Live performance by Michaela Anne & friends
Country music convert Michaela Anne turned away from her dissatisfying time as a jazz student after meeting bluegrass musician Michael Daves. She's been making people take notice at festivals like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Merlefest, and SXSW with her sweet soprano and plain-spoken songs. "Ease My Mind" is her resulting album, full of the turbulence of being a young woman in making her own path in America. Michaela Anne and her band played live on Irene's show.

Hi, Irene. This is a marvelous gift.
  12:06pm Mark:

How wonderful to start your show with that old Haden Family track--Rickie Lee Jones, too!

  12:22pm don d:

I believe Haden Triplets have a Bell House show soon. Beautiful live vocals.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great tribute to Charlie Haden, Irene
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

After Irene is off the air, I highly recommend watching this amazing Charlie Haden documentary on Vimeo: vimeo.com...
  12:37pm Listening Out There:

few years back, I got to see a version of the Liberation Music Orchestra when it came through here in Seattle. Great to hear, see. Haden had an *amazing* life.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Sean in Bristol UK:

"The Fields of Athenry', what a beautiful track.
Avatar 🥁 12:52pm KP:

Agreed, Sean. and this is a lovely version.
Avatar 12:53pm Van in DC:

Hi Irene
Avatar 🥁 12:55pm KP:

I dont know if it was mentioned but if it seems odd the Hadens have taken such a country track it's because their roots are Iowa. It was there they started as sort of a Midwest Carter Family.
Avatar 🥁 12:56pm KP:

I was lucky enough to see the triplets fairly recent free show at Lincoln Center. Adorable
  12:59pm tim zechiel:

Irene, thank you for honoring Charlie like this. And thanks for the Matt Sowell tune, too!
Avatar 1:01pm d¢ pät:

I'll say, this Sowell tune is going down well...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Sean in Bristol UK:

What a splendid set this is
  1:09pm tim zechiel:

Irene, I don't know if you know this, but Matt Sowell just moved to Minneapolis. So nice you were able to have him on your show.

New school wut wuuuuuuuuut
  1:21pm KP:

Michaela Anne eases my mind
  1:22pm Shrunken Planet:

Clearly Michaela could sing in a number of genres, if she so chose, but as a country singer, I think she's fantastic! So glad you're doing a live set on Irene's show. I met her at Pete's Candy Store in late 2012. Hello again Michaela!
Avatar 1:28pm Van in DC:

Speaking of country-ish lady singers, the wonderful Laura Cantrell is here in DC tomorrow at the 9:30 club. Opening for Camera Obscura. I'm so there
  1:33pm henrik (in Stockholm, Sweden):

Beautiful tunes from Michela! Lovely to hear and listening to it in my studio is excellent, in harmony with the skies clearing up from a whole day of gloomy weather.

Thank you all for a great show!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Really digging Michaela
Avatar 1:41pm Van in DC:

Sounds good to me! I don't get to MD enough :)

Avatar 1:46pm Van in DC:

Actually I see the DC date now, in October. Last tour stop, looks like. I'll probably wait until that show. Frederick is kind of a hike for me during a work week...
Swag For Life Member 1:50pm 12539:

Thanks, Michaela (& Irene, of course).
Avatar 1:52pm Van in DC:

Yes, thanks for the live set! As Irene mentioned, you have new fans today. Loved what I heard. Thanks for having them in, Irene.
  1:54pm henrik (in Stockholm, Sweden):

Amazing song to end the set with!
Wish I was somewhere along the tour plan or any way over in the states atm :)

Hi Irene, I forget to mention that I'll be playing at the Great South Bay Music festival next Saturday,7/19, at 4:15pm in the "clamshell" in Patchogue Ny......probably the first and only American Primitive/blues soloist to play the festival. Perhaps you might mention it on air......thanks again, Don
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm MD:

Irene...have you checked out Stockton's Wing Yet???
Avatar 2:38pm Van in DC:

And the wonderful strings continue...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Irene Trudel:

I have not @MD. I will check them out later. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh snap. I don't know why I was thinking Laura Cantrell & Camera Obscura tonight (Tuesday) in DC. Guess I'm just anxious :)

They are here on FRIDAY, this Friday, the 18th. Just to set the record straight.
