Evening DJ Dave. Thanks for giving Daniel and the Ladies a chance to "Finnish' up.
  9:11pm Carmichael:

Go, dolphin! Go, Dave Mandl. (Actually, it's a race track.)

  9:29pm P-90:

@ DJ Dave I'm totally with you re: pieces that just sound like "opening tracks"
Avatar 9:34pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, fleep.
Avatar 9:36pm Droll:

Sonorhc is Chronos spelled backwards. And this band has a Trifecta of sorts -- it's three albums three decades apart: K'An in 1992, Outrelande in 1982, and Purf in 1972.

It was nice to hear the end is "two and a half hours away". That must make this the "Final Stretch". And remember the call letters do NOT include XHD. Remember: do not say XHD! Not XHD.
Avatar 9:39pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Ah, I should have realized that about Sonorhc. Thanks!
Swag For Life Member 9:50pm 12539:

I wonder what he has against Yang.
  9:52pm JakeGould:

Hello there!
Avatar 9:53pm Dave Mandl:

Howdy, Jake.

Hi Dave, quality picks
Avatar 10:02pm Dave Mandl:

Hey, T_Jay. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Jeff In Puna Hawaii:

Yes Sir! Aloha!
Avatar 10:03pm T_Jay Pauli:

& your sonor hc reading was not at all a shot in the dark, fits the music as well
Avatar 10:06pm Dave Mandl:

Thanks, T-Jay. And aloha, Jeff. Are you really in Hawaii?
Avatar 10:07pm T_Jay Pauli:

they have a related band according to rateyourmusic called "Arcane V" - but its chronos written backwards good call from Droll
Avatar 10:08pm Dave Mandl:

Reminds me of the Lothar and the Hand People song "Sdrawkcab." Took me a while to figure that out.
Avatar 10:09pm T_Jay Pauli:

nice, don't know it
Avatar 10:10pm Droll:

I never get that stuff -- I looked it up, of course. No offense meant by my LMGTFY.
Avatar 10:13pm T_Jay Pauli:

love music geek ... trying find .. oh ok .. i gave up and googled it
Avatar 10:14pm Dave Mandl:

"Sdrawkcab" = "Backwards" spelled backwards.
Avatar 10:16pm T_Jay Pauli:

Aloha Jeff, do pirates still live in Hawaii?
Avatar 10:19pm Droll:

10:19pm Eric the Half a Bee:

God almighty, always nice to hear the Shulman boys in Gentle Giant.
Avatar 10:20pm T_Jay Pauli:

only their language, full of H's between vowels
  10:20pm P-90:

I was wondering when GG would come into the picture, we've been heading in that direction for a while. Prog enough for you, @Droll?
Avatar 10:22pm T_Jay Pauli:

wow the flag of hawaii is a mess, it looks like the uk is occupying serbia or little russia
Avatar 10:23pm Droll:

P-90, I have a soft spot for hocketing in my rock.
Avatar 10:24pm T_Jay Pauli:

home of the ukulele ..right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Andrew Waterloo:

Haven't heard Brokeback in awhile.
  10:26pm matt:

wow beautiful track
  10:27pm Carmichael:

Oops, just came back. Gentle Giant, Leo Kottke, beautiful. Thank God i missed Joni Mitchell.
  10:30pm P-90:

Ah yes, 1974, the EARLY years of the Renaissance Faire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm fleep:

The co-founder of the Ren Faire just passed away www.latimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm pacific standard simon:

"Early years", hell. I wuz there in '69.
Avatar 10:36pm Droll:

"before it grew into a national corset-and-codpiece phenomenon". Pshaw! You call that a codpiece phenomena?! I have one word: Cameo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm pacific standard simon:

Damn, missed the first half again. Cooking.

Before Ian Anderson made the codpiece mainstream. Hah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm pacific standard simon:

Before the Folsom Street Fair, even.
Avatar 10:41pm Droll:

Ahhh, back when rockers wore a codpiece and stood on one leg while playing flute... We didn't realize how renaissance we were...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Andrew Waterloo:

Ian Anderson playing the flute in a yoga position is as iconic as the T. Rex guy in front of the amp, and the Clash guy smashing his bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Andrew Waterloo:

Then again, the Ian Anderson image may be proof that a man playing flute is a like a dog getting it's ear scratched.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm pacific standard simon:

By the way, The Firesign Theatre used to do their thing (the fake Shakespeare, mainly) at the L.A. Faire, in the late '60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm pacific standard simon:

This is great fake Quicksilver!
  10:50pm Carmichael:

I cannot play the flute. I probably can't stand on 1 leg. Let me look in the closet, but i'm sure I don't have a codpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Andrew Waterloo:

I do own tights, and I can stand on one leg within limits... I just need someone scratch me ear.
  10:55pm i k e:

My computer's motherboard got damaged in my move to Sunset Park. Any Brooklynites actually buy new computers in the flesh these days? I just saw some good deals in Bklyn Chinatown (8th Ave.) but some of that stuff could be of, errr, suspicious provenance....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm pacific standard simon:

I went to the Ren Faire in tights and patchwork doublet, and have played flute, but not at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm pacific standard simon:

Now put yer tongue in me ear, missy.
Swag For Life Member 11:04pm 12539:

I can't decide how the 2% rule applies here. It's a rock song but it doesn't feel like a rock song.
Avatar 11:05pm Droll:

Twice as Much... but of what?
  11:07pm Carmichael:

@Ike: i bought a shitty Compaq desktop for about 300 bucks, and used my old drive as an external backup. I'm old and don't fully trust cloud-based solutions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm pacific standard simon:

I've got tickets for Nick Cave on July 2nd, bought like MONTHS ago. Joy Division just reminded me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm pacific standard simon:

It's true, you can get an empty portable hard drive case cheap, stick your old hard drive in it, and plug it in to almost anything with a USB socket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Andrew Waterloo:

@PSS I have tickets for Nick Cave on July 31st
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Andrew Waterloo:

@PSS yes that is true. As long as you have the right type of case for the hard drive you're using. If it has the big 40pin connector it's IDE
  11:23pm grassmother:

Yeah man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm pacific standard simon:

Details, yes.

I'm impressed by the legs Nick Cave's career has developed. Who woulda thunk it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Andrew Waterloo:

Nice Cave should be a really good show.
  11:31pm i k e:

@Carm, I hear you on the cloud. Who would store anything in a cloud? It's not very solid. Fortunately my hard drive is fine. Hopefully a friend will recommend a new PCU & mobo etc., I'll get them online, and then maybe I'll have someone assemble it for me. No Compaq, no Dell -- nothing preloaded w/garbage & nonsense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm pacific standard simon:

@i k e - Heh, you just named my last two computers. Both with some preloaded shite, easily uninstalled.
  11:38pm P-90:

@fleep: thanks for the link, I knew Phyllis Patterson, once upon a time, I know all the spicy details not mentioned in the obit. I have many friends who worked with her for years. She did an amazing thing, she started with a little one-day fair held on a village green and built it into a multi-million dollar business. She also learned fast how rich you can get running a non-profit organization. At one point she had a small town's worth of people on her payroll, it was like a big family. Everybody running a Ren Fair anywhere, now and forever, is following the template she created.
Avatar 11:38pm Droll:

Agreed: A cloud is soft and fluffy, not solid like a hard drive. That's why I stopped using software years ago. I only use firmware or hardware directly. My computer has no social diseases!
  11:41pm P-90:

pss: True! Nick Cave's longevity (as a performer) is something no one would have predicted when he appeared. It just didn't seem like that kind of thing.
  11:44pm i k e:

@PSS, I'm on a borrowed old Dell right now. 256 MB of RAM! Slower than a sloth slathered in molasses in January. Still better than my local Internet cafes, where the towers are in cages, and you can't change Firefox from Chinese to English, or plug anything into the USB ports.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm pacific standard simon:

This started like a Mary Wing DJ bed! :D

@i k e - 256 MB! Hope it's not trying to run an operating system more recent than XP!
Avatar 11:48pm earrie:

IKE - for 25 bucks you could have twice that in a credit card sized computer with the raspberry pi. Good for a backup/portable system.
  11:49pm P-90:

@ Ike: may I ask where you are that "you can't change firefox from Chinese to English"(!) at your internet cafe?
Avatar 11:49pm Droll:

256MB of RAM?! Why, in my day all we had was a shoebox full of punch cards, and let me tell you, if you had small feet you learned to write efficient code real fast!
Avatar 11:52pm earrie:

When will we see rollup monitors finally? This staggered planned obsolescence crap is what's really getting old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm pacific standard simon:

"Shoebox full of punch cards"! Bet you had proper PUNCHES, though. Why, in my day, we had to punch the little beggars with willow twigs, and we were glad to have 'em!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm fleep:

@Droll Luxury! We used an abacus made out of rocks, uphill, in the snow, both ways.
  11:54pm P-90:

@Droll: I remember the Stone Age; Basic was really basic, and there was no task you could write a Fortran program for that couldn't be done easier some other way...except maybe "drawing" cute pictures on printout paper with letters, numbers, and spaces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm pacific standard simon:

Swag For Life Member 11:56pm 12539:

Thanks for all the old school hipster music, Mr Mandl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm pacific standard simon:

Gentlemen, I believe there's a representative from the BBC on line one with a conference call for us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, remember when hearing music and videos on a computer was nostalgic?
Avatar 11:57pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: Haha. DJ Val salutes you.
  11:58pm i k e:

@P-90, that was Brooklyn Chinatown, 8th Ave. @48th St. Couldn't get the FF menus into English, but at least I got it stop defaulting to Chinese Google. Only $2/hr. though. @PSS, XP indeed, and still slower than a Soviet bread line. BTW a friend tells me I'd need 8 GB for Windows 8. What the hell?! Why is it such a resource hog?! Bleh.
Avatar 11:58pm Droll:

Wow, Mandl burned up all three hours already... The longer the show, the faster it goes by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Andrew Waterloo:

You could buy Encarta 92 and impress your friends with the multimedia
  11:59pm P-90:

@ DJ Dave M.: Thanks, great show as always. 2 hours wasn't enough...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm pacific standard simon:

I remember when 8-bit porn was novel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm fleep:

Thanks DM.
Avatar 12:00am bobdoesthings:

good show!
Avatar 12:00am earrie:

Thanks Dave.
(Good luck, ike)
  12:00am P-90:

I remember "two-bit" porn...
  12:00am i k e:

Thanks Dave M., that flew by. And thanks to everyone for listening to my blather about tech issues.
Avatar 12:00am Dave Mandl:

Night, everyone. Have a great week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am pacific standard simon:

I can't tell if it's us or Therese making Dave laugh.
Avatar 12:00am bobdoesthings:

in my day we had one bit porn and we liked it!!
