  9:02am fxo:

hey Liz, great show last night. Iko-Iko, indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am DCE:

hey Liz!
Avatar 9:03am doca:

hi liz, thanks for the marathon and for iko-iko! the one good thing about wfmu situation right now is that we can still blame the 1%ers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Guido (Cologne):

Good Morning Liz!

Will there be any videos from last night available for the OtherTimezones-crowd?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Liz Berg:

Greetings everyone, and thank you one and all for a great Marathon! We'll post the video archive of the Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia Marathon Finale soon.
Avatar 9:07am SirGagarin:

Hi Liz and fellow Lizteners. Energizing start of the set!
Avatar 9:07am Cecile:

Girl, did you sleep last night?
Avatar 9:08am Cecile:

I gotta jet to catch some of the vids from last nite.
Avatar 9:08am pierre:

totally missed yesterday's massive party, nevertheless i'm delighted that the beloved radio has reach it's goal !

Why is it still at 99% though ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Liz Berg:

I got a few hours of sleep last night... left the finale party a bit early. So excited that we made it to 99%. I have a feeling that last 1% will roll in by the end of today!
Avatar 9:09am Cecile:

oh, they aren't up yet. der.
Avatar 9:10am doca:

@pierre: it is still missing less than 10 grand to reach the goal :\
Avatar 9:10am Cecile:

I would love to give more, but I pledged 1/3 over what I had planned. Someone else has to do it.
Avatar 9:11am Cecile:

can you play stoned and starving if it fits and you're into it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Guido (Cologne):

Can't wait to see the Meghan / Keili vocal duo! ;-)

Could it be possible pledgers are hypnotized by the magical number "99".
Maybe you should have focussed on 111%?
Avatar 9:12am doca:

@Cecile: I'm on the same ground as you. And I've pledged over a money I still don't have (hope my scholarship comer next month)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am MD:

WE ARE THE 99%!!!
Avatar 9:14am doca:

@Cecile: by the way, what's the book about the hip hop business that you've bought from Amazon that you've mentioned sometime on Duane's show?
Avatar 9:15am Cecile:

Oh, it's called the Big Payback by Dan Charnas.
And J-Zone's book while entertaing and rambling, is also about the hip-hop biz.
Avatar 9:16am doca:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am MD:

But really...Sorry I could not resssssist.....I am going to up my pledge at least 20%. I was a GREAT Marathon!!!
THEY ALWAYS ARE! Thanks Liz and all your (our) Comrades!!!
Avatar 9:18am doca:

For me, Kurt was the highlight of the show last night
Avatar 9:18am Cecile:

a shout out to the lurkers who haven't pledge yet, pay for the entertainment you get on the comments board. We're worth $10.00/a year at least!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Jeezy:

How short from the goal are we?!
Avatar 9:18am Cecile:

what song did Kurt do?
Avatar 9:19am Cheri Pi:

Avatar 9:19am doca:

Avatar 9:20am doca:

Duane also rocked hard
Avatar 9:21am Cecile:

that is hilarious.
What did Du'ey do?
Avatar 9:22am doca:

A little willie john cover. Also Mac singing Stone Temple Pilots dressed as Abe Lincoln was amazing. Great showmanship
Avatar 9:22am Cecile:

Avatar 9:23am Cecile:

What about Bryce?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am common:

Avatar 9:24am doca:

Bryce didn't do the throat singing as I expected :\
Avatar 9:24am Cecile:

pidge always brings it.
Avatar 9:24am Cecile:

did he sing in portugese? Last year he really pulled it off, IMO.
Avatar 9:25am doca:

@Liz: those footage of old marathons were awesome
Avatar 9:25am Cecile:

it says 94%!
Avatar 9:25am doca:

@Cecile: he didn't appeared, actualy. Sad
Avatar 9:26am Cecile:

Escandalo, doca!
  9:26am KP:

Liz, is that you
Avatar 9:26am Cecile:

Or whatever escadalo means in Portuguese
Avatar 9:27am doca:

@Cecile: Yes! That's why the 1% is still there.
Avatar 9:28am Cecile:

is this the "everyone's gone to the moon" perv Jonathan King?
Avatar 9:28am Cecile:

Also, 10cc's first manager
Avatar 9:29am doca:

You could've said "Absurdo" or "Ridículo". They mean exactly what they mean in English.

I didn't notice Bryce sang on last year's Marathon. By that time I still thought he was the guy who did the show I couldn't bare to listen on Friday afternoons. I've always liked drone and those things, but it's nice to see how your musical taste changes over the schedule
Avatar 9:30am Cecile:

Yeah, he did a Caetano Veloso song.
Avatar 9:32am doca:

Last year Bill Mac's Flaming Lips was beter than any Flaming Lips I've heard
Avatar 9:32am fred von helsing:

Avatar 9:52am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

While the marathon is fun (was that really 2 weeks!) - I really like the week after the marathon. The music has such a relaxed sense and there is a kind of laid backness that brings out the best in everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am tim from champaign:

Holy moly, this set is sending me into a time warp. Good jangling!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am thriftstoreleather:

man, that was a great transition!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Ike:

Regular programming?! This station has regular programming?! And it's mostly music!? No more banter between DJ tag teams?! I don't know if I can get used to this.

Liz, great job last night & throughout the whole marathon
Fellow commenters, I think we all did a great job of extracting more $$$ out of our wonderful lil community than we probably thought possible. WE really helped supplanting the Best Show loss!
Avatar 10:48am Alessia:

@Kenzo the last record is really good! Nothing can be compared to Neon Golden but this is really nice!
Avatar 10:49am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah, I was into Neon Golden, but I'll look further!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am mariano:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Liz Berg:

Avatar 10:53am Alessia:

Avatar 10:54am Prashanth:

Hi from Sunny Heidelberg, Liz. I am a regular listener of your podcast. This is the first time I am hearing your mix live. Cool stuff, I must say. I like the less chatter more music format a lot.
Keep rockin!...
Avatar 10:55am Whooda:

@LCD have you ever had a neighbor with a dog that barks constantly, not aggressive mean barking but background sound? Then one day the barking stops and the silence is awkward and at that moment you *miss* the bark? POST AWAY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Liz Berg:

Welcome to the live show, Prashanth!
Avatar 10:57am Alessia:

Nice version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Ike:

@Whooda, woah there, woah. Not cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Nate K:

Hey Liz, Great job on Iko Iko! I caught it on the stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am listener james from westwood:

Congrats, Liz and WFMU, for the mighty haul!! And who knew there were "Gay Bar" covers?! WFMU, that's who!
Avatar 10:59am Whooda:

@Ike It's a term of enderment to LCD, a backhand complement. I trust our relationship can handle the slight in good humor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Ken:

Happy morning after everybody and thanks for all your pledges! i just packed up the fat suit and now I am ready to go back to sleep.
Avatar 11:01am Whooda:

Swag For Life Member 11:06am Ralphine:

How much do you have to pay SXSW to be an official party?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am KevinfromBayRidge:

Well Ken, at least you didn't do the Monty Python "Meaning of Life" fat man Burst!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Ken:

We got seven bitcoin donations during the marathon. in case anybody was wondering.
Avatar 11:10am Whooda:

@Ken you better get to the bank in doubletime with those Bitcoins. :)
Avatar 11:10am Cecile:

what is bitcoin anyway? It sounds fake to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am tim from champaign:

Keep your finger on the dump button during the Buck Bilxi set, Liz. Buck gets pretty loose during their sets. I can't wait to tune in on Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am tim from champaign:

I know, Cecile. In my luddite brain bitcoins are like magic beans or something.
Avatar 11:12am Whooda:

@Ike. I'm not good at saying, "I love you" so when I wrote "POST AWAY" my meaning was my wish for LCD to keep on posting and damn the torpedos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am KevinfromBayRidge:

Then again, if the bitcoins appreciate like they did last year, there may be no need for a marathon next year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Nate K:

Buck Biloxi and the Fucks are like performance art live. Really great slop. I saw them play the same song twice in the same set. Introduced the first time as the "best song ever" the second time as "such a dumb song."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Liz Berg:

Ralphine, we didn't ever have to pay to be an official party (maybe because we are non-profit), but we never had a fancy venue or much promotion help from the fest. I think you get a nicer venue, champagne, drugs, and friendlier soundpeople if you pay.
Avatar 11:13am Cecile:

please stop hitting the beehive with a stick, Whooda.
Avatar 11:14am Whooda:

@KevinBR that's true but two main bitcoin exchanges have been hacked this month and millions have disapeared. The currency still stands but is a little wobbly at the moment.
Swag For Life Member 11:15am Ralphine:

Does "nicer" apply just to the venue, or to the drugs, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am common:

ken. that sumo suit was hiiiilarious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Ike:

Ha ha Cecile, I was searching for those words, and you really nailed it for me! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am mariano:

Haha, Ralphie! What I was wondering too, naturally...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am mariano:

RalphiNE, I mean.
Avatar 11:16am Whooda:

@cecile I didn't realize I was stepping in anything, I'll wipe my shoes before I go inside. I was only trying to give LCD some encouragement. I'm sorry for any confusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am KevinfromBayRidge:

Maybe we should bring in Pseu to mediate this LD888 matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Liz Berg:

"Nicer" applies to the venue and soundpeople. There are no drugs or champagne at SXSW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Liz Berg:

Only beer and energy drinks.
Swag For Life Member 11:18am Ralphine:

My friend's hacked off because he spent a ton of money on a SXSW badge and still can't get into anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am tim from champaign:

You said it Nate K! The last time I saw them, Buck was having a hard time remembering how to play a song. An audience member pointed to the frets needed, then Buck got it. It was great. I'm bummed that the big man, Joe Pestilance, is no longer with them.
Avatar 11:19am Whooda:

No! Please! Not the Psue option! I'll shut up now, I promise. Really.
Avatar 11:20am Cecile:

great seq, liz. seamless.
Avatar 11:21am Cecile:

You just won't believe how much hate Herbie got in various magazines of the time for doing the commercial stuff. Never mind that he'd be doing TSOP at the same time.
Avatar 11:22am Cecile:

Or whatever his all-star acoustic deal was. VSOP?

I watched an episode of Treme last night where a group of musicians broke into a jam of Hancock's Chameleon.
Swag For Life Member 11:23am Ralphine:

It was supposed to mean Very Special One-Time Performance, but he did it more than once.
Avatar 11:23am Cecile:

hahaahaha, Ralphine, great minds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am KevinfromBayRidge:

@Whooda, Yeah, bitcoins are like today's penny stocks. FYI, I got the conciliatory jist of your first foot in mouth!
Avatar 11:23am Cecile:

It was either that or TSOL.
Swag For Life Member 11:24am Ralphine:

I first heard Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea on a 1974 episode of Soundstage on PBS. It altered my musical taste forever.
Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

Soundstage was pretty great.
Avatar 11:25am Whooda:

@KevinBR Yes shoe leather has it's own special alDente feel in the mouth and bouquet to the palelte.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am tim from champaign:

TSOL? Isn't that high end cognac?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Ike:

I was thinking Future Sound of London, but no, that's FSOL. Oops.
Swag For Life Member 11:26am Ralphine:

I remember a friend of mine telling me to be sure to watch Soundstage because Chick Corea was going to be on it. I said "Chick WHO?"
  11:26am Mark:

Perfect segue between Herbie and Sly. They were both definitely playing in the same ballpark around that time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am mariano:

Had no idea Sly did a song like this. I'm working while I listen, took me a while for my brain to process that it was actual yodeling!
Avatar 11:28am Cecile:

I have to do a mock soul country mix some year. Kid and Play did a fake country song, and Funkadelic has a few things that would work too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am mariano:

Ray Charles did a country album too, I think.
Avatar 11:30am Cecile:

he did a couple
Avatar 11:30am Cecile:

but he did it seriously. I want silliness. No Solomon Burke, either.
Avatar 11:30am Whooda:

@Cecile I always thought Tumblewee Connection by Elton John was a tasteful stab at the mock country/soul concept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am mariano:

Didn't know: I always learn so much here!
Avatar 11:31am Cecile:

I should revisit that, Whooda. Does it have some silliness to it as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Lewis:

@mariano - Ray Charles did indeed do a country album. Its pretty good, but I can't call up its title at the moment. (yes it was serious not silly)
Avatar 11:32am Cheri Pi:

Cecile, the whole Osmium LP came to mind on that last one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Nate K:

Modern Sounds in Country & Western -- Ray Charles
Avatar 11:33am Whooda:

TC is silly by concept only. In that Elton John would do country. There are some terrific songs, classics maybe.
Avatar 11:33am Cecile:

Yes, exactly.
I want the mockery in mock country.
I like country music, but I also like to make fun of it.
Swag For Life Member 11:34am Ralphine:

Tina Turner's "Country My Way" may be of use.
Avatar 11:34am Cecile:

Whooda, it's not that much of a stretch. If you get down to the nitty gritty, country has its roots in England.

Thanks, Ralphine.

Also, that Ween album with "piss up a rope" on it might be good, too.
Avatar 11:35am Cecile:

oh, Killdozer doing "I'm Not Lisa'
Avatar 11:35am Cecile:

And probably any Jerry Reed. Dude does not take himself seriously one bit.
  11:35am Mark:

Lewis, Ray's country album was called "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am mariano:

I remember some Zappa song from 200 Motels making fun of country, but it's been years. Was gonna mention the Ween album, but there's no soul.
Avatar 11:35am Mdurek:

Yay all music again! Twas a nice party last night. Congrats FMU
Avatar 11:35am Whooda:

Ballad of a Well Known Gun is one song title I remember from the Tumbleweed Connection album. That gives you an idea of tounge-in-cheek approach to the project.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Guido (Cologne):

.... exactly Prliament "osmium" had this marvelous qusi-country track ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Lewis:

Thanks @RT and @Mark - pretty catchy title eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am tim from champaign:

What's your take on Kandia Crazy Horse's album, Cecile? The song title "Gunfight at the Golden Corral" slays me.
Avatar 11:37am Cecile:

It doesn't have to neccesarily be soulful, but it helps.
  11:38am Mark:

Yeah, I mean he was very sincere about it, but to me, it's still country music. Just not my cup of tea.
Avatar 11:38am Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Liz and all the listeners.
Avatar 11:39am Cecile:

I kinda of don't like most country rock in that vein, but that song is good. I'm not a huge fan of the Laurel Canyon sound she loves so much. I do like Neil Young, though.
Avatar 11:39am Mdurek:

@Cecile , Neil Young is his own category :)
Avatar 11:39am Cecile:

It's really well done, and she is so talented, and but it's not my cup of tea.
Avatar 11:40am dc pat:

huh...I just walked into local sandwich shop to get an eggplant sandwich and guess what came on to the store pa? That's right, ZigZag Wanderer. What are the chances of that?
Avatar 11:40am Cecile:

You know it. How he ended up how he did running with that pack is still a mystery to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Ken From Hyde Park:

Does the WFMU home page or other page have a link to the videos? www.ustream.tv... It currently shows the DJ's video archives, but not the finale from last night. By the way, good job last night, Liz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am tim from champaign:

Thank goodness the Black Keys dude didn't get his hands on this Tinariwen record.
Avatar 11:42am dc pat:

ZZ Wanderer is definitely the tune I'd do with H&MS if I were an FMU dj.
Avatar 11:42am Cecile:

was there a danger of that, Tim?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am tim from champaign:

No, I'm just still disappointed in how cruddy the production is on the Bombino record that the Black Keys dude produced.
Avatar 11:46am Cecile:

I was watching a Dinner Impossible where Bootsy Collins was in tow, and Robert Irvine was amazed at how well Bootsy followed his directions. "I was in James Brown's band, baby! This is nothing!
Avatar 11:50am Mdurek:

This song is awesome

This Guerrilla Toss is nuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Andrew Waterloo:

Only $6994 to go.
Avatar 11:53am stavros:

loving this song right now
Avatar 11:54am dc pat:

hey, Guerilla Toss was pre-starred...the system works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Andrew Waterloo:

Is there a cosmic connection between donating to WFMU and then finding a crack in your windshield?
Avatar 11:55am Cecile:

this sounds like June of '44 if they were a thrash band.
  11:57am Brendan:

Think of Cosmos. This shows setlist should have been put on the Voyager spacecraft instead of Chuck Berry. It is far more worthy. Hindsight sucks.
Avatar 11:58am dc pat:

watch it Brendan...
Avatar 11:58am northguineahills:

Thanks for the sounds, Liz!
Avatar 11:58am doca:

Obnox is amazing!
Avatar 11:59am dc pat:

Yeah, this set is working out JUST fine.
Avatar 11:59am pierre:

somehow I feel like there's truly a "In the Red" kinda sound, isn't it ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Andrew Waterloo:

This has been a very starrable set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm chris:

So happy to be able to catch this last set, Liz! Woot! Have a great week, all!
