Hi Therese, and happy birthday! =)

Happy Happy Birthday Therese!

Mucca Pazza! 'Sbeen a while since I heard them - I saw them at the Black Cat in DC - ears ringing for days!
Avatar 12:10am ottovonbqe:

happy birthday on behalf of all commenters hereafter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Therese:

Thank you all!

@Matt: A few days ago a video was released of Mucca Pazza performing on the roof of WBEZ (Chicago): rooftopsessionschicago.com...
Avatar 12:15am KP:

I am in South right now but this song does not speak to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Good to know! It's great to hear them live.
Avatar 12:22am BadGuyZero:

@Matt: I saw them in Chicago a couple of years ago. They did a residency called "Sitting In Chairs" at a brewpub. The night I went they were recording a live album [engineered by Bob Weston!]. A few days later they did an on-air session at WBEZ. A friend of mine was an engineer at the station so I got to sit in the engineering booth while it was happening. Afterwards they went down to Navy Pier and played one song for a video on WBEZ's YouTube page. If you look closely you can see me (I'm wearing a "Good Ship WFMU" t-shirt). www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for the links BGZ! (I'll try to spot you! :)
Bob Weston - that's a vote of confidence.

Made her appearance? This baby "drops" in 1973?...
Is a birthday then a "re-release" party???...

Renewal is a good metaphor in the trips around the sun, I find. Works for trees etc.
  12:49am KP:

When big deal was made of favorites I checked mine. Only had 15 with 12 of those coming for Overlake on the Therese show.
  12:54am JakeGould:

I used to worry about age. But now I worry about the stress. If I am stressed, people say, “Sir…” If I am relaxed, people say, “Young man…” Age, schmage…

Do the Invisible Girls travel around in Wonder Woman's invisible plane?

A Brief History of Crime: “For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster physicist. To me that was better than being president of the United States. To be a gangster physicist was to own the world.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Matt from Springfield:

To own the world .. and describe it YOUR way! Iiiiiiii like it!
  1:21am JakeGould:

British Kevin Smith is pretty harsh. I mean Kevin Smith is just really pathetic. Only “Clerks” was worth anything. Past that? Who cares. Ricky Gervais really made a long term impact on comedy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Matt from Springfield:

Wooo! EFD brings Mucca Pazza on the Wed after next!
Avatar 1:26am AkkiOzzu:

Hi! What's the song playing on the background?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am Matt from Springfield:

"Pling!" by Shuggie Otis, 1974.
Possibly the best talk-over music ever! :)

Bob Brainen's premium "Psychedelic Psellouts" had a CBS News clip of a young Kim Fowley describing the '67 era "scene" on the Sunset Strip -- I didn't realize the significance of that interviewee until later, when I found out more about him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Matt from Springfield:

The person/people in question are the "Poe Toasters".
Avatar 1:51am BadGuyZero:

Avatar 1:51am BadGuyZero:

Do I owe you a soda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am Matt from Springfield:

I think we should all gather with Therese for soda, all around the same time :)
Avatar 1:53am BadGuyZero:

Do you think the Poe Toaster and the Toynbee Tiler are the same person?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am Matt from Springfield:

Well someone, or many people (ALL the Goths!) oughta do it if the original Toaster isn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am Matt from Springfield:

What a monumental day to have off!
MLK, Therese, Poe, Dolly, Sir Gary Coleman, etc etc...
Avatar 1:56am BadGuyZero:

Does he do parenthetical asides and digressions in addition to the tangents?
Avatar 1:56am BadGuyZero:

The Poe Toaster sounds like something that would burn an image of Poe onto slices of bread.

"It's a Goth MIRACLE!!"

"KIDS Incorporated Sings Edgar Allen Poe"
Avatar 1:59am BadGuyZero:

Was it in 2003 around when Lou Reed released his "The Raven" concept album?
  1:59am Mike from MPLS:

Sorry this isn't related to the show exactly...anyone know if there's a way to log into my WFMU profile on an iPad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am Therese:

Mike- I think you can just log in through the website
Avatar 2:01am BadGuyZero:

@Mike: I don't have an iPad or iPhone, but I've always had to use a mobile browser to login to my WFMU account on a Kindle or other mobile device.
Avatar 2:02am BadGuyZero:

Jeepers...I owe you another soda, Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Therese:

Wait a second! Is KIDS Incorporated Sings Edgar Allan Poe REAL?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am Matt from Springfield:

No, no, just my impression of what you were singing a few minutes ago! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Matt from Springfield:

Though now that you mention it, they really SHOULD. Not that song, but 80s kidspop versions of his poems...
  2:05am Mike from MPLS:

I'm using the WFMU app. The only log in that I can find is with last.fm (which I've never used/don't know anything). I was just noticing I've favorited things in the app which aren't reflected in my WFMU profile. They can't be linked?
Avatar 2:05am BadGuyZero:

I wonder if there was a collection of Poe poems/songs inspired by Poe released on Peter Pan Records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Matt from Springfield:

Also on Wikipedia: a massive rise in the value of the Swiss franc. And, a term "Francogeddon" that has nothing to do with James Franco!
Avatar 2:06am BadGuyZero:

@Mike: I don't think there's a way to login through the app. I think the last.fm thing is to scrobble whatever you're listening to on the station via the app.
  2:08am Mike from MPLS:

Bummer...hopefully soon. Playlist/comments don't display properly in my browser so I have to bounce back and forth.
Avatar 2:09am BadGuyZero:

Ooh...there was a 7-inch released in 1959 of James Mason reading "The Tell-Tale Heart." Added to my Discogs wantlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am Therese:

Avatar 2:11am BadGuyZero:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Therese:

That is the story that James Mason was born to read out loud.
  2:16am Kato chad:

Hey Mike!
Avatar 2:17am BadGuyZero:

Here's a recording of him reading it. I don't know if it's the same recording used for the 1959 record.

Avatar 2:22am Mugsy:

Therese, I hope you have a Happy Birthday, keep on rockin'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am Therese:

Thank you!
Avatar 2:23am BadGuyZero:

Have you ever seen Bill Hader's impression of James Mason trying to use an expired gift certificate to buy donuts?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am Therese:

James Mason was Belinda Carlisle's father-in-law.
Avatar 2:26am BadGuyZero:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am Matt from Springfield:

Yes, indeed, Happy MLK Day, folks! =D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Matt from Springfield:

As we enter the early morning hours of the 19th, I raise a glass of cognac (I have it right here with me!) to Edgar Allen Poe, and to civil rights and freedom, and to great country songwriting/singing/good natured gal-ing, and to Therese for playing these great selections!
Avatar 2:58am BadGuyZero:

I hope the rest of your birthday and your week is fantastic, Therese.

See you all back here next time. Have a great week!
  2:59am JakeGould:

Belinda Carlisle is James Mason’s daughter in law? Welp, the old I get the more it seems the fun-time entertainment world is one small pool of connected people!
  3:00am Steve-O:

Anyway, great show as usual, Therese.....happy b-day! =)
  3:00am JakeGould:
