Avatar 🥁 12:04pm KP:

Good afternoon, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Whosondephone:

I usually listen to another radio program now but I can't tune away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Irene Trudel:

Hi everybody! Yes, I was very sad about Rix's passing. (That was what WFMU-ers called him.) I'm dedicating the show to his memory. There's a link below the picture to his blog, which also has links to Rix's playlists and a few shows. Enjoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm DCE:

this is just gorgeous, Irene. Hello! sorry to hear about the passing of your friend.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm common:

can't disagree with you there, dce.
  12:24pm That BiPolar Guy:

Hello Irene. Yes I am a long enough listener to remember RIX.
  12:24pm That BiPolar Guy:

It's awful hot outside here in Brooklyn
Avatar 12:24pm kat330:

@DCE: This is more like an absolute balm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm DCE:

excellent wordplay, kat! touche!
Avatar 12:29pm kat330:

I'm touched! :) ☼ and muggy here in So IN.
Avatar 12:29pm drumsoverbogota:

I'm in love with Regina now
Avatar 12:30pm gongoleer:

Hi Irene. It's Stephan. Just tuned in. Latecomer to your broadcasts & didn't know this gentleman. Appreciating the solemnity & mindfulness of the music as it seems to eulogize him. Thank you.
Avatar 12:30pm dc pat:

Sorry, Irene...

pretty freakin nice in DC right now.
Avatar 12:33pm Van in DC:

Hi Irene
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yeah, just looked at the currant weather in New york, 27 degrees, nice, could do with a bit of that over here
Avatar 12:37pm kat330:

"Currant weather"? I'll be raisin' that 27 up to 29 here in Knob Knee. ;) Hi, Sean! How was Albuquerque? All it's 'crack'ed up to be?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Hey Kat, the trip was fab, drove to Santa Fe, lovely place. ABQ had some nice parts and the "Biking Bad" tour was fun. Three hour cycling tour of locations that was centred around Jesse Pinkman.
Avatar 12:41pm V Priceless:

Hi Irene - love the sounds of the surf - perfect segue into this Crim track!
Avatar 12:42pm kat330:

@Sean: Cool! Did you bring back any works of art?
Avatar 12:43pm Droll:

[Lurkers for King Crimson!]
Avatar 12:43pm V Priceless:

fasten seat belts for Sept. re-launch of Crimson, this version with THREE drummers!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Sean in Bristol UK:

No, just a bag of Meth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm common:

really V? crazy.
  12:44pm don:

Fripp, Bruford, Wetton, Cross and Muir- now that's quite an ensemble of players--
Avatar 12:44pm V Priceless:

Hey Com..yeah!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Sean in Bristol UK:

The candy version of course!
Avatar 12:44pm V Priceless:

unfortunately Bruford not among them though.
Avatar 12:45pm kat330:

@Sean: Heh, blue and not crimson I trust. Been off the boards here for quite a while. Don't believe I ever heard if you finally saw that alternative "dream" ending for BB?
  12:46pm don:

@ V Priceless- what do you mean? No Bruford on this album? Then who is playing drums?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, the box set is sat in front of me and for some reason I am prolonging the excitement of seeing this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Irene Trudel:

Bill Bruford is definitely playing on this album
Avatar 12:48pm kat330:

Ahhh, yes, I know that gambit well. I, too, like to put off something I really want to relish and do not want to end.
  12:49pm don:

of course Irene- V Priceless, shame on you
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Sean in Bristol UK:

I'm now hooked on "The Walking Dead"
Avatar 12:50pm V Priceless:

I meant no Bruford on September re-launch - here's link to "new" three-drummer line-up: www.progrockmag.com...
  12:50pm don:

he's retired v Priceless
Avatar 12:50pm kat330:

So I wager Atlanta's next on your travel / baseball circuit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Irene Trudel:

Ah, I see, V Priceless. It'll be interesting to hear, in any case.
  12:51pm bill domanico:

Lark's Tongue Part One Go Irene!!! I saw this line up in 1973 when I was 17.
Avatar 12:52pm V Priceless:

Absolutely, Irene! @ don...there's always hope! : )
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, how did you guess!
  12:53pm don:

re new KC: Jakko is son-in-law of Mike Giles, 1st Crimso drummer, and ANY band with Mel Collins is a must-hear I think.
Avatar 12:54pm kat330:

Philo and I, OTOH, are catching up on all the old Doctor Who's. Last night just finished with the Matt Smith Christmas special (ft. Michael Gambon). Just got my passport renewed, so we're setting OUR next travel plans for 2525 on Zarmina's World.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Webhamster Henry:

This Dva goes really well with King Crimson.
Avatar 12:54pm V Priceless:

@ don - can't wait! Should be an adventure and a half, as usual! Yeah, PLUS Mel Collins!
  12:55pm bill domanico:

Excited about the reboot with 3 drummers
  12:56pm don:

if you're a Wetton fan, V Priceless, his recent appearances w/ Distcict 97 very impressive-
Avatar 12:57pm dc pat:

Dva really has something going on...
Avatar 12:58pm V Priceless:

so I've heard don! seen some clips! He's still got it...seen him w/UK recently.
Avatar 12:58pm kat330:

Loved this Tinariwen within the first measure.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Sean in Bristol UK:

oh-er, this is turning into a set of epic proportions, Irene, your show should be mandatory listening
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry to be a bit dim here but is this Stewart Copeland on drums here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Guido from Cologne:

Stewart Copeland came with 4rth or 5th Curved Air album with Sonja christina as as only original member. This is the original line up.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Guido, thanks, I was a bit hazy on my Curved Air history
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Irene Trudel:

@Sean, I don't think it was Copeland. All Music lists Florian Pilkington Miksa as drummer. Curved Air did have him in the band at one time but there were lots of personnel changes over the years.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Irene, thanks, to use a phrase from the Spinal Tap movie, this set has gone up to notch eleven!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Guido from Cologne:

If i remeber the story right, Sonja and Steward became a couple before Steward entered the group. And all this came via impressaio Miles Copeland.
Avatar 1:17pm Van in DC:

I thought Fripp was busy with The Humans
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Mets being the best, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Irene Trudel:

Let's Go Mets!
Avatar 1:21pm V Priceless:

another classic, Irene! Great stuff! Speaking of drummers....!

Avatar 1:25pm kat330:

PH holds up so well over the decades for my ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm common:

whaling stories. great title!
Avatar 1:27pm Yair Yona:

Hi Irene and everyone on board
Avatar 1:27pm gongoleer:

Some singers have that signature voice. This is one of them. Can't recall his name. I was listening thinking it sounded like Procol Harum, then noticed your playlist; sure enough it was. Sure took me back about forty years.
Avatar 1:28pm V Priceless:

@ kat330 - agreed 100%! timeless stuff! @ gong..Gary Brooker - and he can STILL hit all the high notes today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Irene Trudel:

@gongoleer, that was Gary Brooker
Avatar 1:30pm kat330:

Enjoying the marine theme, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Irene Trudel:

@kat330, you beat me to it! Wish I'd seen Procol Harum the past year but I'm glad they're still going. I saw them in '73 or '74, when their live album with the Edmunton Symphony came out. Great show-- and Leo Kottke opened!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Sean in Bristol UK:

I can't think of any station on this globe where you can hear Procol Harum followed by Debussy, wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Guido from Cologne:

I tried to get my mum intio Debussy and she hated it. My explainations that large parts of classic Hollywood soundtrack music is in large parts inspired by debussy didn't help.
Avatar 1:33pm gongoleer:

Thanks Irene. His name was on the fringe of my collective memory. I feel better. Beautiful day up here in VT. Stephan
Avatar 1:34pm kat330:

@Irene: I never got to see them live, but my iTunes big mix includes a dozen from their Greatest Hits.
Avatar 1:35pm Van in DC:

Always love it when a classical bent shows up in these parts
Avatar 1:40pm gongoleer:

I can envision classical following Procol since their music was so symphonically laced and influenced. But Kottke opening for them; now that is unusual even though it was a great show. Imagine if Bikoff had been the opener.
  1:41pm don:

Curved Air still going w/ Sonja and Florian-
  1:41pm Kafuka:

This remind me of max richter, Thanks for your program. I love it. From italy.
  1:43pm don:

and Procol back in NYC and area in 2 months (July)---
Avatar 1:44pm Van in DC:

Here in DC, the classical station WETA plays a LOT of classical guitarist David Russell. He's really great. I imagine if HE had been the opener...
Avatar 1:44pm kat330:

Irene, or anyone here, familiar with guitarist/ mandolinist Justin Miller?
  1:45pm AzulLunitta:

Irene, I love your show!!!
Avatar 1:47pm kat330:

Is this song title wordplay to do with Portland, Aura Gone, I wonder?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Webhamster Henry:

Yes, this is an especially delightful set. Let the form be free!
  1:50pm KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Irene Trudel:

I remember Melaena Cadiz live on your show a few years ago. Wonderful stuff.
Avatar 2:04pm Van in DC:

I just loved that set
Avatar 2:05pm Van in DC:

Yay! Awesome news about Melaena coming back on live! Found her previous appearance here:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Sean in Bristol UK:

That's a shame
Avatar 2:10pm Van in DC:

Glockabelle is simply adorable. There is a light, cheery funness about everything she does.
  2:11pm KP:

Last show I saw at the Bottom Line was Procol Harum, with Matthew Fisher
Avatar 2:12pm Roberto:

OMG I used to spend hours watching that Maryland kitty kam!
Avatar 2:12pm kat330:

@Irene: Is that the Jeff Buckley soundalike next week?
Avatar 2:13pm Van in DC:

I think one of the songs Glockabelle has is about a couple of mice laughing at a cat that fell in a lake when trying to get a drink of water. Something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Leif Vollebekk bears a striking resemblance vocally to Jeff Buckley.
Avatar 2:16pm kat330:

@Irene: Aha, wonderful! I finally posted my own tribute to JB -- Gracewater Waltz -- an instrumental lament with wordless vocalization. Still couldn't come up with lyrics befitting Buckley.
  2:16pm don d:

50 years old and timeless- Graham/Collins- Shirley still sings out, but very rarely...
Avatar 2:17pm kat330:

This is Shirley a female voice I can really love.
Avatar 2:21pm Van in DC:

a gazelle stuck between your teeth like a caramel ha ha. That was another Glockabelle song
