A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

morning, Trouble - your holiday program is a thing to behold
  9:04am posicornia:

A restful day before the day before.
Avatar 9:04am the Canterbury wood-elf:

What a lovely suprise to see Too-Ticky! My favourite character from the Moomins! Was this image from "Moominland Midwinter", Trouble? That's Tove J's masterpiece, in my opinion.
Avatar 9:05am the Canterbury wood-elf:

"surprise", sorry (you're an English teacher, i can't let that stand).
Avatar 9:09am Trouble:

canterbury: i found this image on line, it's from an advent calendar using an image by Tove Jansen. i do adore moomin midwinter, it is so unusual. i was just looking at it two nights ago, thinking i should re read it. no worries about grammar or punctuation here: i teach art!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am sphere:

happy morning, ms. T & co.
Avatar 9:10am dale:

ethereal yes cover. i heard someone give this type of treatment to rod stewart's 'young hearts' and really liked it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am adrian in mpls:

morning everyone!
Avatar 9:13am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@trouble I just noticed the advent calendar numbers and perforations. Yeah, MM has quite an otherworldly atmosphere (particularly the mysterious episode that resembles a kind of pagan solstice ritual), striking images (Too-ticky fishing beneath the green ice) and a refreshingly gentle pace. Highly recommended to anyone.
Avatar 9:22am Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, Trouble, and all the, I hope, untroubled this day.
Avatar 9:24am Trouble:

i think this is a working link for the charlie brown christmas special: if you NEED to see it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am SeanG:

Happy Holidays Everyone.
  9:27am blee:

Good morning everyone!
I have the Charlie Brown Christmas on vinyl, it's not the soundtrack, but the actual audio from the show. I love it very much, even though they say "stupid" a LOT.
Avatar 9:32am V Priceless:

Hey Trouble and all! C. Brown Xmas album is just the greatest! Thanx for playing an excerpt!

Avatar 10:34am Trouble:

thanks sem chumbo!
Avatar 10:34am βrian:

@Sem: what's on your menu? We're working on a lemon-almond cake with meyer lemon glaze. Very dense and zesty.
Avatar 10:36am doca:

Hey, people, hello, Trouble! Trouble, your show was one of my musical discoveries of the last year, thanks for being amazing.
Avatar 10:37am Sem Chumbo:

@ βrian: I am now just baking bialys, in fact I am just now running to the kitchen to move the bottom baking sheet to the top and vice versa. Back momentarily.
  10:41am testingwithfire:

@Sem and @Brian: yum. More baking reports, please. I made Florentine shortbread this year, so good. http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/chocolate-dipped-florentine-shortbreads
Avatar 10:42am Sem Chumbo:

@ βrian: man, I'd commit some kind of mayhem for a slice of that right now!
Avatar 10:42am Trouble:

hey dale!
brian that lemon cake sounds great! i made an almond orange cake a few weeks ago where you cook the oranges in water for an hour then puree them, it would probably work with lemon, i should try it.
Avatar 10:43am Trouble:

thank you Doca that is so nice to hear!
Avatar 10:43am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Digging this modal jazz vibe, Trouble, but you're keeping us playlist-watchers in suspense...who is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am adrian in mpls:

@ βrian: that cake sounds amazing!!!
Avatar 10:45am Sem Chumbo:

@twf: I have also for the holidays made a challah/babka hybrid: using sweet challah bread dough, I rolled out the three braids, covered them with finely chopped unsweetened chocolate, coinnamon and brown sugar, rolled them up, braided them and baked. Oh, so, goooooooood.
Avatar 10:45am Trouble:

just made this yesterday: outstanding! orangette.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Faye:

awesome show Trouble I love it! great Moomin advent too ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am robyn:

finally checking in and how delighted i am to see the moomins!
Avatar 10:47am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Factoid for Moomin fans: the character Too-ticky (seen here with Moomintroll) was based on author Tove Jannson's lover Tuulikki Pietilä.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am adrian in mpls:

@Sem - that challah/babka hybrid sounds soooo good! i think i'm ready to make a wfmu listener baked goods tour!
  10:48am testingwithfire:

@Sem: omg. I have to up my baking game when it comes to breads. That might be my only new year's resolution!
Avatar 10:51am Sem Chumbo:

@twf: don't do it. My mistakes made the successes so much sweeter. Been baking a long time and just in the past few years is it all coming together.
You never lack for friends when you can bake:-D
Or something to eat.
Avatar 10:51am Sem Chumbo:

@AiM: haHAA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Stevel:

Hanging fire here to see if the flu will prevent a trip to the in-laws/grandparents over Xmas. I'm OK with it either way ( Full disclosure: I'd just as soon stay home, although they are all very nice) but I need to practice my Zen re. letting things fall into place. Oommmmmmmm.
  10:52am Mark:

Whoever the f*** "Binky Griptite" is. That name sounds made up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Stevel:

Also, if I stay home, baking will become an option for me as well. Schedule me in for a stop on the tour, please!
Avatar 10:53am Sem Chumbo:

@twf: misunderstood. I read ."..have to GIVE UP..."
Yes, by all means, up your game, wonderful way to spend time and make friends.
  10:54am Mark:

Nothing more than I enjoy more than flu-infected baked goods.
Avatar 10:54am βrian:

FWIW, I don't have the recipe on hand, but it's from this book:
The key is to cut the sugar in half for the glaze and by a quarter for the cake itself. (Sugar can be a muffling hammer, don't you know.)
Avatar 10:55am doca:

Hey, guys, I'm advertising just because it may interest you, but I'm updating the Brazilian translated lyrics blog and I'm trying to finish Jorge Ben's "A Tábua de Esmeralda" today, before I do a Christmas special tomorrow. If you want to take a look at it, go here brazil70translationproject.wordpress.com
  10:56am Mark:

I thought I was done buying Christmas comps, but this one might be a must-buy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am robyn:

@doca this is my first time seeing this project.. it looks fantastic. i have googled for english translations of jorge ben lyrics in the past and never found anything good. thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am adrian in mpls:

@ βrian: thanks for posting that link. the ex was a baker, so i've hopelessly fallen out of practice with baking. excited to start doing it again. and i'm with you on sugar-cutting in recipes. and also, as a former library person, i'm totally overjoyed that you posted that link via Worldcat! I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that!
Avatar 10:58am doca:

@robyn: Thanks! I have two more to go on this album and I plan to translate Gal Costa's first album later, but it's been so much fun going back to the blog this week
