Options Brian Turner: Playlist from August 19, 2014 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Javanese Laibach? Freaking awesome.
Avatar 3:31pm jljl:

I have to go with Crazy Backwards Alphabet for best La Grange cover. From around 86 or 87.
Avatar 3:32pm fred:

great mamma sample!
  3:46pm P-90:

Phil Collins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Phil's countin' his money & giving us that look again...
Avatar 3:51pm fred:

@RTD: I wish I could see you open for Joke Lanz some day. I swear I'd pay good money for that pairing. And it would probably turn out to be the best investment I ever made (a low bar, admittedly)
Avatar 3:52pm Bayta:

I need to know more about this Mama laugh track!
  3:54pm P-90:

NICE "get", Jeff
Avatar 4:06pm d¢ pät:

wow. Arndales, huh?
Avatar 4:06pm fred:

@RRN63: It's creepy and for once he was worth the price. That bit spurred more awesomeness that he did on his own. It almost makes up for the rest. Not quite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh - there's certainly a great %age of the human race I would less like to see w/ massive wealth than Phil Collins...
  4:12pm WTF:

Who is This ? Best batch yet.
Avatar 4:15pm fred:

@RRN63: I have no issue with people having massive wealth. I have an issue with people starving with no hope in sight. And making millions from a single isn't an answer. He didn't make that system, he just grew fat on it
Avatar 4:17pm northguineahills:

I like where these beats are heading, possibly where they came from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DCE:

(and where they are right now, ngh!)
Avatar 4:18pm fred:

Did that come from Long Island?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or: go ahead & starve us - but force-feed us maximum rotation mediocre commercial Pop whilst you do so? Now yer just being mean-spirited...
  4:23pm P-90:

Aw, shit. Looks like "number 3" is Don Pardo, 96. RIP
Avatar 4:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@fred: Lanz is magnificent live. Completely takes command of a room. If he ever makes it back to the states, must.
Avatar 4:25pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 4:28pm fred:

@RTD: The last time I saw him he was playing under his own name, spinning records. Awesomeness incarnate. Words must take a vacation, they're not adequate for how good he was. And such a nice guy, for such a total genius
  4:28pm P-90:

Phil Collins drummed, sang, wrote, recorded, and toured his little ass off (brilliantly) for years with Genesis. That's how he "grew fat" in the music business.
  4:30pm ccrides:

He's got blisters on his fingers..!..:)O(:...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I'll go along w/ 'drummed' - admittedly not really knowing even the 'good' Genesis...
Avatar 4:32pm Marcel M:

Whats up Brian and co, get to catch stuff I usually miss at work this week and next!
  4:34pm marc:

1000 years of trouble is that referring to Eric Northman?
  4:37pm BriJet:

In a movin truck with a chris m
Avatar 4:38pm fred:

@P-90: I'll admit I was wrong on this. I was really angry at the people who bought that single and thought they had done enough, and that isn't about him. Thanks, it's all too easy to give in to misplaced anger, I appreciate a correction when needed, and it was.
Avatar 4:39pm Brian Turner:

BriJet tell him to keep his road rage at a minumum. And bring some In N Out back
Avatar 4:39pm Brian Turner:

Whoops I think I'm in California.
  4:50pm P-90:

Maybe when people buy a "charity' single, they're thinking they're doing "something" rather than imagining they've done "enough"?
...and why fault any artist who's earned a place in the business where he can be a part of such a thing for doing "something"?
Avatar 4:52pm Bayta:

Ohh this is nice
Avatar 4:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Clicky-starring the bee-jeezus out of this Bedard.
  4:54pm P-90:

DAMN now I'm craving a "Double-Double" and a large fries, and I'm stuck in New York...
NO: make that TWO (2) Double-Doubles! (Yes, I've been known to do those two at a time)
  5:00pm Fred:

is Martin related to Anthony?
  5:04pm Dean:

In addition to Montreal's Empreintes Digitales (plural) there is France's L'Empreinte Digitale (singular), a label featuring a catalog of early and "world" musics.
Avatar 5:09pm fred:

@P-90: I agree again that I was wrong in questioning Phil Collins' part in this. As for other people... I don't know. I wish I could, but can't argue with you, because I live in France and the situation here is so toxic I can't trust myself to be sane about this topic. Like I was in a checkout line at a low-end chain store today and a disabled guy (with a government issued card) cut in line. A couple of elderly white women started screaming about it, saying that in their days when a nigger dared say no to a while lady, he'd have been beaten up. I was the buffer, being white, and I let him take my place. But it looks dire, and they did tell me I betrayed my race and they would remember it
Avatar 5:14pm fred:

@P-90: I'm emphatically not saying you endorse this. But I'm not sane about it, and that's why
  5:14pm ZAX:

La Morte
's cover of Come Together would have been the ultimate follow up to this Dillard & Clarrk
Avatar 5:15pm Brian Turner:

that is pretty damn good.
  5:15pm ZAX:

Sorry: La Mort. out on Heart and Crossbone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- !: easy here in the U.S. to not think about the swing to the Right that Europe is having...
- Indeed kewl to hear a hero of mine like GeneClark do a hero like Lennon...
Avatar 5:25pm fred:

@Zax: When are you coming back to Paris? I miss you man!!!
  5:27pm ZAX:

Fred!!! same here.
Nov. 9, Primate Arena at st. Marie, is the answer
  5:28pm ZAX:

bootlegs remind me a bit of At War
Avatar 5:32pm Marcel M:

I hear The Clean does weddings
Avatar 5:34pm fred:

Hofesh will be here in December, is there a way you could be there a little bit longer and I could arrange a reunion?
Avatar 5:40pm KP:

Nice work with that Gene Clark. Did not know of this release.
  5:47pm P-90:

Yes, a lot of us in the US have been watching with UTTER dismay what Revolution Rabbit calls "the swing to the right" in Europe, particularly in the last 3-5 years. It seems so much like the wrong direction taken at the worst possible time. And sorry to say, these "swings" always feel like the stage being set for a trend towards more Fascism, rather than less...
@ fred: May I ask: was this confrontation you saw today in Paris, or someplace smaller, more provincial?
Avatar 5:55pm northguineahills:

Man, Metabolismus rules, thanks Brian!
Avatar 5:56pm fred:

@P-90: Suburbs of Paris. But the change since the far-right win in the last elections has been major, in-your-face-racism like was hidden before. I'm white with blue eyes, but I'm scared
  6:01pm P-90:

Thanks, DJ Brian T.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Thx BT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Ike:
