Tony Coulter:

Greetings, people of the present. Once again, I am not really here -- today's show is a REBROADCAST. Pull up a chair and bask in the sounds of yesteryear -- er, yestermonth. See here for a playlist for what's being played today: www.wfmu.org...

Well, I am as here as I can be, considering that I am listening with one side of my brain while I write cover letters and edit my resume with the other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
Doug Schulkind:

Gary, that should leave you plenty of brain left over to do your sudoku and word searches!

Hey hey, all! As I recall, this was a good 'un.

This IS a good one. Glad to hear it being repeated.

Tony is rebroadcasting this Tape Hiss by request! When he polled listeners, this was the show people wanted to hear the most!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
fred:

Good luck Gary. And do make sure your contact info is correct. I know it's obvious, but I trust I'm not the only one to have made a stupid mistake there. So check it again

Jesus preachers have really been a resource for samplers since the art of sound collage became widely accessible, haven't they?

hey its tapey time

Doug Schulkind:

Rebroadcasts of Tape Hiss shows are extra special because these shows aren't archived. Four cheers to Tony for thinking to fill his vacation time with old Hisses (he did this last week, too).

Thanks steve, I wish it was, I'd sell it and retire!

YOu put GOd In A Linoleum Roll on that comp! How did I miss that?

What Steve said, SeƱor Fabuloso

Thanks Gary! Yes, Rich you hepped me to that CutUpSound collection. You helped produce it, didn't you? Was happy to spread the word of that fine album.

A very Residents feeling to this one

listener james from westwood:

Oh, man, lotsa good stuff there; thanks, MrFab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Rich in Washington:

I assembled it for Jim Larrance, who's been making cutups since the 70s. I believe the GIALR track was a razor tape and multitrack piece but Jim can't remember what year he did it. He's still making stuff under the CutUpSound monicker.

This just in ... new Global Groovers website: www.globalgroovers.com

Rich in Washington:

I also dug the Gene Scott stuff. I remember happening across Scott on our gigantic satellite dish when I was a teenager. We'd traverse over to whatever obscure satellite that had the Playboy channel when our folks would go to bed and there'd be Gene Scott. Really peculiar stuff. I remember taping some of his stuff on pyramids and UFOs but sadly no longer have them.
  1:09pm
Dean:

Dr. Gene Scott was one of a kind. I used to have lunch at the porch of his church in downtown L.A. back in the '80s. Apparently, his daughter has taken over the business. Yep, she has a white board, a very serious lecture style.

Have just added the new Global Grooves link, gracias Gary.

No problemo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Rich in Washington:

@Dean: His daughter or ex-pornstar widow Melissa. Now she owns the iconic Jesus Saves sign and the world's oldest existing bible collection.
My mother-in-law was in his cult when they lived in LA and she's still got a gigantic box of Doc Scott lecture tapes that I'm dyin' to get my hands on.
  1:29pm
Dean:

Well, now, he was an interesting dude, wasn't he? Melissa was his wife? And a former porn star? Oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Rich in Washington:

SO they say. I seem to recall that - while Scott wasn't a hellfire and damnation preacher - his flock didn't take to him wedding a so-called porn star so well.
  1:38pm
Dean:

There's a joke in there somewhere.
  1:39pm
MrFab:

Ken should use the Gene Scott technique during the marathon: "I don't want anything under a hundred dollars! No gifts tonight, I want sacrifice!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
Rich in Washington:

Or, 'I want the phones to light up with people THAT CARE!'. I've actually used that during pledge pitches. Surprising how many folks out there know who Gene Scott was.

Off to find food. I actually missed this broadcast the first time around. Groovy, thanks Tony!

@james: Well said. I usually can't listen to this show at work, I'm happy to have seized this second chance
Avatar 2:55pm
steve:

ah yes, love the invetiable pots-and-pans-percussion segment of most tape hisses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm
fred:

@steve: agreed. I dread the time when there's a pots-and-pans app out there. Though it's probably already there

Thanks in absentia, Tony, and in the flesh, Doug!
