Happy Elvis Bowie day, Diane...bring the HEAT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm common:

diane, cecile, vp...all
Avatar 12:05pm Cheri Pi:

I'm glad to be back in your programming DK!
Avatar 12:07pm Claw!:

Diane, I'm gonna see Voivod on the 31st! I will be sending you some sweet metal vibes from the show.
Avatar 12:08pm Cecile:

Okay, my questions:
which big 4 thrash band do you want to hit with a cinder block?

How many Sergei Eisenstein film festivals did you attend before planning the Crack the Skye tour?

Which do you prefer?
Priest or Maiden?
Floyd or Yes?
Accept or Krokus?
Helloween or Gamma Ray?
Flat Duo Jets or Southern Culture on the Skids?

Which Van Halen is the best one?
Avatar 12:09pm Cecile:

Voivod is the same day as an uncomfortable medical test I cannot postpone anymore. :(
Avatar 12:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Seems like it's been five thousand years since my last Kamikaze fix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Luna:

Oh, happy Thursday! Cheers to a New Year, and hello everyone.
Avatar 12:10pm Claw!:

Hey, Luna. :) Happy New Year!
Avatar 12:10pm Cecile:

Which is worse, screamo, emo or Christian black metal?

What band do you love that your fans be would most appalled about you liking?
Avatar 12:11pm V Priceless:

Been listening to "Real Life" lots past few weeks. Pretty close to a perfect record, IMO, if there is such a thing.

Q: for starters: what is difference between a Mastodon and a Woolly Mammoth?

hey common!
Avatar 12:11pm Cheri Pi:

Oh no Cecile! horrible news about testing day :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Luna:

Q for Brann: How does it feel to be an Octopus? (Hi Claw!)
Avatar 12:11pm Cecile:

I might have to revisit Magazine. I think I'm finally grown up enough to appreciate them.
Avatar 12:12pm Cecile:

Cheri, it is just routine, but the cosmos did not help me out in the appointment department.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Rich in Washington:

@Cecile: So right on. So many great bands that I didn't appreciate when I was younger. Magazine is certainly one of them for me.
Avatar 12:15pm Cecile:

Rich, there were just too many great bands back then, I have to say.
Avatar 12:15pm V Priceless:

@ Rich in Washington: nice avatar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

I have all these tapes which I recorded when I was a teenager of radio shows, really wanting to get all the punk stuff. Now, when I listen to the tapes, I want all the cooler stuff which I then endeavored to edit out.
  12:16pm Dean:

I second the perfect record judgment. When it first appeared, I listened to "Real Life" every day at least once. A fly-by-night band of mine covered "Motorcade" at a party. We were miserable, of course, and the cops were called before we could complete our set, which included a recitation in French from Sartre's "Les Mots." Rawk.
Avatar 12:16pm Cecile:

I miss the art-punk days.
Avatar 12:17pm Cheri Pi:

Cage match: Melville vs Hawthorne?
Avatar 12:17pm Cecile:

Right on, Cheri.
  12:17pm Dean:

I think the band's name was Goddamn Tractor. Memory fades.
Avatar 12:17pm V Priceless:

Avatar 12:18pm Cheri Pi:

I love Magazine but I only listened to the "hits" but hearing other cuts on DK's show has made me appreciate the rest of their output.
Avatar 12:22pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hi everyone! Happy Thursday! I know you've started already...questions for drummer Brann Dailor of Mastodon on at 1pm!! :)
  12:24pm Dean:

Pop Group reminds me of 23 Skidoo. Anybody play them anymore?
Avatar 12:25pm Cheri Pi:

What age did you start beating on objects?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Stevel:

Can't remember when I first heard Magazine, (somewhere in the early mid-80s) but they really stood out at the time. They had airplay on a Pittsburgh alt. station in 85, 86.
  12:26pm this guy:

wow that was new dope body. Thanks for playin it
Avatar 12:26pm Claw!:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Rich in Washington:

I had heard/read about Magazine - but didn't see or hear them until the wonderful URGH! A Music War video compilation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm chris:

Greetings, All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Luna:

Oh, it's pronounced "Brawn". Makes sense, since he's so brawny manlike.
Avatar 12:32pm extinct_species:

Happy 2015 Everyone!!! Yay! Mastodon SO ready!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Luna:

How many bloody tattoos do you have, Brawn?
  12:33pm Dean:

Questions for Brann: Do you or others in the band spend quality time with classical music? If so, which composers, performers, orchestras, ensembles, etc.? The more I listen to WFMU, the more I wonder why there isn't more classical, old and new, woven into the programming.
  12:33pm JC Mike:

Could you ask him about his stint in Today Is The Day and what it's like to work w/ Steve Austin?
Avatar 12:36pm V Priceless:

Avatar 12:36pm Claw!:

Oh goody! Photos! *drool*
Avatar 12:51pm Fashion Tashjian:

Remission was the last Mastodon that really blew me away when it dropped. Call me close-minded but I was super turned off once he started doing clean melodic vocals in songs.
Avatar 12:52pm Cheri Pi:

DAMNIT I missed VOIVOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I now have samosas.
Avatar 12:52pm Cecile:

I lasted until Crack the Skye. That tour was mindblowing.
Avatar 12:55pm Claw!:

  12:55pm Dean:

Awesome. "The one about the whale!"
Avatar 12:55pm Cecile:

Speaking of clean vocals, got Colony of Birchmen?
Avatar 12:57pm Cheri Pi:

me too Cecile, things got to be "too much"
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

If we want mid-period Pink Floyd, we can call up our stepmoms, and they can play it for us over the phone.
Avatar 12:59pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:59pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 12:59pm extinct_species:

gah! I love that record!!! tbt to 2008 when I had better things to do than sitting at an office :P
  12:59pm Dean:

It only just occurred to me that "Meddle" might have been a tribute to Scooby Doo. There is a song about a dog, after all.
Avatar 1:00pm extinct_species:

Hello Brann!!! Whoo Hoo!
Avatar 1:00pm Cecile:

more people liked it than didn't like it because you sold a bunch of them.
Avatar 1:00pm Cecile:

I have no beef with that.
Avatar 1:01pm Claw!:

  1:02pm Dean:

That's the dog.
Avatar 1:02pm Cecile:

which one was the "Brann record"?
Avatar 1:04pm Cecile:

What's your favorite Southern rock band?
Avatar 1:05pm Claw!:

Thought so.
Avatar 1:06pm Cecile:

Evisceration, then Lethargy. That tends to be the progression in real life as well.
  1:07pm Dean:

Shoot, 400 people. Throw in a couple timpani along with the high-hats.
Avatar 1:08pm Cheri Pi:

Followed by Autopsy
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

And then Dissection.
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

and then Carcass.
Avatar 1:09pm Claw!:

and then Consumption
Avatar 1:10pm Cheri Pi:

then After the Burial
Avatar 1:10pm V Priceless:

and then Quincy
Avatar 1:10pm Cheri Pi:

gross Claw!
Avatar 1:10pm Cecile:

And then Immolation
Avatar 1:10pm Claw!:

Hah! V, you're hilarious.
  1:11pm Dean:

Don't forget the side project, Probate.
Avatar 1:11pm Claw!:

Cheri, I prefer "Brutal"
Avatar 1:12pm Cecile:

And Green Carnation (say it fast)
Avatar 1:12pm Cheri Pi:

  1:13pm GGG:

That Rochester scene produced some great bands/projects like Kalibas, Lethargy, Sulaco (all w/ Erik Burke)
Avatar 1:13pm Claw!:

Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

In the footsteps of Jethro Tull!

That would be a good album title.
Avatar 1:14pm V Priceless:

the whole process is very ORGanic, Claw! !
Avatar 1:16pm Claw!:

I see what you did there, V. HAH!
Avatar 1:16pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile I've been thinking Tull for the last 15 minutes, also mixed with the Muppets.

Avatar 1:34pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:35pm Cheri Pi:

NO WAY! Awesomeness Claw!
Avatar 1:35pm Claw!:

Woman, I done *been* a girl.

Avatar 1:42pm Claw!:

He really is funnier than Krusty, Cecile!
Avatar 1:42pm Cecile:

that sounds hilarious, pi. They are quite comic.
  1:42pm Dean:

Speaking of age, consider Henny Youngman:

A guy says, "I'm so old that I forgot how old I am." An old woman says, "I'll tell you how old you are. Take off your clothes and bend over." The man does this. The woman says, "You're seventy four." The man says, "How can you tell?" The woman says, "You told me yesterday."
Avatar 1:42pm extinct_species:

@Cecile: Was "for Pete's sake" part of the name? That'd be weird.
