in NYC Feb. 5th.
Avatar 9:31pm gongoleer:

How old is Coryell. I first saw & heard him at the Village Gate in 1968/69 as a young up & coming guitaisrt. He was amazing even then. Irene, there's an echo reverb on your mic. coming through the radio. Intentionally? I don't think so.
Avatar 9:31pm Van in DC:

In case I crash - shout out to all of you archive listeners.

I'm looking at you Sean in UK, Matt from Springfield, Kat... others.... I might be right with you actually.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:31pm redkayak:

Hi all! Hope you're all surviving Juno out there :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Ike:

Actually a big reason to complain was that the subways HAD to run all night anyway to keep the tracks clear. So by Cuomo's dopey fiat, they were running empty and not letting anybody on board! brooklynpaper.com...
Avatar 9:32pm gongoleer:

Are you other listeners hearing a reverb in Irene's voice.
Avatar 9:33pm Van in DC:

No, not me gongoleer...I'm on the pop-up player
Avatar 9:35pm Van in DC:

Holy cow this is great already
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Irene Trudel:

Coryell is 71 and playing as great as ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm fleep:

Greetings to Irene, the snowed and the unsnowed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Irene Trudel:

Weird about the reverb effect. Anyone else hearing it? @gongoleer, you might just have to restart the player.
Avatar 9:38pm Van in DC:

I'm guessing Iasos would know very well the difference between an Orchestra and a Symphonic Band :)
Avatar 9:39pm gongoleer:

That makes arithmetic sense. I figured her was in that range. Thanks. Nice choices. Relaxing. Just what I need. The reverb went away.
Avatar 9:40pm Van in DC:

(obviously winds aren't affected, but they know when the strings are or not)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm neilwarren:

I've been hearing the reverb since Chris T
  9:42pm CB:

Hey Irene and WFMU world,
Chris from 'the cellar and point' here. So bummed we couldn't make it today.
John McGlaughlin was probably my first view into experimental instrumental music in early high school, so it's great to see us on the same show!
I heard you mention our lack of upcoming events, so figured I'd mention that this Friday a section of the group will be playing at the MET's 'Jazz and Colors' event 6:00 and 7:30. Our guitarist, Terrence McManus arranged a bunch of standards as per request. Should be great!
Avatar 9:46pm listener mark:

This cat is amazed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Chris! Thanks for checking in. Had a feeling that McLaughlin would figure into your influences. That event sounds really great. Here's a link to the Met Museum listing. www.metmuseum.org...
Avatar 9:47pm Van in DC:

Ha, just listened to an opera from The Met this past weekend. Well, not the whole thing, just a tad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Irene Trudel:

My kitty Nello has probably never been outside except for vet visits. The great outdoors is very enticing to him.
Avatar 9:49pm Van in DC:

Nello is the poster "child" of enticing there.
Avatar 9:49pm gongoleer:

Maybe he could catch a NYC rat or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Ike:

My cat Zero-G is usually scared of the outdoors.

Just one more link about the stupidity of shutting down the subway last night: www.wnyc.org...
Avatar 9:52pm Van in DC:

So, groups, some of the most fantastic lineups, talent-wise. Tangerine Dream for sure. Pink Floyd, on another level. Japan. VERY underrated!! David Sylvian went on to record two incredible albums after Japan - Brilliant Trees and Gone To Earth. That latter, the double LP, just....wow. and FMU has NO IDEA. But, hey, when I get my show I can play it right? ....
Avatar 9:56pm Van in DC:

Sorry, this track right now put my mind in mind of Sylvian & Japan, actually...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...one gets exposed to so much washed-out empty stuff put forward as 'Jazz'; is it really so much to ask to have someone w/ your knowledge & taste present it? Well - thankfully - not here!...
Avatar 10:03pm Van in DC:

I am wrong. Sorry. FMU DOES know who Sylvian is. And Irene has actually played him as well. I'm surprised, but pleased.
  10:06pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi Irene, hello one and all.
Avatar 10:06pm Van in DC:

I did enjoy Victor Juris.

THat's De BlasiCat deciding to shut down the city
Avatar 10:18pm Van in DC:

I haven't heard this before, but really like it.

My favorite TD albums (and they have so many!) are probably Exit and White Eagle, but wow, so many to choose from. They were...and are... true pioneers.
Avatar 10:21pm Van in DC:

RIP: Edgar Froese.
  10:22pm JakeGould:

KP, you know who the worst is? Some guy in political office at the time you are expressing an opinion. That guy is the worst!
  10:23pm Becca:

Hi Irene, I'm riding along with you.
Avatar 10:23pm Van in DC:

Even TD's Sorcerer soundtrack album - wow.
Avatar 🥁 10:23pm KP:

THis is the most intense TD stuff ive ever heard
  10:23pm D in Miami:

Great show, Irene! Thanks for playing this TD!
Avatar 10:24pm Van in DC:

Thanks again Irene
Avatar 10:25pm gongoleer:

TD was one of my earliest electronic impressions. Never tire of them. Sub conscious influence upon my gong work. Thanks for playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Too bad that these artists have passed on. Found out on Liz' show this afternoon that Sleater-Kinney has a new album and tour, so that's some happy news.
Avatar 🥁 10:26pm KP:

I first noticed them with the soundtrack to Thief. but to me they did not maintain that level. That was more like it.
Avatar 10:28pm Van in DC:

yeah Thief was also superb.
Avatar 10:30pm Van in DC:

And you are right - you had to backtrack for TD all the way back to like Phaedra. Going forward, they seemed to just be like a Mark Isham film soundtrack group kind of thing if that makes sense. And that is a shame because Isham did fantastic work also before...with JAPAN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Sean! Welcome to the waking/dreaming world. And welcome Becca! @Van, of course I've played David Sylvian in the past but just not recently. Maybe I'll dig some up for next week.
Avatar 10:32pm Van in DC:

@Irene - I double dog dare ya ;)
Avatar 10:34pm Van in DC:

Hint for Irene - anything from Gone To Earth by David Sylvian...boggle...one of the greatest albums ever. In any genre.

In my very humble opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Jake, KP & D in Miami. Nice to have you here.
Avatar 10:37pm Van in DC:

Thanks again Irene!
Avatar 10:38pm Van in DC:

Okay I think I have to drop out Irene. I will most definitely catch up tomorrow morning. I love the strings already on Redvers so...yeah. I'll be back.

Good night Irene and everyone.

Many thanks for the Tangerine Dream. RIP, again, Edgar.

And next week, if you actually follow up with Sylvian...? Wow. I will be pretty impressed. Not surprised, but really impressed.

Have good night all.
