Avatar 9:01pm Whooda:

I hear the angelic voice of David Johansen. Yea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm mariano:

Hey Evan, Whooda, everyone! Still standing I see, Whooda?
  9:08pm Holly:

I am walking
home, ~.75 mile to go, carrying large bag, large laptop, & very large pizza. Wish me luck! pizza because I' m an idiot. Will be listening :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm mariano:

Oy, Holly! Let us know you made it -- think of the pizza!
  9:16pm JakeGould:

I really like that Calamity Jane. Yay!
Avatar 9:17pm Whooda:

@Mariano I sobered up pretty good after eating up what's left in the fridge before I move into the van where much lesser appointments are expected.

@Holly, for goodness sakes, your're pretty, you could have gotten the pizza delivery guy to give you lift without even expecting a tip! BTW are you having to walk under those creepy crackling hi-tension lines tha make every step a scene out of a mass murder video?
  9:19pm bill k:

Wow, this song is so good. It's the song that every nostalgia band that every reunited should have recorded instead of "Pool It!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm efd:

Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in! Barely keeping things going at the moment so minimal commenting, but I see you out there.
Avatar 9:24pm Whooda:

@EFD Technology invented to make life effortless. No?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm efd:

Not this technology!
  9:26pm bill k:

ps nice to see you at the comics thing evan funk d.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm efd:

oh, THAT Bill K! Great to see you too, I really enjoyed it!
Avatar 9:27pm Whooda:

Oh, I guess you should have ordered the TechYESlogy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm mariano:

This Cause & Effect: had no idea such 80s-sounding stuff was coming out in '94!
  9:30pm bill k:

Cool man, I'm really enjoying the show tonight!
  9:30pm JakeGould:

@Whooda, you should know how well technology works since you are duct tape & WD-40, yo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm mariano:

Oh wow, this Eastern Bloc: for YEARS I've wondered where that riff/vocal line was from!
  9:30pm Holly:

home! Only one needy person pestered me! On laptop soon!

Such good song!
Avatar 9:31pm Whooda:

@JakeGould I can't even exit the car without getting shocked mercilessly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm fleep:

Missing Patti voice.
  9:32pm JakeGould:

Whooda, the cloud! it will save us all! Kneel before CLOUD!
Avatar 9:33pm Whooda:

This Easterm Bloc version still succeeds in the morphine effect of the vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Tome:

always digs the Funk !
Avatar 9:34pm Whooda:

@JakeGould The "cloud" will be useful to me when I can dump my poop there.
Avatar 9:37pm nanantatee:

@holly don't worry, the way income inequality is growing you will soon be able to shield yourself from "needy person[s]" and enjoy your pizza in a comfortably equipped panic room, with a year's supply of diabetes medication on hand for your convenience.
  9:37pm JakeGould:

After carrying a 4 drive RAID on the subway to another location for data transfer, I can said: The cloud can go ram it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Uncle Michael:

Ivan Kral bummed a smoke offa me in '79.
Avatar 9:38pm Whooda:

@Uncle Michael Harbor a grudge much? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Uncle Michael:

Not since I gave them up.
Avatar 9:40pm Loretta:

hi..... great show Evan. will be listening w/o commenting tonight. totally enjoying it!
Avatar 9:41pm Whooda:

In junior high school I use to put those exploding charges in special cigarette that I would give to classmates that bummed them from me. Good Times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Uncle Michael:

I think the PSG road manager would have beat me up if I'd done that.
Avatar 9:44pm Whooda:

Haha, I didn't gain any friends that way but people stopped bumming fags from me after that. I am the cigarette smoker whisperer
  9:44pm JakeGould:

I bought cigarette loads as a kid. Was like 11 or 12. So excited! Until I realized I didn’t know anyone who smoked.
Avatar 9:46pm Whooda:

@Jake yeah, they make pretty lousy firecrackers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Uncle Michael:

About four years later I saw Ivan get his guitar tech roughed up at an Iggy show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Uncle Michael:

He tossed his Les Paul into the crowd at the end of the set and the tech went after it. To his credit, he cam back with the body *and* the neck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm mariano:

Great essay! That is such a trip: FLR played with David Johansen, Scandal, John Waite, and was the drummer on Bon Jovi's "Runaway," and lots of other stuff. What a life!
Avatar 9:54pm Holly in NC:

@nanantatee - I assume you were joshing with me, because if not you just assumed a fuckload about me and I am NOT in the mood. NOT.
And If I misunderstood your tone I heartily apologize!!!!!!
Avatar 9:55pm nanantatee:

@holly of course... I watched A LOT of louis ck this week ;)
Avatar 9:59pm Holly in NC:

BTW, "needy person" was my sorry euphemism for "crack whore". I gave her a piece of pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Uncle Michael:

I like this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm efd:

@mariano, yes, totally fascinating! Glad you read it!

And now greetings to Whooda, Holly, Uncle Michael, fleep, JakeGould, Tome, nanantatee, and all lurkers! Welcome and thanks for being here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm efd:

@UM :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Uncle Michael:

Oh man...ZZ Top is coming to Kansas City.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm efd:

you gonna go?
  10:03pm JakeGould:

Give them all your loving Michael. All your hugs & kisses too. They are just looking for some tush.
Avatar 10:04pm Whooda:

@Holly I finally got mixed up with my first crack whore this month. Damages...still haven't gotten laid and am out $340 bucks. That's a lot of pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Uncle Michael:

Not a chance. This is the midwest. It's going to be a biker and drunken mullet -fest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Uncle Michael:

I can play that on MY show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm efd:

Avatar 10:07pm Holly in NC:

Re ZZ Top (who I adore) :

@Whooda - that is a LOT a LOT of pizza!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Alex of Chicago:

Warm Soda sounded pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Uncle Michael:

Wow...I interrupted a mic break!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Uncle Michael:

great picture, Holly!
Avatar 10:12pm Whooda:

@Holly, last time I saw her was when I chased her away with a machete. Though I noticed she tried to break into my apartment since then with a paperclip ala' McGiver....stupid crack whore. Stupider me.
  10:14pm That's Ellsbury:

Yeah about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm efd:

@UM I had to get my response in right away because it's such a good idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Uncle Michael:

I'm highly suggestible.
Avatar 10:19pm Holly in NC:

@nanantatee - Sorry for being so thinskinned & bitchy. I'm actually in a really scary bad financial place at the moment, buying a $9 pizza was an act of gross stupidity on multiple levels, plus Chase misapplied our mortage payment (which has never been late, always early, always extra to principal) for about the 20th time so I walked into both a threatening "we've not received payment letter" AND a "you're such a good customer, time to refinance" letter on the stoop , so... sorry.
Avatar 10:21pm Whooda:

@Holly I recently learnt a new trick for pesky money leeches. Chase them away with a machete. Only a temporary fix though.
  10:25pm Stevel:

Whooda is onto something.

Hey Holly. Peace to you amongst your money woes.
Avatar 10:27pm nanantatee:

@holly any inferred judgments are on humanity as a whole and not personal... mostly i'm just making myself laugh and i certainly didn't mean to make you feel bad, hope things work out for you <3
Avatar 10:28pm Whooda:

@nanatatee that will teach you not to get between a stressed out Momma bear and her pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm mariano:

Gotta admit, I got totally pulled into that essay. What a trajectory, from the bands to the A&R days. Feel like I've just come back from a trip back in time. And what do I find when I return? Whooda terrorizing crack whores with a machete, and the banks terrorizing Holly. What a state of affairs!
Avatar 10:30pm Holly in NC:

I would love a machete, but I am so klutzy I suspect I would disembowel myself well before I managed to chop down bamboo or scare away crack whores.

And I'm not at all meaning to be facetious about crack whores.

@ efd & everyone - re Pop will Eat Itself - I still have huge spot in my heart for "Def Con One" - 1st song to sample Stooges? Maybe? Does anyone know?
Avatar 10:31pm steve:

ooo very nice dreamy time instrumental
Avatar 10:31pm Whooda:

@Mariano I can't see any difference between a crack whore and a Wall Street banker, except maybe the banker will never see the inside of a jail cell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm mariano:

I was once a crack whore, but it was before I found Satan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm mariano:

@Whooda: My feelings exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm efd:

@Holly, good question! Don't have time to research now, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm efd:

Also everyone should feel free to move on to topics other than crack whores.
Avatar 10:36pm Holly in NC:

@Mariano - Whenever I see "Satan", all I can think of is the Butthole Surfers' Sweet Loaf ...

"Daddy, what does regret mean? Well son, the funny thing about regret is,It’s better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven’t done. And by the way, if you see your Mom this weekend, be sure and tell her, SATAN, SATAN, SATAN!!!"

That may explain a lot about me :-)
Avatar 10:39pm Whooda:

@Holly that reminds me of one of my favorite philosophies, "It's always easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission. "
Avatar 10:40pm nanantatee:

what about the pop fest coming up, i want tix to dwight twilley. and shoes. dammit! i want them both! and i am poor too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm mariano:

@Holly: Locust Abortion Technician is an all-time favorite album, and that song has probably done more to promote Satan than Anton LaVey!
Avatar 10:47pm Holly in NC:

@Mariano - Locust Abortion Technician is SOO good. I in fact opine that all Surfers releases up to & including Hairway to Steven are brilliant. Then... ick. What happened?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm mariano:

@Holly: Yeah, something happened. I really love Hairway too, I didn't realize till just a few years ago that John E Smoke wasn't actually live. Remember how the songs had pictures, not titles? But yeah, something happened, though I hear their live shows kept being good.
Avatar 10:54pm genericPlacebo:

nice protean punk soundz there with the Cravats
  10:55pm sara:

nice track, hello
Avatar 10:56pm nanantatee:

chanelling joy division, tuxedo moon and taco in equal measures
  10:57pm sara:

I think they are of those eras
Avatar 10:59pm nanantatee:

ooh i meant wall of voodoo not taco but yeah looks like it was that era.
Avatar 11:00pm Holly in NC:

Is this Coathangers? First song of theirs that I've liked. Score!

@Mariano -HtS was one the very very 1srt cds I purchased (vs. lp or cassette) and the cd itself has pictures not titles, too!
  11:00pm JakeGould:

Here’s news. Someone committed suicide on the G line and now THE WHOLE LINE (which sucks to begin with) is out of service. twitter.com...
Avatar 11:01pm nanantatee:

@jake in japan if you do that shit your family is fined for the inconvenience haha
  11:01pm JakeGould:

Not belting death, but they say “suspended in b/d between Church Avenue in BK and Court Square in QN” like there is some other service past THE WHOLE LINE.
  11:02pm JakeGould:

Is there anything the Japanese can’t do?
  11:07pm sara:

Send anti-suicide robots all over the earth?
Avatar 11:07pm nanantatee:

it's kinda hilarious to kill yourself on the G line...kinda like inside llewyn davis, john goodman criticized his friend for jumping off the george washington bridge. if you're gonna do it, do it during rush hour on the a train!
Avatar 11:11pm Holly in NC:

Non NYC person here.. I assume G line is part of subway system?
Avatar 11:12pm nanantatee:

@holly the G line is a notoriously slow line which runs from south brooklyn to queens, no stops to manhattan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm mariano:

I think last week there were two other subway suicides.
@Holly: the G is the stepchild of the MTA, only goes between Brooklyn and Queens, and oddly, one of the few direct ways of getting from south to north Brooklyn. Known for short trains, long waits, and spotty service, especially on weekends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 11:14pm Whooda:

"WASHINGTON — The principle that all Internet content should be treated equally as it flows through cables and pipes to consumers looks all but dead."
Avatar 11:15pm nanantatee:

To attempt suicide on the G is almost as though one hopes for severe maiming and not death...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm mariano:

@nanantatee: Yeah, they always move so slow! I should note too that when I say south Brooklyn, I mean my own area, Carroll Gardens (with its own G stop!), which isn't really south Brooklyn at all, but gets called that on some maps. Maybe from back in the days before all Kings County was made coterminous with Brooklyn.
Avatar 11:21pm nanantatee:

This reminds me of a one-off show I saw in a rural truck-stop converted into a music venue in South Carolina... i found a bud of bright green marijuana on the counter of the bathroom which i crumbled into a cigarette and smoked and watched this incredible band perform as I sat in an old church pew in a barn with a hay strewn floor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm mariano:

How come I never find bright green buds? Guess I'll just have to console myself with the ones I bought!
Avatar 11:25pm nanantatee:

Haha I'm not one to seek it out but since it found me and I was a cigarette smoker at the time I took it as a sign from the gods and it definitely enhanced the experience!
Avatar 11:33pm Holly in NC:

I grew up in southern Connecticut, ouside of New Haven, but the City was absolutely forbidden to me (this w/b 70s, early 80s).
My dad took me to Yankee Stadium once (Bucky Dent! swoon!), fam went to see Peter's Dragon & the Rockettes (?!) , girl scout troop went to see Annie, & finally my bf & I snuck onto train to Times Square to get fake ID (I chose the New School of Social Research) - we needed ID to see The Ramones - in New Haven. Also to get mudslides at Fitzwillys & sloe gin fizzes at the Norge. God those were the glory days of bartenders just not giving a shit!
Avatar 11:35pm nanantatee:

you say ladytron, i think favorite roxy music track of all time www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm mariano:

@Holly: I'm sure you've seen and/or read The Ice Storm?
  11:38pm Mike Sin:

Al of you should have seen the awesome groove moves I busted out during the Combinations' track.
Avatar 11:40pm Holly in NC:

@mariano - seen - but not my world. I did not grow up in one of the sterotypical rich commuter towns. My town is gone :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Uncle Michael:

I gotta be on my Meriola way. Catch you all later! Thanks for the show, Evan.
Avatar 11:44pm Holly in NC:

New Trouble in Mind? Is TiM here?
Avatar 11:45pm Whooda:

Thanks for hosting the party DJ Evan Funk Davies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm efd:

later UM!

@Mike Sin, have you not heard of webcams?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm mariano:

@Holly - Oh no, wasn't trying to imply that, what with the key parties and all; I was thinking about the part where Tobey Maguire and Katie Holmes sneak into NYC. At least I think they sneaked, been a while. Bye @Uncle Michael!
Avatar 11:47pm nanantatee:

@efd i second that... a webcam go-go dancer would be rad
Avatar 11:50pm Holly in NC:

'efd's cam girls' .. there's an opportunity for some enterprising someone...

and guys, too!

cat is on my arm, hard to capitalize, sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm efd:

oh boy!
Avatar 11:52pm Whooda:

@Holly You, rather the kitty, needs this computer desk.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm efd:

Thanks for listening, everyone! Sorry I wasn't able to say hi to everyone directly, but your comments are appreciated! (And you're appreciated too, lurkers!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Alex of Chicago:

Pretty cool desk.
Avatar 11:55pm Holly in NC:

@marianio - isn't the ice storm the movie where a sullen pubescent cristina ricci explores her burgeoning sexuality, or something? i remember not caring for a single character.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm mariano:

Thanks @efd! Kick-ass show!
@Holly: Yeah, she was in it too! And Sigourney Weaver, Kevin Kline. Everyone was pretty miserable, you're right. I was just thinking 70s CT, trips to NYC.
Avatar 11:57pm Holly in NC:

@whooda - some day I will have that most excellent desk. I, er, pinned it earlier today ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Alex of Chicago:

I'll have to check that out. Big fan of those Welsh bands. Thanks, @efd.
