A nice start to the day. The clanging of the steam entering the radiators is a counterpoint :)

Making chicken soup, just taking bread out of the oven, and feeding the cat. You know, living the country life:-)

Tea time. Is there a Led Zep trend again?

hola!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am

I ran down to the library two flights to get that Led Zep for segue purposes!

TDK60:

I appreciate your journey for such, sounded like an LP version. Seems like I've heard a few L.Z. cuts on WFMU recently.
  7:09am
Mark:

They also just issued a remixed/remastered (personally by Jimmy Page) version of "Houses of the Holy" with alternate takes etc. Whatever your personal feelings are about that band, they're relevant this year because of these deluxe versions of all their early albums. And if you're a fan at all, they're tremendous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am
Scott McDowell:

Could be, we had a secret meeting about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10am
Scott McDowell:

I would like to hear the remasters.
  7:10am
Mark:

Having grown up on Detroit radio (unfortunately), I personally don't care if I ever hear Led Zeppelin again.
  7:12am
Mark:

The first album comes with a bonus disc of a concert from 1969 when they were young and hungry and really great.
Avatar 7:15am
TDK60:

I'm more of a Yardbirds fellow. L.Z. is okay but was way overplayed, as our Detroit commenter says.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17am
Scott McDowell:

They still get the Led out every night at 8pm on local radio.
Avatar 7:18am
TDK60:

Still overplayed? Yow. Shower then work time. Later.
  7:21am
Mark:

Yeah they're absolutely stupid. There was a wonderful underground station (interestingly enough, inspired by WFMU, I just read recently) called WABX, went on the air early '68 but they were done with freeform by '73, and then it was a vast wasteland until the local NPR station started programming music that was pretty cool, but that's all over, too. Fortunately, there's the internet now. There's also a cool little college station where Ken used to work, WCBN, and other than that, I tell my Michigan friends to listen to FMU online. I don't even have a receiver any more, I just plug my laptop into my amplifier when I'm home and stream FMU that way.

Yeah, this is some more of the good stuff. Lovin' the show, Scott. Thanks.

G'TZAG Scott and everybody! Great set this morning, and I don't care what the neighbors say, I was feeling the "No Quarter" this morning, might be my fav Zep track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
Scott McDowell:

sweet! what do the neighbors think??
Avatar 8:20am
PKNY:

@Scott - luckily all the neighbors (and my wife) were asleep, so no complaints.

And as for as 'Zep on classic rock stations' go, "No Quarter" is definitely a deep cut. I grew up in Poughkeepsie, where WPDH has spent the last 40 years making LZ unavoidable, and you rarely heard "NQ" compared to the usual suspects.

Good morning good people
Avatar 8:22am
Cheri Pi:

Damnit I missed Led Zep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am
Scott McDowell:

It's the 6+min runtime that scares away programmers! That's a shorty on this particular radio manifestation though.
Avatar 8:24am
PKNY:

@Scott - but a lot of Zep radio classics are long pieces, so I guess it's the relatively unfamiliarity that might scare them away. I don't think a classic rock programmer ever got fired for having the station play "Whole Lotta Love" or "Stairway" too much.

On another topic, I only know Frank Lowe from that record he did w/ Rashied Ali, so I'm glad to hear more of his work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am
Scott McDowell:

yeah that frank lowe record egads.
