Avatar 9:08pm Dave Mandl:

?: Thanks. I can't promise absolutely great tunes, but I'll true.
Swag For Life Member 9:09pm 12539:

Dave, I'm ready for a mix of great and not-so-great tunes.
Avatar 9:09pm Dave Mandl:

And 12539, P-90, Carmichael, Carl, Phillip, rw, RRN63: Good to see you.
Avatar 9:11pm JakeGould:

Hey there. hey Phillip! Good to see you! Doing okay? Where in Brooklyn are you?
  9:13pm Carmichael:

Great music. I'm chewing gum an snapping my fingers. Not an easy thing.
Avatar 9:13pm Dave Mandl:

BTW, I'll "try," I won't "true."
  9:19pm ?:

well anyway i'm sure glad that summers over dave, aren't you?
Avatar 9:20pm Dave Mandl:

@?: Well, only because it's hard to take good pictures in the summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Cubicle Carl:

I think my woofers just blew.
Avatar 9:21pm JakeGould:

I like that it’s autumnish already.
  9:23pm Carmichael:

I'm in California. Summer will be over in January, then start again in March.
  9:29pm P-90:

Yay! I haven't heard a good new refrigerator record in ages
Avatar 9:29pm Dave Mandl:

For music, autumn is my favorite season, definitely.
Avatar 9:30pm Dave Mandl:

@Carl: Sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm steve:

i was just contact mic-ing my fridge the other day. a surprising variety of sounds to be had.
  9:34pm Carmichael:

Watched a doc on Richard Feynman. They were listening to a leaf blower and comparing it to Tuvan throat singing.
Avatar 9:38pm Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: The Tuvan throat-singing jokes never stop.
  9:38pm ?:

dave are you in the mood to play some disco tonight?
Avatar 9:41pm Dave Mandl:

@?: You never know. It's all spur-of-the-moment usually.
Avatar 9:41pm amEdeo:

Someone needs to release a collection of William Basinski's disco years.
Avatar 9:42pm amEdeo:

Highly underrated disco tunes.
Avatar 9:42pm Dave Mandl:

@amEdeo: That stuff has been totally suppressed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm steve:

i heard most of the loops were swishy hi hats before they disintegrated
Avatar 9:46pm amEdeo:

Totally. It's like he's ashamed of it. Stop disintegrating the truth!!

@steve: Swishy hit-hats and some groovy bass lines. A few hand claps now and then.
  9:48pm Carmichael:

It was actually intriguing, Dave. Though a bit tongue in cheek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm common:

  9:51pm ?:

ohh dave, have you caught efd's dance party archive from two weeks ago yet? if so, what did you think?
  9:52pm P-90:

Oh, "Shiva's Breath", not "Chivas Breath"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm BDR:

I work at a university library and supervise undergraduates. A couple of weeks ago I was talking with a friend and talking about Side Two of Kate Bush's *Hounds of Love*, two ugrads said, "Album sides?" I'm old.
Avatar 9:53pm Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Haha.
  9:53pm rw:

That's not totally true... Often LPs have works that continue on multiple sides. But yes. Sometimes keeping things shorter makes for a more concise end result.
Avatar 9:55pm Dave Mandl:

@rw: Well, you can only play one side at a time.
  9:55pm rw:

My friend Dave Camp had a similar story about LP's... His friend's teen-aged daughter saw him flipping a record and she said, "You can play both sides of those things? That's cool."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

G,G&F : ))
  9:58pm ?:

I guess you hav'nt listened to it yet,huh dave?
Avatar 9:59pm Dave Mandl:

@?: I have! But only about two hours.
  10:00pm Carmichael:

Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief had 3 sides on 1 LP.
Avatar 10:02pm Dave Mandl:

@BDR: That's surprising. Even if they don't listen to vinyl, I'd think they'd at least heard of it. But no.
  10:03pm ?:

dave, I got to tell you evan outdoes himself every year with his dance parties, don't you agree?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm common:

my band recently spoke to an engineer that i have recorded with before about putting out vinyl. he told me i was crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm BDR:

It's a lost art. I remember when people would put down the bong and argue which side to listen to depending on mood. Seems to me musicians lost half their palette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& rotary phones - some have *no idea*...I wonder how alien phone booths might seem...
  10:04pm rw:

What do I want for dinner? Phở?
Avatar 10:06pm TDK60:

Do we have our 2% Rockometers out?
  10:07pm Carmichael:

I have rotary phone on my iPhone.
Avatar 10:08pm Dave Mandl:

@TDK60: Would you call this rock? Wow, you're strict.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm steve:

this group should do battle with Alien Whale
Avatar 10:10pm TDK60:

Dave, I'm not referring to a cut specifically, just kidding! I could go for 6.3% Rocko even.
  10:12pm ?:

well dave i'm sad to say this is my last & final comment, till we meet again! but i'll still be tuned in,, thnx for a great time! happy early labor day weekend all!
  10:13pm Carmichael:

Rotary phone "app"
  10:13pm P-90:

Adjective of the Week winner:
"Bonzo Dog-Bandish"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Cubicle Carl:

Did K-Tel trim the songs down to fit more tracks on the CD?
Avatar 10:20pm TDK60:

Hadn't heard Code BMUS. Unique, not 'generic' punk which was a put-down back then. '81 was a year, eh? Is it possibly Crass influenced?
Avatar 10:30pm TDK60:

Oh, Code BMUS recorded at This Heat's Cold Storage studio.
  10:32pm bloopy:

any one watching the VMAs lol
  10:36pm P-90:

Nice Keefish rhythm guitar riff
Avatar 10:36pm TDK60:

Maybe some Roxy Music fellas along? That intro almost sounds Stones-y.
  10:38pm trsh:

re: this sessions track "Great!"
Hey Dave. Glad to be listenering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yeah - 'I Wanna Be Your Man'-like even...
Avatar 10:39pm TDK60:

The meter is up to 3.1%!!
  10:40pm Carmichael:

This fella knows how to rock.
Avatar 10:41pm Dave Mandl:

John Oswald on sax!
  10:48pm ?:

do you believe this dave, I just came on again to say i'm enjoying the tunes tonight, and hope everybody has a great labor day weekend next week! thnx dave. night for real.
Avatar 10:50pm Dave Mandl:

@?: Thanks! Same to you. Have a great week.
  11:08pm P-90:

I worked summers as a sex therapist myself as a teen
  11:11pm rw:

That Eno record from a few minutes ago.. Is this a new maybe semi official release? It's been available as a bootleg for a while. I bought one a year or so ago but gave it as a wedding gift. Would like to replace it if possible... What's the label?
  11:13pm rw:

Oh, and that Owen Maercks track was pretty great too. I might have to track that one down...
  11:14pm P-90:

rw: uber-cool wedding gift!
Avatar 11:17pm Dave Mandl:

@rw: I think the Eno LP is that same record, re-released (or re-pressed) yet again.
  11:17pm rw:

P-90. Yeah, Thanks. The bride walked down the aisle to "I'll come Running" so I thought it was appropriate. There's an alternate version with different lyrics on that lp.
Avatar 11:37pm JakeGould:

@BDR, some co-workers consider me old fashioned because I download MP3s directly to my iPhone & don’t have Spotify. I might as well have an AM radio to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Ike:

The eternal question: Actual police sirens, or just Pac-Man ghosts?
  11:40pm P-90:

The obligatory Krell-style number
Avatar 11:42pm Dave Mandl:

@rw: That's amazing. Best wedding song ever.
  11:43pm rw:

It was really sweet. I'll tell her you said so.
  11:44pm P-90:

"Each show guaranteed .5% Krell"
  11:45pm marmalade kitty:

Tunnel music hasn't changed in nearly 50 years
  11:48pm rw:

DM: Although she's probably listening to Henry Rollins' show right now and not the World of Echo... Ugh.
  11:52pm rw:

Wow. It's almost the end! Brilliant (and maybe a little overwhelming) as always Mr. Mandl! Thank you!
  11:53pm trsh:

I saw a young woman spinning wool outdoors in the sun, today, as I walked by. This sounds like what the wheel was doing, though she herself was pretty relaxed looking.
  11:54pm rw:

trsh: I can picture it! Sounds kind of incredible!
Avatar 11:55pm Dave Mandl:

@rw: Thanks!
@trsh: Wow, where was this?
  11:57pm trsh:

Just a neighbourhood in Toronto with a lot of assorted weekend street activity. Bar patio on one side. Mix of closed and open shops on the other.
Avatar 11:57pm Dave Mandl:

@trsh: Sounds like tons o' fun. I love Toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Been lurking the last couple hours. Excellent music this evening.
  12:00am P-90:

Many Thanks Dave. Rich brew tonight. Have a great week.
Avatar 12:00am Dave Mandl:

Thanks and have a great week, all!
  12:01am trsh:

Thanks Dave. Maybe see you in Toronto some time. Great listening this eve.
  11:27am tstamp82:

Hey! Thanks for playing Violent Squid, I really loved listening to this show. I looked up Alien Whale, I guessed that comment was addressed to VSquid based on the timeline. I looked them up and they are on Northern Spy Records I saw, funny thing I sent them a record totally got it back unopened from Hentz out there haha. They win.
