Listening intently, cannot type. Skinning peppers, toasting nuts. Thank you for being here!
Avatar 9:13pm Danne D:

Hi EFD :)
Hi Everyone :)
Hi Holly :) Be careful with the skinning!

53rd & 3rd thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Alex of Chicago:

Hi everyone. Glad to be listening. That's all I got.
  9:21pm Lonely Planet Boy:

Thx for tweeting Wurster's article about Tommy's drumming, efd. I woulda missed it otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...guess now's (sadly) a good time to go back & relisten to the Lisa Jane Persky interview w/ the Ramones from '76 back in Nov. here:
...no way I got it all on 1st pass - I was kinda stunned!...
  9:24pm JakeGould:

Here is the article in question: www.spin.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Amanda:

"Let's listen to Evan, he's probably gonna be playing Ramones." -me, seconds ago
  9:27pm Holly:

I totally would have been Tommy's girlfriend if he didn't (& still does) have one :-(
Avatar 9:27pm Lonious Monk:

Tommy actually wrote this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Redundancy Radio had no less than three great Ramones-related interviews this A.M. prob. no one was awake to hear...
Avatar 9:31pm Danne D:

@RR but everyone awake to hear the archives later - thanks for the heads up :)
  9:32pm Lonely Planet Boy:

What's weird is that I was listening to I Hate Music Tues. on way home, thinking "Wurster's tight". Saw efd's tweet this a.m.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Pat also played tunes by 'Uncle Monk', Tommy's bluegrass project - which I enjoyed anyhow !...
Avatar 9:40pm Danne D:

waiting for an April Fool's Day where Mac does a Fill-in and starts with the 1870s :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Stevel:

So, the strange thing is, I'm actually in NYC listening to efd on the RADIO! How. Cool. Is. That?

Nothing wrong with the internet, but hey.
Avatar 9:48pm Danne D:

Cool Stevel :) What brings you to town? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm efd:

Hi everyone, thanks for listening, commenting and/or lurking tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm efd:

Stevel that's just crazy talk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Stevel:

Wild in the city. That's me.

Pretty cray cray in the old Time Square. I feel a strange craving for M&Ms and mass produced fashion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Stevel:

Danne D: League of Historic American Theatres conference. I'm development director at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Alex of Chicago:

Hah. I'm editing some live footage of The Man right now.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm efd:

hi there UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Uncle Michael:

aww, I missed Nervus Rex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Stevel:

Occasional static actually enhances the experience, although Uncle Michael get to say Fuck on the stream.

Its a trade off.
  10:06pm Holly:

I am SICK of peeling peppers! Also love this. song but can't favorite via Android as crashes WFMU app - this has been problem for weeks, anyone else encounter?
Avatar 10:07pm EzSezz:

Just came down from the roof to the sounds of Flowers After Dark. For a moment I thought it was a cover of Mekons' Where Were You.
  10:09pm Robert:

What are you making that would be bad with pepper skins?
  10:10pm marmalade kitty:

In the uk we say cretin as it sounds.. Joey say's cr'eatin :)
Avatar 10:11pm Chris M.:

  10:11pm marmalade kitty:

is that obvious?
  10:11pm Holly:

Am also grouchy as have 2 mugs, one filled with red wine, the other filled with fresh-squeezed lemon juice, guess which I just swigged from :-(
  10:14pm marmalade kitty:

what's cookin, Holly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Uncle Michael:

I hardly ever say "fuck" on the stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm efd:

oof, sorry to hear that Holly!

marmalade kitty, I'm assuming you meant "say it as it looks" in your first comment - so more like a rhyme with "get in," right?
  10:16pm Holly:

@Robert - muhhumara (roasted red pepper, walnut, pomegranate molasses dip) - very delicious, making for a friend w. cancer.
  10:16pm marmalade kitty:

cret in get in.. yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- my understanding is etymology of 'cretin' is actually a contraction of 'Christian' - as an insult (sounds French-ish)...
Swag For Life Member 10:19pm 12539:

@MK, same way you say Eton, as it sounds, right? :)
  10:19pm Robert:

I take it the peppers are skinned after the roasting, because easier. What happens if the skins are left on? Too hard to mix? How about chopping before roasting, leaving skins on throughout? Or is your friend's condition such that the skins would be bad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- more accurately :
...our Ramones trivia...we all say it long 'e' in the U.S.
  10:25pm marmalade kitty:

12539; Eton like Joeys cretin. How else would you say Eton? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm coelacanth:

olá efd and everyone.
...yes,i say cretin as it sounds too. like "eat in"! ...if it was spelled "crettin",i'd pronounce it "crettin"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Uncle Michael:

My ears are burning! Thanks, Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like you'd pronounce Sir Elton, naturally : ) ...
  10:28pm marmalade kitty:

right, ok coelacanth! :)
Avatar 10:28pm northguineahills:

Douses UM w/ water.....
  10:28pm Holly:

@Robert - correct skins removed after roasting. Sadly absolutely imperative for proper taste and texture. Tough crinkly burned black skin not delicious in this recipe :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Uncle Michael:

glub glub
  10:29pm Jon Lester:

Oh Yeah!
Avatar 10:31pm Loretta:

Hi everyone!! been here lurkin' ~ enjoying the show. thanks Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Alex of Chicago:

Night Rider.
Avatar 10:38pm northguineahills:

Suede? Metal Mickey, holy crap, I have this single somewhere, and haven't listened to it in years.
  10:38pm marmalade kitty:

this was a big indie hit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm efd:

I was a little surprised to see I'd played "Metal Mickey" a couple of times previously! Definitely a fave when it came out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the plug, Evan. I'm going to listen to the rest of the show in the dark. Night all.
Avatar 10:46pm Danne D:

@Stevel that's cool as hell - when you head back out - you'd have many an FMU friend buy you a coffee if we knew you were in town sooner.

@Holly 8(

@RR63 - pretty sure Cretin comes from the fact that the Cretans lost (see story of Minotaur)
  10:46pm marmalade kitty:

coelacanth; sounds like the french accent in the us pronunciation of cretin
does the "google translate" english audio speech have an english or american accent in the states?
  10:48pm marmalade kitty:

sorry, ..don't mean to bang on!
Avatar 10:58pm northguineahills:

Saw a pic of Bob Mould the other day, wow, we're all advancing in age!
Avatar 11:01pm Danne D:

Heading off the boards - will listen in the car :)

Heading to meet a friend for coffee for his birthday.

Have a good night all :)
Thanks Evan :)

Take care and hang in there Holly! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm coelacanth:

m.kitty -i'll check!
...so hey i was just pointing out that there are always exceptions to the "rules" in english. (though, particularly in american english.)
. . . but here,the general rule is that when there's a double consonant after a vowel,the vowel is "short";when it's a single consonant,the vowel is "long".
...if we were having this conversation in a pub and said what i said i would've nudged you to let you know i'm just playing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm coelacanth:

g'night Danne D.
  11:07pm Eddy in Australia:

Hi Evan. Loving the show. Feel free to keep playing that same Parquet Courts song every week for the foreseeable future.

@Holly: Right you are, no charred skin allowed in muhamarra! Sorry to hear about your friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(US) IPA(key): /ˈkɹiːtn̩/
Homophones: Cretan (US only)
...Different here & there. : )
  11:10pm Holly:

Created 3rd mug filled w juice from roasted red peppers, guess what I just swigged that is NOT red wine... So tired. So not tipsy. Thank you efd for this show.
Avatar 11:13pm Droll:

. o O ( Throat thing, you mean "Performance Anxiety"? )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...throat needs a good swig of red pepper juice...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm coelacanth:

Holly -positive,healing thoughts out to you and to your friend.

-marmalade kitty, wherever i checked via google pronounced it "cree-tin". The oxford dictionary was especially amusing! (creepy sounding!) ...'doesn't mean it's correct, historically. i know that!
Avatar 11:16pm northguineahills:

dagnabbit, already got Arto Lindsey tix yesterday.....!
  11:21pm marmalade kitty:

@C; haha I spent a whie listening to cretin synonyms in various languages.. french especially amusing!!
Bedtime! have a good night everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm coelacanth:

R.Rabbit Nov -just checked that link. interesting. Thanks!
  11:22pm Eddy in Australia:

Man, if this discussion about 'cretin' goes on any longer, I'm gonna have to weigh in with the Australian pronunciation - and you don't want that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm coelacanth:

m kitty goodnight. Do not dream about cretins!
  11:25pm marmalade kitty:

There's no stoppin' the cretins from hoppin'
You gotta keep it beatin'
For all the hoppin' cretins

Cretin! Cretin!

I'm gonna go for a whirl with my cretin girl
My feet won't stop
Doin' the Cretin Hop

Cretin! Cretin!

Cretins wanna hop some more
All good cretins go to heaven

[repeat all]
  11:26pm eric o:

Thanks for the alicja pop track! Local heroes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm coelacanth:

aw, i used to go out with an aussie with a songbird of a voice, who was very into ramones; but i do not recall her ever saying "cretin hop"! (& i probably would,if she had ever said it!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm coelacanth:

  11:29pm Robert:

I worked briefly at a nursing home with an actual medical cretin who proclaimed, "I'm a cretin." Poor thing. I'm supposing the medical meaning of cretinism to have been a relatively late development.
  11:32pm Robert:

I tried to get her to say the names of 2-digit numbers, but it was beyond her. She could only say it was a [name of 1-digit numeral in tens place] "and" a [name of 1-digit numeral in ones place].
Swag For Life Member 11:33pm 12539:

@Robert: Actually, the medical definition appears to be at the origin of the term as we know it.
  11:34pm marmalade kitty:

  11:34pm Robert:

Fortunately I can't remember in Pediatrics ever seeing a hypothyroid case whose prognosis was not of full correctability, but so much of the effect occurs in utero that it can't always be corrected after birth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm coelacanth:

(there's no stoppin'...)
  11:35pm Robert:

So, 12359, not like "Mongoloid"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm coelacanth:

Robert -was she happy?
  11:37pm daniel:

digging Beth Israel!!
  11:38pm Robert:

Well, she was middle aged, in a nursing home, and got upset at times. Hard for me to judge. She seemed about normal in satisfaction for her MENTAL age.
  11:38pm Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer:

  11:40pm Robert:

What was fascinating was a young child I saw in Peds who had cerebral palsy, including euphoria. She looked so pathetic, yet she was ecstatic.
Swag For Life Member 11:40pm 12539:

@Robert, no, not like "mongoloid" - see www.etymonline.com... and en.wikipedia.org...
It seems to have entered the language as a medical term.
  11:43pm Robert:

Thanks, 12359. That's what I used to think, but later doubted. The term does seem to be recent, though. I just imagined an older and less specific usage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm coelacanth:

-just curious,Robert. I've been acquainted with at least 1 person who was "severely retarded" (the accepted term at the time) who was usually quite happy, except if she was being challenged very hard.
  11:49pm Robert:

Is not "retarded" (preceded by "mentally" or other applicable adverb, e.g. physically, developmentally, etc.) not still accepted when used precisely? It applies in any case normal development is held back.

But I know what you mean about being challenged very hard. This lady got upset at my attempts to get her to pronounce 2-dig. nos. I was activity dir. briefly at the nursing home, and couldn't figure out much else to do for/with her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Alex of Chicago:

Thanks for the shoutout, Evan. Great show as always.
  11:51pm Robert:

The attempt to back-figure another etymology based on something like geography (Crete) makes sense given the use of some of Boeotian as an insult.
  11:55pm marmalade kitty:

People will go to any length, stop at nothing, to insult one another! sheesh!
lurklurk..definite goodnight x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm coelacanth:

yeah Robert i know it's still a technically correct term,& shouldn't offend when it's not meant to; but some folks do get upset by the term, because they don't know that it's actually correct.
Swag For Life Member 11:56pm 12539:

Thanks, Mr Funk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm coelacanth:

oh,you know you can't leave,kitty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm coelacanth:

actually i'm leaving! i guess you can leave as well, then.
Thank you Evan Funk Davies!
