Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Listener comments!

  9:02pm grass mother:

Robert Plantian vocal repetition right there
  9:05pm will:

This band's name was the first actual use of the term "heavy metal" (little known fact).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Stevel:

I missed Agent Orange when they came through last year. I hear I made a mistake.
Avatar 9:11pm Whooda:

The blow-up toy on the playlist's New Jersey graphic is showing an exposed nipple. hehe
Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Lonely Planet Boy:

did Heavy Metal Kids borrow their name from Rundgren's song?
Avatar 9:16pm Holly in NC:

Good evening efd and all other friends! Am listening.
  9:16pm Subway Series Mikey:

Rock me efd. Great bands in the offering?
  9:20pm Andrew Fetter:

Evening Evan and fellow listeners. Funny, I was just thinking this was a real "horrorshow" set so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Uncle Michael:

Maybe we'll here some beloved Ludwig Van.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Uncle Michael:

I think this band has listened to the Mats.
  9:26pm ?:

Uncle Michael, thanks for hipping me to Free Fall. You mentioned it was a efd fave. Great record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, thank efd!
Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Lonely Planet Boy:

Yes, I should; thanks efd!
  9:32pm Holly in NC:

Listening while hanging w dogs running wild and free on a golf course, which sounds awful until you realize golf course sans humans is best dog playground ever. These labs especially like all the water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Uncle Michael:

I'm craving Scooby Snacks.
  9:35pm Holly in NC:

Android cutting off comments is really p*ssing me off.

hi Evan & fellow listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Uncle Michael:

I don't understand what's happening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm efd:

Sheena Easton is taking the morning train, that's what!
Avatar 9:40pm Whooda:

I had to Wiki Sheena Easton, the name was familiar but couldn't (and still don't) recognize the face, or voice.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Casey Kasem still missing?
Avatar 9:42pm Whooda:

Is Casey Kasem still being held hostage to gold-digging family members?

@Uncle Michael :)
  9:58pm Holly in NC:

Android just ate my entire last (short) comment, not a fan of how update works w my phone. Assuming my phone is problem, is there way I can switch back to old app?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm efd:

sorry Holly, I have no idea. I'd suggest contacting Station Mgr Ken to let him know about the problems you're having.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Uncle Michael:

All archives have been off by a day in the latest version of the Android app for me, since its release.
Avatar 10:11pm Holly in NC:

Oh hey finally here for real on trusty laptop!
Lost comment = I am actually worried about ignorant small-minded grifter kinda total a*hole casey k.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm efd:

UM, I'd let Ken know about that as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Uncle Michael:

Good idea.

Anyone else with the Android app seeing that phenomenon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Alex of Chicago:

I hadn't noticed, but haven't hit the archives in a bit. Overall, the appearance is much improved. And playback has seemed more stable, but that's just my impression. Hope they add the ability to login in the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Alex of Chicago:

Navigating to a particular spot in an archived show is also better, especially those 3 hour shows. ;)
Avatar 10:22pm Droll:

Last week at lunch someone told me they were getting rid of their Android because they were so frustrated with (bad) updates being crammed down their throat.

By way of comparison, I listened to UM swear at the FCC flawlessly from the archives just this afternoon on my iPhone (which has a pitifully small screen and it's own software treadmill)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Uncle Michael:

I'd love it if someone could check. For example, on two different devices, any archives from earlier today are all listed as being from May 13.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Uncle Michael:

Dorry about that, Droll. I should be nicer to the FCC.
Avatar 10:25pm Whooda:

You better be nice to the FCC Uncle Michael, no doubt they have an order for millions of rounds of ammunition, just like the FDA and Dept. of Education.
Avatar 10:26pm Holly in NC:

@UM, yes - and many other issues. NOT a fan of update, and @Alex I've had exact opposite experience re play back (so bad that I mostly listen on tunein radio ) - but again I start w assumption that problem is my phone, as seems we all are having wildly variant experiences. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, fwiw. Which generally rocks, esp. for a free phone! :-)
  10:26pm Ryan Howard:

EFD, don't front!
Avatar 10:28pm Holly in NC:

Social Media Airhorn needs a tranq.
Avatar 10:29pm Whooda:

The airhorn sounds like it's done too much toot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Uncle Michael:

I'm happy with the update. There's just that pesky date thing. I'd love it if the next version could rotate to landscape mode.
Avatar 10:44pm Holly in NC:

@UM- plus 10 re landscape mode request!
Avatar 10:46pm TroubleInMind:

Hey EFD - the Klaus Johann Grobe album is called "Im Sinne der Zeit", not s/t
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm efd:

oh, whoops! Thanks! I just assumed... you know...
Avatar 10:51pm TroubleInMind:

...you mean because we release so many awesome debuts from stellar unknown artists?
Avatar 10:51pm TroubleInMind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm efd:

that are self-titled, yes!
Avatar 10:53pm Holly in NC:

@TroubleInMind -
Avatar 10:55pm Holly in NC:

Oh! And Spoonie Gee playing with Trouble Funk this weekend??!!

Holy most excellent crap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Uncle Michael:

I'm sticking a fork in this day. It's been a groove Thanks, Evan and goodnight one and all.
Avatar 10:59pm Droll:

. o O ( The "Ticket" was a bit flat this week )
Avatar 11:00pm Droll:

UM, Goodnight, and watch your mouth! You know I have fragile virgin ears that can't handle obscenity. That's why I stick to broadcast radio.
Avatar 11:00pm Whooda:

Sweet dream UM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm osvi:

Got tickets for that Tyvek show in Sacramento tomorrow, Evan?
  11:04pm AzulLunitta:

What is the address at sunset park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm efd:

It's 39th St and 1st Ave - I don't have a street number, it just says Industry City Secret Party Cove. Hopefully it'll be somewhat obvious once you get to that corner?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm efd:

Droll, noted the same thing myself! :)

osvi, still working on a national ticket giveaway system!
Avatar 11:17pm Holly in NC:

The new Woods lp is really good ...
as is this old Cars lp. xo
Avatar 11:17pm Roberto:

A perfect final track for one of the most perfect pop albums of all time.
Avatar 11:21pm Holly in NC:

@Roberto - isn't it [Cars lp] excellent? I agree wholeheartedly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I'd like to get my hands on one of those national tickets. I'm interested in attending Bolivia some night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm efd:

I'm really happy to have a promo copy of that Cars LP that separates out all the tracks... makes it easy to play "All Mixed Up" without also getting the end of "Moving In Stereo!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

This 1-800-band is the best thing the Cars never did.
Avatar 11:26pm Roberto:

Indeed, Holly. I didn't really discover the full album until a few years after its release. My brother had it on cassette and once I started listening I couldn't stop.

  11:52pm Eddy in Australia:

Great show as usual, Evan. Thanks for turning me onto the Bok Bok single. Now that I've seen the original cover on Discogs, I'm sure I flipped past it more than a few times at record shops/fairs. Grrrrr!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm efd:

Eddy, I know! Not something that would have immediately caught my eye without knowing who was involved.

P-90, yeah, that album's pretty great! Never heard it before the reissue.
  11:57pm Eddy in Australia:

@EFD: Shogun announced the Royal Headache split this week. Second album will still be released, though.
  11:57pm P-90:

@ efd: and how many radio stations would you guess are giving it exposure, like it's getting here?

Exemplary show tonight, great
Trouser Press party last week!

And let's all beam some good vibes to Casey Kasem, wherever he may be...
Avatar 12:00am Droll:

In the 80's was in a (series of) bands with the Ice Cream Mission to Mars guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Thanks, Evan. Nice end to a long day.
