Awwww, Nuts!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am listener james from westwood:

Sniglets! The word that is itself a sniglet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Artie:

Aglet was always my favorite sniglet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Amanda:

Wait a second, "Aglet" is a Sniglet? I thought aglet was a real word!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Artie:

Sniglets are real words!! (aren't they...?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am listener james from westwood:

"Aglet" is real. "Premblememblemation," or the practice of peeking in the mailbox to ensure the mail you've just dropped into it has actually gone down, and to which I succumb every time I mail something, is not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Amanda:

Rich Hall always made sure I knew: a sniglet by definition is not in the dictionary but SHOULD be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Amanda:

I am "aquadextrous," meaning I can use my feet to turn the taps in the bathtub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Artie:

I could swear that Aglet was included in an official book of Sniglets that my roommate owned way back when. But I'm willing to concede the that word is older than Rich Hall himself, and little known - although the item itself is much used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am listener james from westwood:

The Ruben Blades cut on the stream right now is putting me in a Tito Puente "Mr. Burns" mood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Artie:

I shall amend my favorite in favor the salty, orange Cheetle.
Avatar 12:00pm Dan B From Upstate:

I thought an aglet was the little plastic bits at the end of shoe laces. Anyway, Rich Hall is still on a British Show called QI, that more people should watch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 12:06pm Dan B From Upstate:

I wasn't around in time for sniglets, but my mother reminds me quite freqnetly about the hozone (pardon my spelling, it is a fake work, after all), which is the dimension that socks go to when they disappear in the dryer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

Not Necessarily the News was my comedy bridge between Monty Python in early junior high and The Young Ones in high school proper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Amanda:

Yep, Dan B, "hozone" is one I used to try to use in conversation with my parents hoping it would catch on. I was a lonely kid.
Avatar 12:10pm Dan B From Upstate:

Ha ha. That's funny, and I supoose it really does fit the definition of sniglet. It should totally be a word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Amanda:

Hey, welcome to the show everyone!
Avatar 12:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& then - @ *16* RPM

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Amanda:

The thing about these singles is that sometimes they're off-center, sometimes they're cracked, sometimes warped...

Hello Amanda. Any chance of flipping Mickey for 'Hangin' Around' A friend of mine I used to work with,Tony Conway wrote it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Amanda:

How cool, Brian! I'll see if I have time today... thanks for sharing anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm efd:

Tony Conway, from the great Mood 6!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm efd:

wait, is that "Hanging Around" the Mood 6 song?!
Avatar 12:29pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 12:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- they've Restored HardDay'sNight - w/ 5.1 & everything - could be a rush !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Brian in UK:

Sure is efd. I remember when Tony got the demo back from Toni Basil and the difference from his own demo was mind blowing. His band before Mood Six was called Security Risk. No recorded material to my knowledge.
Avatar 12:32pm Kurt Gottschalk:

you can rerecord the show and replace the archive, amanda. talk to liz.
Avatar 12:36pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm efd:

Thanks for the info, Brian in UK! "Hanging Around" and "Just Like A Dream" are two of my faves from back in the day, and I've spun each a few times on WFMU as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Amanda:

Sadly, efd and Brian, I just checked and "Hangin' Around" is not on the other side of this particular Toni Basil record. I assumed it was the original but maybe it was different in the UK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

I have no plans to do this as well as Amanda is doing this, this Friday.

I did, however, almost use that .gif.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Amanda:

Oh whoops I mean "HanginG Around"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm listener james from westwood:

Amanda, I hope you saw me fist-pumping and singing along to that first set. I was busy making slow-cooker chili so I have something to nosh during the Gal Pals tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm efd:

per Discogs apparently the US b-side is a song called "Thief On The Loose." Gotta get that UK import!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Matt F:

Second best record of all time? First best is the McCoys' version of Come On Let's Go.
Avatar 12:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'65 is pretty early ! - & Rick Derringer was what - 12??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Amanda:

Funny how much I have to adjust the volume, louder, to play an 80s record after all these hot-mastered 60s ones.
  12:49pm Nate K:

Love this cover!
Avatar 12:49pm Dominick:

Avatar 12:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah, good job!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Uncle Michael:

My mom lived for a time across a courtyard from one of Rick Derringer's alcoholic ex-wives. She had two daughters. The older one was a really good kid and was basically running the house and raising the younger one. When they all left for Hawaii, my mom moved to that apartment. It was a better apartment.
Avatar 12:52pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

I never knew if either of the kids were Rick's or if they both came later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Matt F:

This set is like the Platonic Ideal of a Nazario Scenario set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Brian in UK:

That's a shame, Mood Six's version was on EMI would you believe.

Toni's came out on Radialchoice here, never heard of it.

There's a handful of fleeting references to this episode in future episodes (ie: the b#s album showing up in the attic, a baby on board sign on a car, etc)
  1:28pm johnk77:

@mikeeast was in a band
Avatar 1:28pm Dominick:

I asked C. Michael Greene, who was chairman of NARAS at the time, if he had seen this episode. He was rather miffed about the mocking of the Grammy Award.

  1:42pm Ima Freyta Hites:

Naw, U2 is the Irish Blink 182, and Green Day is the American U2 cover band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm listener james from westwood:

Never had the instinctual revulsion for Green Day's lead as I have for Bono. Besides, Green Day leads U2 on WFMU live appearances 1-naught.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Brian in UK:

Amanda. Some great POP. Loving it.

@james does Bono have a mirror?
Avatar 1:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Right ! There's no comparison! : Green Day actually generate spirit thru a wall of complete lack of originality...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

I recently accused this song of being all chorus and no verse. I stand by that. I still love it.
  1:46pm Nate K:

Foo Fighters don't seem to have an agenda like Green Day.
  1:46pm Ima Freyta Hites:

All chorus? Hallelujah!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

What's green Day's agenda? making bank?
  1:51pm johnk77:

being american idiots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Amanda:

I feel bad talking about Green Day like this because I do like them (their music) quite a lot. But I think Nate means the whole "American Idiot" thing.

HI Gary! And hi jay c!
