Options Brian Turner: Playlist from May 6, 2014 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Like some kind of Bizarro World version of "Summer Lovin"...
  3:06pm ?:

  3:08pm P-90:

Thomas Edisun! Joohn Lennon meets Frank Zappa...
Auspicious start, Hi DJ Brian and gang
Avatar 3:10pm dc pat:

this song is just amazing.
Avatar 3:19pm Lopez:

It's a mighty fine blue sky Spring day BT; bring on the Japanese Metal! (Egor is ruling currently though)
  3:20pm sonictooth:

bonsoir à tous !
  3:21pm Lulu:

good stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm DCE:

that guitar sound...straight from hell!
  3:22pm Lulu:

(sounds like Black Sabbath)
  3:26pm Robert:

In real life, Saget was a dirty ratfink squealer.
Avatar 3:30pm Jay/London:

Hey love the broken amps boogle
  3:31pm emilyhatestheworld:

We got a showstopper!
Avatar 3:32pm Milson:

How do you do it BT!? Nevermind, just keep doing it! Kicking out jams and things of that nature...
Avatar 3:36pm Milson:

What does that bass line remind you of? Something...
Avatar 3:36pm Lopez:

This quirky Onyeabor jam is great. I love sweet songs that are actually about mass death and mayhem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Had the good fortune to see David Byrne & Co do this on Saturday. Great show- every song was like a 10-minute mini-party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm DCE:

@ Milson, something mo-town-y...can't quite put my tongue on it
Avatar 3:39pm dc pat:

this Onyeabor tune is working too
Avatar 3:42pm dc pat:

...and long. Went to the kitchen, checked out the tv for a sec, came back and it's still on...
Avatar 3:43pm northguineahills:

I ended up at the Onyeabor after party at a Nigerian restaurant on Fulton, Satnite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm DCE:

sounds like fun, ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Carmichael:

Man, I just got here. Hope you haven't yet released the Kraken!
Avatar 3:47pm Milson:

@ dc pat - it was like some Smokey Robinson into Quincy Jones 80's production bridge... it is familiar but not quite identifiable... either way, this jam and others on the comp has become part of my canon, of sorts.
Avatar 3:48pm Milson:

oops... @DCE... time for a self-inflicted throat punch!
Avatar 3:48pm dc pat:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm DCE:

haha, just a few letters to the left, milson
Avatar 3:49pm dc pat:

...which I'm told by google means "darkness"
Avatar 3:49pm northguineahills:

(didn't hear about the Onyeabor show itself until it was too late).
Avatar 3:49pm Chris from DC:

Burnt Skull!!
Avatar 3:53pm Milson:

I wish I wasn't so discerning... the parts are greater than the whole.
Avatar 3:53pm Droll:

[coming out from lurking to nod approval of a badass KC tune]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm common:

oh, time signatures everywhere!
  3:57pm sonictooth:

Avatar 4:01pm Lopez:

Mossenek is obviously the future of music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DCE:

great segue
Avatar 4:02pm Milson:

Mossenek need to play live right now in my cubicle!!!!!
Avatar 4:03pm Chris M.:

my favorite king crimson song
Avatar 4:13pm Milson:

...contextually that Rodman Melchoir recording is melancholy... hope everything is okay... Dan's "Hospital Poem" piece on the Starlight Furniture Co.'s release seems to necessitate some biography, yet I feel like I'm intruding, just being a record nerd and all... the recordings on their own are equally evocative, jsut some other place...I second DCE, nice run BT.
Avatar 4:14pm Lopez:

Monumental show show far BT. You're hooking up the vibe here at work this fine afternoon
Avatar 4:20pm MissV:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm common:

real weird
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm steve:

this is some next level stuff right here
  4:28pm ?:

Enjoyed the shevalreq, blackintimemetal
  4:39pm Robert:

Mr. Turner, same advice as I gave Trouble and am taking myself: loratidine (generic for Claritin), non-sedating antihistamine, 1/day dosing. Does dry your mouth & throat, but unless you're a DJ, not a problem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Carmichael:

I'm doing the same drugs, Robert. This season is killing me.
Avatar 4:43pm Brian Turner:

rough season!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm common:

oh yea! this is good n weird.
Avatar 4:58pm Milson:

Why is Giligan's Island so amazing!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Greg from Bloomfield:

The TV show, or the actual island?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm ░╫Kℰ░:

Usually the tree sex messes me all up, but so far this season, not so bad. Some specific tree or bush or pollen must have died (?). Or starting using protection. Or maybe there's Zyrtec runoff in the tap water.
Avatar 5:16pm dale:

love the psyche. reminds me of the sound effects in robinson crusoe on mars all discoed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Andrew Waterloo:

Dark Entries seems to be a haven for the crude, hissy, and dark side of early 80s electronic music.
Avatar 5:23pm Lopez:

Go BT go!
  5:31pm Lulu:

good tunage
Avatar 5:32pm Lopez:

Inutili is officially changing the season and allowing me to lazily enjoy the nice weather without fear of a deep freeze coming back. Locked groove
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm mrdonutsu:

This is some Dosed Bernie approved action here...
  5:44pm Jonathan Herweg:

I think this song just blew out the tiny speaker on my iPhone.
Avatar 5:45pm Whooda:

Very appropriate Inutili. That King Tubby was classic too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Carmichael:

I recognize this guitar from somewhere ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chris:

Absolutely recognizable sound, even today...
Avatar 5:48pm Whooda:

Moved into van, motoring south and am in FM broadcast area of FMU. Great privilege but keep getting confused as my laptop has seemingly miraculous sound, then realize it's the car radio. haha. Loving the JH mashup.
  5:52pm JakeGould:

Whooda moved into a van? Like Chris Farely? Down by the river?
Avatar 5:56pm MenfussMike:

greatest guitarist.....EVER!
Avatar 5:57pm Droll:

MM, Drums ain't too shabby, either. I miss when bands knew how to play.
Avatar 5:57pm Whooda:

@JakeGould. Down by the Payless, Dunkin Dounuts (free wife) and Pep boys. Had to do some brake work. Am more likely to live by the seashore for now, and turn to river territory when I go west.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Carmichael:

Ya Droll, this sure isn't Nickelback.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Stanley:

Well, that was three hours well spent.
Thanks Brian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Thanks, Brian!
