this sounds like a Yoko Ono tribute band made up of seagulls
Avatar 3:08pm Whooda:

This sounds like Robert Plant lost in that wall of the Twilight Zone and Jimmy Page tries enter the wall and pull him out.
  3:08pm Robert:

Let e guess: You lost "Mr.Giant Man" so you played a cassette of it someone had recorded of it off air with a lot of multipath.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm coelacanth:

I'll only be here a moment, unfortunately. (outside work),but- Hi! This is awesome. Reminds me of early majik markers, though i'm guessing it is not that.
Avatar 3:09pm Cecile:

this sounds like Noddy Holder in a cement mixer.

Carmichael, how did you find it? ..I was on this one first, and if i go to fmu home it leads me to the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Ike:

Hmm, that didn't break anything. I was expecting the end of all space-time, or at least the formation of a small quasar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm DCE:

guess who's seeing Smegma tomorrow night?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm common:

that was still pretty good, ike. i feel changed somehow.

Avatar 4:04pm Cecile:

hey, Fab do you have something from Tim Buckley's Lorca floating around?
  4:09pm pj:

I hope someone finds my positives when I die
Avatar 4:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[clicky clicky, searchie searchie]
OK, so Jodorowsky's Dune doesn't hit DC until first week of May. So there's that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm common:

nice n chanty!
Avatar 4:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Local bretheren, meet me at the Landmark E Street on 2nd May...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm common:

Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

thanks, Fab! Great seg.
Avatar 4:35pm kat330:

Yes, Tim Buckley. What pipes and what pipes he passed down.
Avatar 4:35pm kirk from beer city usa:

this is great. I don't have this TB record. thanks Fabio and Cecile!
Avatar 4:38pm Cecile:

you know it, kat.
I love Lorca cause he sounds so free on the record.
Avatar 4:39pm kat330:

His wailing is so emotional.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm common:

ciao, coelacanth!
Avatar 4:41pm Cecile:

It's not easy listening, but it's beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm common:

never heard that tb. or any of lorca. likey!
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

I didn't know he recorded it at the same time as Blue Afternoon. Both of those are probably my favorite Buckley albums.
Avatar 4:45pm kat330:

I only own Happy, Sad, but Philo just arrived home and tells me he has a copy of Lorca buried somewhere in a crate in our attic.
Speaking of Philo: Anyone with an affinity for both film and Finnish should check out his track here: soundcloud.com...
  4:48pm Cheri Pi:

This just in. Iced Earth is playing tonight in Columbus, a 90 minute ride. but I have to go see the rock show at the wrestling rink. so torn... can't believe they even have time to tour with all the touring they're doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm common:

ooooh! thanks kat!
Avatar 4:52pm kat330:

@common: You are uncommonly welcome! Actually, he just uploaded a new track today. Not in Finnish though. Glad he's posting since I'm on a long hiatus myself. April's too noisy for recording at home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm common:

i was going to record this eve. you're right, kat. i'm just gonna have to have the ambience of ice cream trucks outside.
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

thanks, Fab! awwww

hahahahaha Cheri, what is their theme this tour?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm common:

hope everyone has a good eve!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Ike:

Thoughts on Colbert going to CBS, folks? His satirical right-wing persona is one of my favorite TV characters ever, and will depart, sadly. But he is very talented and capable of many other characters, as I think we will see.
Avatar 4:55pm kat330:

We've had air show rehearsals of fighter jets strafing us all this afternoon. Had it in other years, too, but never were we so directly in the flight path for so many runs and such low flying. It is LOUD. And all the birds are freaked out.
Avatar 4:57pm kat330:

@Ike: I adore Colbert, so I'm glad for it. Except I'll really miss his current show and hope someone as talented can fill those vacant shoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm common:

that's worse than ice cream trucks, kat.
Avatar 4:57pm Cecile:

kat, i can see Jon Oliver doing something with it.
  4:57pm Cheri Pi:

I have a friend who is going, I'll get all the deets and reprt back tomorrow!
Avatar 4:59pm Cecile:

there better be a good theme. Hopefully one with muskets and whatnot.
Avatar 5:00pm kat330:

Oliver did a great fill-in for Stewart, but I don't see him -- anyone -- walking that tightrope Colbert executes so well between pretend neocon and the underlying liberal import of his bits.
Avatar 5:00pm still b/p:

Colbert will do great monologues and bits, but by necessity will have to dull himself out/down for much of the celeb interviewing and back-scratching.
Avatar 5:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I dunno Ike -- I dig Colbert's current show, but Letterman "was" the CBS show, so I honestly don't know why "anybody" needs to replace him. I say kill the show entirely and let it stand as the man's good work.
Avatar 5:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

If the sole reason to keep the show alive is to keep ad revenue streams alive...... uh.......
Avatar 5:06pm kat330:

Interesting sounds in this UFO (Unidentified Fabio Opus).
Avatar 5:08pm Cecile:

you can sing Sail On by the Commodores to this.
Just sayin
  5:09pm ?:

my favorite neil young tune ever
  5:09pm vanya moscow:

This track now - i catch it on wfmu for the 3rd time lately!
Avatar 5:09pm kat330:

Chimes of Freedom cover? If not, it could certainly be sung with it. Or with the Neil Young tune.
Avatar 5:10pm still b/p:

Keep Ad Revenue Streams Alive is writ large on banners in network conference rooms and hallways, and sometimes an office-wide charged-up hypno-chant gets going: "Karsa! KARSA! KARSA!"
  5:11pm Lulu:

this is not my favorite song..
  5:13pm vanya moscow:

Yeah, "chimes of freedom" kind of! I thought so too
Avatar 5:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 5:17pm Chris from DC:

Oh man, Starving Weirdos.
Avatar 5:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...what the Toad said. But still...... dig......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Ike:

@Cecile, John Oliver signed up w/HBO a while back. His new show there begins 4/27. @RTD, Letterman has seemed pallid & distant in recent yrs IMO, & Colbert will do it so differently that it will be like a whole other bizwacker.
Avatar 5:25pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

To be fair, I haven't seen Letterman in 20-25 yrs, but I recall digging it back then... I suppose the man has earned a good nap.
  5:29pm marmalade kitty:

this is fabio catwalk bed music!
Avatar 5:31pm steve:

havent watched Letterman in forever but i did see a semi-viral video of a recent show with Martha Stewart where he was clearly really drunk or hepped up on goofballs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Ike:

Ah, THAT explains it, then, RTD. Letterman is just a silhouette of a shadow of a dot matrix printout of his former self, and has been for, well, maybe almost the full 20 years in question.
Avatar 5:32pm Cecile:

oh, that's cool Ike.
I think they should just give Merill Markoe a show. She wrote all his best bits. hahahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Carmichael:

OK, back again. I missed Dokaka, aargh!
  5:33pm Sunny:

I thought sun ra died in '93
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Carmichael:

@Cecile: you got the reference way back at 3:55! I will NEVER get that interview out of my head.
Avatar 5:35pm david_:

hello everyone
Avatar 5:36pm Cecile:

nor I, Carm, nor I.
  5:39pm nic:

love this
Avatar 5:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Similarly, it would have done the universe a great service if "they" killed The Tonight Show after Carson, and left that human bobble-head Leno wandering around in a gray funk for all eternity.
Avatar 5:40pm Cecile:

you know, he used to be really funny. When he'd fill in for Carson, he'd be great. But they gave him his own show and he became a company man.
Avatar 5:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

again, dig.
Avatar 5:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Cecile: I may have missed those shows, but it thus proves that success can be a very destructive force..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Carmichael:

Letterman had too many personal issues for me to keep enjoying him. He went from being the goofy uncle to the relative who needs help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Davis:

also dig
Avatar 5:43pm david_:

i really don't get the colbert thing... why wouldn't the job have gone to someone on the scene for longer? seinfeld wasn't interested? it's not like that episode of Louie? can someone brass tacks this thing for me?
  5:43pm P-90:

Ah, mais oui
Avatar 5:44pm kat330:

Colbert is riding very high with awards and all. He's a hot commodity, for good reason.
Avatar 5:45pm kat330:

I'm just very curious how he's going to turn his current interviewing style on its head for celebs and late-night butt kissing.
Avatar 5:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

and the chorus of oscillators have made me stupidly happy. Loving this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Ike:

Longer, @David_? Colbert is almost 50. The Colbert Report has been hilarious since 2005. That's like 9 years (yes it frightens me too). Before that he was hilarious on the Daily Show for years and years.

Seinfeld doesn't want to do that much work. He's too busy rolling in syndication cash stacked to the ceiling.
Avatar 5:48pm steve:

david_ - who else do you think would be better? i honestly couldn't imagine Seinfeld being a good talk show host. Colbert has proven consistently sharp for years in a vaguely similar role talking directly into the camera. he's also as fast on his feet with interviews as anyone (and will continue to be even if he's himself, not a character). and he's had a successful show for about a decade now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm YETI BOB:

i've been wanting to hear this song for ages, i knew if i waited long enough somebody would play it!
Avatar 5:49pm steve:

dam, you beat me by mere seconds Ike.
Avatar 5:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

By the way, Fabio:
I found your namesake at a local pet gear vendor. Named "Fabio:" A latex flamingo that makes insane groaning noises when squished. It is flipping amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm YETI BOB:

... and how come all anybody talks about are the ZEROS of the Riemann Zeta function? I want to hear about the HEROS, not the ZEROS!
Avatar 5:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Someone was bound to mention the flamingo. Best to hear this kind of thing from a sympathetic soul.
Avatar 5:50pm david_:

thanks Ike and Steve.
Avatar 5:51pm david_:

so why not Stewart?
Avatar 5:51pm kat330:

@Rev: Flamingo named Fabio? Shouldn't it be a goose?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Ike:

Didn't want it.
Avatar 5:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

If this is a goose, it's got serious problems.
  5:53pm marmalade kitty:

This track is reminding me of many a cosy night listening to John peel!
Avatar 5:54pm kat330:

@RTD: You get my reference though?
Avatar 5:54pm steve:

i think Stewart has less patience for pandering to celebrities, and he's way too dedicated to his brand of media criticism/journalism.
Avatar 5:55pm david_:

hmm, I feel like i've seen stewart pander to celebrities on his show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Ike:

Fabio, frigging *excellent* show. EXCELLENT. My failure to comment on the music until now should not be construed as a failure of this program's inspirational qualities in any way.
Avatar 5:56pm Whooda:

Fabio's gonna' get some. Luccky dog.
Avatar 5:57pm still b/p:

Need a hate hippo round my place.
Avatar 5:58pm Cecile:

it was an awesome show
Avatar 5:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@kat: alas, I'm not up on my goose significa..!
and re: Stewart, he strangely blew the Richard Dawkins interview. Train-wreck of an off-night that was.
  5:59pm Nellie:

I miss you two together on the Dusty Show!
Avatar 6:01pm kat330:

@RTD: THe OTHER Fabio, hit in the face with a goose on a roller coaster ride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Ike:

That's true now & then, @David_@5:55, but only 1/10th as much as, say, Fallon does.
Avatar 6:01pm david_:

re pandering see Stewart's interview with Paula Broadwell
