I hate you, so call me.
Avatar 12:04pm Cecile:

I saw Gary Burger with the Spectors about 10 yrs ago. He was awesome.
Avatar 12:04pm V Priceless:

Hey Joe! Ugh..rough week in the RIP Dept...problem is, who's gonna complete the trilogy? : (
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Guido (Cologne):

Proto Punks in Heaven
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Oh no! I didn't hear about Gary. I listened to "Monk Chant" on the way to work today.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:05pm MattBelow:

Hey-o!
Avatar 12:06pm Cecile:

right on, Joe. Celebrate the living.
Avatar 12:06pm Cheri Pi:

fingers crossed it's not Fred Cole
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm tim from champaign:

Aw man, RIP Rock Action and Gary Burger.

Scott Asheton drummed on some of the music that's most near and dear to my heart. Side 2 of Funhouse has everything that I love about music. Noise, chaos, dirge, humor, freak outs and rock solid rock.

The Asheton Brothers were the heart and soul of the Stooges to me. Smart-ass, mid-western punk wisenheimers that knew rock music through and through. As a Michigander, the Asheton bros are "Pure Michigan" as the slogan goes.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:09pm tim from champaign:

Kalamazoo!!!! My hometown! See King Khan and the Shrines "Land of the Freak" for another Kalamazoo shout out.
Avatar 12:10pm jljl:

I need to track down this Shocked Minds stuff.
Avatar 12:10pm Cecile:

well put, Tim.

Hola, Joe!
Avatar 12:10pm pierre:

Oh Bonjour Joe
and thanks you for playing the Monks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Guido (Cologne):

Iggy said in the early days of the Stooges Scotty was the real "Bad Boy".

Avatar 12:16pm KP:

i read that. tremendous work
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm tim from champaign:

Good one, Guido. The old Gibson building now houses art studios. It's a cool building. The smokestack has "Gibson" bricked into it.
Avatar 12:17pm V Priceless:

@ tim - cool!
Avatar 12:20pm KP:

That intro is exactly like "Feel A Whole Lot Better."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Guido (Cologne):

@tim
Finally someone got it! (Everything is worth a second try.)

Intersting info.
Wasn't there a follow-up company called Heritage Guitars?
Not in the old plant!
  12:21pm Dan Eletxro:

Hey Joe! Great times hangin' with ye out in Austin! Rock On!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm tim from champaign:

Guido - Yep. I think Heritage is still in K-zoo. ProCo Sound (which makes Rat Pedals) in K-zoo was founded my former Gibson employees.
Avatar 12:24pm Joe B:

Hey Dan! yeah, great time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Guido (Cologne):

Thanks Tim!
Avatar 12:26pm V Priceless:

Kinks Kover!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:29pm tim from champaign:

Last Kalamazoo factoid: per the Weekly World News, Elvis was sighted in 1990 at the Burger King on the corner of Stadium and West Main. I didn't move to K-zoo until 1991 so I can't verify it first hand. But it's undoubtedly true.
Avatar 12:30pm V Priceless:

Great Lost Kinks Album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Guido (Cologne):

I'm astonished Tim! Truly!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:37pm tim from champaign:

First things first, Joe. I know that if I went to something like SXSW I would miss most if it because I was eating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Guido (Cologne):

I better will not even think about what I missed in order not to hate myself.
  12:42pm Jonathan Herweg:

Love this track!
Avatar 12:43pm dc pat:

Every time I go into the local sandwich shop, they're playing Zig Zag Wanderer..
Avatar 12:44pm Cecile:

if they are playing Sonic Tap's 8-tracks channel on satellite radio, that song is in rotation right now.
Avatar 12:46pm dc pat:

Maybe that's it Cecile. It makes buying a sandwich closer to my dream scenario...
Avatar 12:46pm Cecile:

Greg Cartwright is one of the greats. He really is a true original in rootsy rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Guido (Cologne):

The Frowning Clouds ... this stuff is for me ... where#s the clicky-star?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm mariano:

@Guido: is it not visible next to the song title?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Guido (Cologne):

It just took a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Fuzzy:

Great mix for the post-Paddy Day Smokin' O' The Green!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm mariano:

@Fuzzy: ooh, great idea! Be right back.
Avatar 1:03pm SmokinJ:

I'll drink to that... :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:13pm tim from champaign:

After some internet machine sleuthing, I still can't figure out if the Higher State is vintage or current.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Cubicle Carl:

Joe, be nice to yourself. Mark your time by the shows that you made, not the ones you missed.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm efd:

Tim, they're current.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm tim from champaign:

Joe, what record stores did you hit up in Austin?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:20pm tim from champaign:

Thanks, efd. That Higher State song was groovy either way.
Avatar 1:20pm Joe B:

Just Antone's. Todd o phonic hit about 6.
Avatar 1:21pm dc pat:

Holy...
Avatar 1:21pm dc pat:

Liminanas are something else..
Avatar 1:21pm bobdoesthings:

I love when it when after... 10 seconds you know you love a song.

I've been to Antone's once. Excellent prices.
Avatar 1:22pm dc pat:

Avatar 1:24pm bobdoesthings:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Mike East:

I freakin love this Allah las album. Its a weekend standard at my house
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Jeff from Rahway:

The Allah-Las....killer song. Is there a new record coming out any time soon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Mike East:

if I were a younger man with no kids, those tickets would be MINE
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Jeff from Rahway:

@Mike East, that's why God invented babysitters ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Mike East:

yeah...we gotta find one of those, for sure.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm MattBelow:

That sounds like a pretty nice show line-up. Have to make it out there.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Jeff from Rahway:

Bummer...I guess someone won the 3/27 tickets?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Mike East:

Jeff, are you available to babysit next Thursday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Mike East:

JK
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Jeff from Rahway:

Congrats, Mike! And no, I can't babysit because I'm gonna try and find a way to go to the show.
Avatar 1:44pm InBrkly:

This has been an awesome sonic morning. Great show today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm joe:

'ello folks
  1:48pm KP:

Joe Lala died. I saw him as percussionist with Manassas and as the drummer of the Byrds on their last tour.
Avatar 1:50pm dc pat:

Ha! reading FB posting from Giblin right now...
Avatar 1:54pm Joe B:

Hi KP, thanks for the news. wasn't he the drummer on the CSNY 1974 tour?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Stevel:

Bud! Bud! Bud!
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

I love Bud Benderbe
Avatar 1:55pm dc pat:

wow. this may be the funniest song I've heard...in the last hour.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Jeff from Rahway:

Alright Joe! Now I can put these VU tunes on the hi-fi when my parents visit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm common:

this is great!
  1:56pm ted w.:

Great show! What's that killer instrumental that was playing when you were just listing the titles?
  1:56pm Bill:

Joe, with all the stuff you say you missed, you did catch Lydia Loveless, yes?
Avatar 1:58pm Joe B:

yes, twice! missed her last show that was a covers hoot night that sounds like fun
Avatar 1:59pm Joe B:

Hi Ted, thanks! tic tac toe by booker t and the mg's
  2:06pm KP:

Joe Lala was the percussionist with CSNY in 1974, he was also in blues image and acted quite a bit, voiceovers too
Avatar 2:09pm Cecile:

I think I knew him only as an actor, KP.
  2:11pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

I love Natural Child! Thanks for taking such good care of Todd-O-Phonic Todd, Joe!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm tim from champaign:

Harsh Toke...the name fits. Cool jam.
Avatar 2:16pm Jim Devoid:

Harsh Toke sounds like Kadavar!
Avatar 2:16pm Cecile:

Joe did a lot of voice work for the animated Batman and Superman series.
Avatar 2:17pm Jim Devoid:

HAHAHA! I guess that Kadavar sounds like Kadavar!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Nate K:

Loving the hesher interlude Joe.
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

Mr. Belock usually gets pretty freakadelic during the last hour of his show, to my approval.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm mariano:

Wow, very Zappa-ish guitar solo here!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:19pm tim from champaign:

I feel my hair growing already. I love fuzzed out jams.
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Man, the Blind Shake I can tell from the first three notes. That guitar sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm mariano:

I was very fortunate to see Blind Shake open for the Oh Sees, great show, small venue.
Avatar 2:22pm Cecile:

I hope they really knocked em dead down there. They need a break.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Nate K:

Saw Blind Shake at Gonerfest this year. I think they were second on like a 10-band bill, but they KILLED it. Great, great band--live and on record. Much praise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm mariano:

Speaking of Johnny Adams, there's a great one called "Reconsider Me," where he puts his multi-octave range to good use.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Stevel:

Nice! New Dex!
Avatar 2:28pm Cecile:

Nate, they had to book their own show with the Oh Sees here. And the last newspaper coverage was bemused and a bit patronizing because they are way more popular out of town than in town.

If I were in a Mpls band, I'd make my bones on the road, and then try to crack there. Like the 'Mats, Husker Du, Dylan and Prince did. :/
Avatar 2:31pm Cecile:

I mean, who but the hardcore remember people like the Wallets, Zen Guerillas, Hoopsnakes, and Iffy?
Avatar 2:32pm Cecile:

then of course there were great bands that were popular nowhere. hahahaaha
  2:33pm John L.:

The Gibson Bros. would fit in this set.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:34pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Good Day All Belockers. Thanks for the tickets, Joe! Seen the Black Hollies kill it @ Bellhouse a few years ago. 0f course, first heard the Allah-Las on this here radio program. If my wife can't do the +1, I'll give a holler on the board next week.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm tim from champaign:

I didn't know Zen Guerilla was from Minneapolis.
Avatar 2:35pm Joe B:

John L, no sign of jeff Evans but Walter Daniels was down there jumping on stage with plenty of cool folks!
Avatar 2:37pm Cecile:

Not the same band. The Zen Guerillas. They were a late 70s/early 80s New Wave Band.
Avatar 2:38pm Cecile:

Oh, yeah, another one that was popular here and nowhere else was Sussman-Lawrence.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm ChrisB.:

This new Lee Renaldo record is choice!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm tim from champaign:

ooh, interesting, Cecile. Did the Zen Guerillas put out any records and if so, should I seek them out.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:43pm KevinfromBayRidge:

this is an amazing song by LR
Avatar 2:44pm Joe B:

Cheryl it was vice versa! he was making sure i didnt get too out of hand!
Avatar 2:44pm Cecile:

Not sure, and probably not if the guys I know who were actually around are any judge. I did have a delightful conversation with their ex-lead singer at a Grant Hart musical installation deal a few years back, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Guido (Cologne):

The whole album is great.
I was surprised actually how certain artist do not run out of song idesas.
Avatar 2:45pm Cecile:

Guido, the more I think about it, both Lee and Kim were underrated in SY in different ways.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm efd:

Hi Joe, if you can squeeze it in could you please mention this late-breaking guest for my show tomorrow night?
Rachel Lichtman, director/co-writer/co-producer of the upcoming documentary Boyce & Hart: The Guys Who Wrote 'Em will be in-studio tomorrow night on The Evan "Funk" Davies show! She'll be talking about this amazing documentary that's nearing completion hot off the screenings this past weekend at the Monkees Convention and the Bell House.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Mike Sin:

Cool show today, Joe. It added fun to the lunch break.
Avatar 2:47pm Cecile:

that sounds pretty amazing efd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Guido (Cologne):

I was angry about myself that i missed body/head in a small venue over here.
So i went to Lee's show.
Bought the album got an autograph and WHOW, what an album!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:48pm efd:

Thank you!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm efd:

I won't tell you which one it was, but it's in the movie!
Avatar 2:49pm Cecile:

WOW, that's a hardcore powerpop fest!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm tim from champaign:

No way! The Bell House power pop bill sounds awesome. I saw Dwight Twilley and Pez Band play on the same night at last year's Blackout Fest. Twilley played Looking For The Magic as the encore. The drummer for Pez Band won me over because he was chewing on a slim jim beef jerkey while setting up his drums and during the first song.
