A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am common:

same here, dc pat. i had a dream last eve that i did see it, though. it was nuts.
Avatar 9:37am dc pat:

Sandra Rhodes said it. @common: at least you got to see something.

i love hearing this guy speak French to birds. Soothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Ken:

Morning everybodies - all WFMU streams and FM signals will go down for no more than five minutes today at Noon. We have to switch out a battery backup that controls IT ALL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Guido from Cologne:

NO RELATION to Laura and Meg baird of baird Sisters!
Spires that in The Sunset Rise !!!
  9:43am ghostofpeterfalk:

Hello Trouble and all - Beautiful song from Sandra Rhodes, but no rain here this afternoon in West Yorkshire, glorious sunshine! And co-incidentally with lunar eclipse chat from common and d c pat, I saw Ti West's House of The Devil last night, in which such an occurrence plays a key factor in the plot. Spooky in many ways....
  9:43am emily:

Good morning from Detroit!
Avatar 9:43am dc pat:

That's it, SMKen. I want my money back.
Avatar 9:44am Van in DC:

Does that include archives?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Ken:

Archives that begin before Noon should continue playing OK. Emphasis on "should."
Avatar 9:47am duke:

@ken does WFMU run on AA or D cell batteries?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Ken:

WFMU runs on one of these, plus several hamster wheels:
  9:48am trouble:

hey emily in detroit!! how are you? how is school going?

So, we should all take a bathroom break at noon, got it!

why is this GM melle mel tune so damn good??
Avatar 10:02am Sem Chumbo:

  10:02am trouble:

it's the kazoos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Ike:

Agreed, CD Tap & TDK60. BTW, TDK60, are you a cassette tape? I was more of a Fuji and Maxell kind of guy and still have a lot of those in my car, but there must be at least one TDK.
Avatar 10:06am dc pat:

I was def a TDK guy. Never steered me wrong. Maxells seemed to like to wrap the tape around the spindles in the player for me.
Avatar 10:11am HarktheUmpire:

I was a whatever-I-could-get-my-hands-on-and-fill-with-my-mad-rants-and-raves kind of guy. Also, I was 8 years old.
  10:11am Ken/ Park Slope:

A really inspired playlist this morning! Channeling caffeinated feelings from having my tax reruns in the mail.
  10:17am trouble:

merci ken!
Avatar 10:20am TDK60:

Ike, I'm a Late Humanoid not a tape. I like TDK & Maxell. I used some cheaper tapes too. Still record a few tapes. Have lots of cassettes still, about 6- or 700 cassettes. I don't endorse any company tho. Maybe I should change my name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning Trouble + listeners! Just mailed in my tax returns AND my FMU pledge. Though the government will not be sending me back a bunch of swag in the mail...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Ike:

Wow, that's even more cassettes than me. I prob. have 200. Is TDK even still in business? Naming yourself after a defunct (?) company is hip, not endorsement-esque.
Avatar 10:23am ghostofpeterfalk:

Love that Kevin Morby tune, the riff somehow reminds me of that piano line from Betty Blue OST. Ken, Trouble's playlists are always inspired are they not? Can I put in a kind word for BASF?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am thriftstoreleather:

what a great song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am thriftstoreleather:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Fuji-ike DR-II 100:

Music from a gas station/rest stop in Italy?! That's so evocative, Trubz.
Avatar 10:30am Sem Chumbo:

Noon would be a good time to play that Cage thing at noon. No dead air that way.
  10:31am ghostlywarble:

Sorry to hear about your accident! I was run over by a car a month ago and STILL have yet to get any compensation. It's super frustrating and this Joe Higgs song is the only thing helping.
Avatar 10:32am dc pat:

I still have some stuff on tape. One tape that's irreplaceable is Anthony Braxton Performance 1979. Best jazz album on earth. I digitized it as well just to make sure.
Avatar 10:33am dc pat:

jeeze trouble, ghostly--be careful out there. Cars are stupid horrible things.
Avatar 10:33am TDK60:

I don't see TDKs around, now that you mention. I can get Maxells at my corner bodega in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Andrew Waterloo:

I actually bought a new album on cassette this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Andrew Waterloo:

I still look at the recent cassette trend with a sideways glance.
Avatar 10:37am Reeshard:

"saudade" pron. "sow-DAH-djee" - the feeling of missing something or someone
Avatar 10:41am herb.nyc:

hi all, (1) oh great, we pay $1.2million for this radio station and then we lose 5minutes of airtime. i say "class action lawsuit". any lawyers here? (2) tape cassettes? they sure are fun, and, not. i once took a 60min tape and put 120min of stuff on it. more bang for the buck. (3) inspired by JOHN LURIE's no-show, i took some dvd's of his from nypl. one was "permanent vacation" and in its beginning, you can see the bldg that the mulberry street library is now housed in. neat. as for the movie, well... - take care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am common:

still using a 4 track...when it works.
Avatar 10:42am TDK60:

An online search reveals TDK still extant, their tapes too. I just don't see them around as much. Most likely via online merchants or office supply stores.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Jeezy:

I actually bought the Katie Gately album I heard on WFMU over the web in limited ed. cassette form just so they would send me the DL link then emailed them to NOT send the cassette please. I try to keep as much physical stuff out of my lil' Brooklyn apt as possible!
Avatar 10:44am dc pat:

speaking of old shit, I got my daughter a polaroid camera for her last birthday. She loved it. Totally different experience than snapping photos with dumb phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Andrew Waterloo:

@jeezy, that's how I feel now that I've tried to move my CD collection around.
Avatar 10:46am coelacanth:

Hi Trouble Hi Everyone.
  10:46am AZ Dave:

One of the great collective brain farts in the history of the Oscars: "The Look of Love" lost to "Talk to the Animals" in 1968.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am common:

hell yes, dc pat! love polaroid! film in general.
Avatar 10:47am ghostofpeterfalk:

Wow, Christopher Scott's version of Look of Love! Superb Trouble! I feel nostalgia regarding cassettes, but when the kids came along storage considerations meant harsh decisions for the music collection. Still have many legendary John Peel shows though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Andrew Waterloo:

I bought the cassette to support a local band that is actually really cool stoner rock band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am common:

nice avatar, ghostof...i was just watching columbo the other night.
Avatar 10:50am βrian:

I think I heard a Lonnie honk.
Avatar 10:50am dc pat:

[gasp] Do I hear Lonnie??
  10:51am blee:

Lonnie Holley! Mind on, check.
Avatar 10:51am ghostofpeterfalk:

Thanks common. I never tire of them, was it an episode from the 70's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Greg from Bloomfield:

  10:56am Sandy:

C'etait "Sous les ciels de Paris," pas "Les feuilles mortes."
  10:56am ghostlywarble:

I'm in Atlanta and I just saw a new Lonnie Holley exhibit being installed near my house! It's great to see him get national recognition (and finally recognition from his own city)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am common:

@ghostof...yes! I'm watching the 1st season. so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am common:

@ghostly...that's great! I missed him in philly recently and was bummed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Parq:

This "If You See Me" is a gas.
Avatar 11:03am coelacanth:

TDK 60 Don't change your name! They were the best.
I have tapes numbered up to 1,173 + a few hundred un-numbered,& at least 382 "official" ones. over 50% are tdks & most still sound good- some from c.1978. Much fewer maxells and almost no others still do.
(sorry- i know that conversation was a long time ago!)
Avatar 11:05am ghostofpeterfalk:

Common, fantastic! A joy to see the master at work. The series hardly put a foot wrong in the 70s. Mind On from Lonnie Holley great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Parq:

"I'm steering a lot of ships". Careful how you say that; you're on the air.
Avatar 11:06am herb.nyc:

paging HERMIONE MOOG, dj trouble is calling you (but don't do so betw 12noon and 12:05, plz) (oh, so we're getting about 5min less of todd-o-phonic todd. well, i guess that 's ok)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Ike:

And also 5 min. less of Tony Coulter on GTDR, I presume.
Avatar 11:08am luca:

Columbo was Great! My sister & i watched it every wednesday (?) night.
Tv was much classier then.
Avatar 11:25am coelacanth:

...well,not always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Andrew Waterloo:

speaking of cassettes, here's something to watch in that 5 minute gap
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Parq:

I was about to say, Coel, no it wasn't. Dye-No-Mite, anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Andrew Waterloo:

oh.. need the link www.youtube.com...
Avatar 11:32am ghostofpeterfalk:

coelacanth, haha - glad to hear you are also a fan, but you're right Columbo was one of the classier and more influential TV detective shows. Good shout on the art by the way and Trouble meant to say that Mr Paul Becker's art last week was an excellent choice, I checked out his blogspot link. Very cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am I.K.E. (Ice King Enterprises):

@coelacanth, for those of us who prefer serialized stories in shows like Breaking Bad and not just cases of the week, the best shows today make it TV's New Golden Age and WAY classier than 60s-70s TV.

I'm looking forward to the premiere of Fargo: The Series tonight. Supposed it's surprisingly good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am I.K.E.:

And,honestly,i don't know much of what's on tv now;Just some horrible crap that my niece watches, and a few others which are very well done; But i still couldn't call them "classy".
