Hiya, Irwin. This a pretty thin book, I think, or maybe a matchbook cover masquerading as a book?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
fred:

Good afternoon Irwin and Sem
Speaking of books, I'm rereading the book of the SubGenius, which happens to mention a Chusid

"Guy Monday" does sound like a pseudonym, IMO...

Hi, fred.
We are getting quite an overview of the Jack Bruce oeuvre on the station since his death. Fine by me, hearing things of which I knew nothing. Thanks, Irwin, for this addition.

Looking forward to a trip to Scarfolk sometime--bet they don't mind BYOB, bring your own books.

@RevRabbit - alternate side is a good place to see what the "cool kids" are listening to these days...though WFMU is for the REALLY cool kids, without quotes.

Alt Side is not bad, but a bit repetitive at times; Altrok Radio is better for that indie rock sort of thing. However, Alt Side has Alisa A. who has one of the most gorgeous voices in radio, and more live performances if you like that kind of thing. Neither is much like WFMU, which is obviously the queen of all streaming and the best thing since sliced megahertz.

@Mike East@3:23: No judging here, I do that too. What the hell else can we tune to in NYC 6-9 a.m. when FM is only option (due to, uh, various reasons)? Phil Schaap on WKCR talking for 20 min. about what Charlie Parker ate for breakfast one morning in 1951? No thanks. :)

Irwin where did you find that Bob Dylan not unlike rolling stone rap by Tony Seymour? That one stuck with me. Great job as always on the Mighty 'FMU.

Creepy menacing bongos. Boy, how great is that? Mancini didn't miss a thing.

I had no idea Mancini was unpopular! They think it's easy to compose orchestral stuff like that?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: "Baby Elephant Walk" mashes up with anything. (I've also said, "I've said it before, and I'll say it again," before, and I'll say it again, too.)

Heya Irwin. A long time ago, I found an original Excello 45 of Harpo's Don't Start Cryin' Now. And I mean "found", like laying in a field or on the sidewalk. In great shape, too.

Re: Baby Elephant Walk's mashability: especially the opening vamp. It loops really well. It was my ringtone for longer than I can rmemeber.

Robert:

OK, now I'm mentally mashing Elephant with "Who Owns New York?" (the Columbia U. fight song).
  4:28pm
Dean:

I'm humming it right now to Mr. Hancock's tune. Nine out of ten tunes my kids play in the car (usually Kidz Bop, but sometimes the Frozen soundtrack) evoke Mancini like a reflex. I'm telling you, it'll work with Stockhausen.

I used to hear a slight accelerando at the end of at least one version of "5:00 World". Was it just my imagination? (Not this time, though.)

It's a cheap trick, but something about a subtle accelerando always thrills me. Maybe neuropsychologic.
