Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

how do, amanda & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Amanda:

Hi there, James & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Carmichael:

Good morning Amanda and future listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Stevel:

Here for the start, for a change. This pleases me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Dominick:

Howdy. How's the driving?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

hah, haven't heard the "bartiromo" cut in ages. iirc i think she's stepping down or moving to another network.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Doug Schulkind:

The Scenario rules because there are no rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Nate K:

I used to think this was the coolest tribute song ever back when Maria was a local celeb. She's sadly evolved into a typical Fox News reactionary through the years though. Still, great song. Joey's solo stuff always makes me a little sad, as it was so close to his passing.
Avatar 12:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- she's moving to Fox ! I hope she has the self-determination to speak her mind - which you;d think she would - but then she is about money...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Nate K:

@listener james, she's going to Fox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

the flip side of the single is "jim cramer took my baby away"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Nate K:

@james thumbs up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

jeez, the fox biz network is even more fictionally based than cnbc. better match, i guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Amanda:

Maybe once Joey passed, Maria lost her soul and had no qualms about selling out...
Avatar 12:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Right-Wing so-called 'pro business' - get rid of the rules - 'Rising tide lifts all ships' stuff - which is why the Stock Market soars & everyone else is out of work & starves...or, given the 'rising tide' - should I say 'drowns'...maybe Maria would say do what's good for Biz, though, & stop the Govt. obstruction....anyhow...
  12:14pm earrie:

No one ever makes the point that every tide that comes in goes out.

Boom/bust and the 19th-20th centuries drag on. Sigh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm pacific standard simon:

Oh boo -- I snoozed and I losed: "Ragin' Eyes".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm listener james from westwood:

the flaw comes when these anchors and talking heads try to impose a narrative on the market, economies, money, etc. to hook in the viewer. a fallacious connection. numbers is numbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm pacific standard simon:

Missed it by THAT much.
Avatar 12:17pm still b/p:

The gentleman rep from Staten Island threatened to throw a reporter "off this fucking balcony."
Avatar 12:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Maria would recognize Cycles - but look: they did away w/ the rules put in after the Depression said the Banks can gamble w/ their own money - but not ours - then huge Bubble & - almost the end of our Economy! - Depression.2 - & the rules haven't been changed back - in fact, they got bailed out & are still very very rich...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Carmichael:

No one reports the news anymore. Just the spin on how it will screw everything up and, besides, Roger Ailes ordered me to say this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm pacific standard simon:

This is that version where Dave Edmunds proves that he can sing like a girl even better than Clarence "Frogman" Henry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

If only Joey Ramone had written a love song to Nate Silver. Now I would dance like a banshee to that sucker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Nate K:

Not to harp on Maria too much longer, but she takes vocal offense to any attacks on Wall Street at all, even sensible recommendations for reform. She's against all regulation, she thinks punishing banks and their CEOs is bad for business, etc. As Joey mentioned, though, she does have pretty eyes.
Avatar 12:20pm earrie:

Boom and bust is a broken model adhered to by those who are able to get out quick enough and scatter the losses to all but themselves.

That's good economics in boom/bust.
It's built on an archaic premise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Doug Schulkind:

OK, now I'm gonna start crying again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Brian in UK:

I loves the integrity of the press.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm listener james from westwood:

if the next bond film features nate silver as the supervillian, we could get a "silverfinger" tune out of someone.
Avatar 12:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- it's just like getting our Music somewhere other than Commercial outlets here ; you gotta get News & Information elsewhere too (PBS, Bill Moyers, Democracy Now! - I dunno)...Unfortunately, we can't get Govt. offline the System - mahhhn !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Brian in UK:

I trust the BBC, mostly.
Avatar 12:24pm earrie:

It'd work in a limitless universe. A universe with negligible costs with exploiting the shit out of resources. It made sense in the 19th century. As did archaic medical practices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Brian in UK:

On the basis that History is Bunk, why should we trust what is dished up daily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Brian in UK:

Avatar 12:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...phone hacking - how can people be so ignorant as to give anything owned &/or operated by gawdam Rupert Murdoch (Fox!) any credence anymore? Ignorance. Keep the cultures of US & UK seperate - obscure & deny to the last...
- It's like the Electoral Process now jeezhus
...Quite so, Brian - how can you trust News Reporting when it's a Commercial Enterprise & they are Ratings & Sponsors to answer to - ?? The very proper BBC included. It doesn't make sense...Consider your sources...
Avatar 12:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...urm - liked that set of - uh - Music too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm pacific standard simon:

Amanda: It's like finding your dad's Playboys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

i remember buying "rubaiyat" for the metallica queen cover. years later, i sold it back to cd world in paramus. the clerk was flabbergasted at the lineup.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Nate K:

Your grammar is not very "well" today, you mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm efd:

That You Am I record was revolving more than it should.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm listener james from westwood:

you're not kiddin' about the weather. just past high noon and 19 deg. in westwood. soup for sure for lunch.
Avatar 12:36pm Danne D:

Hi pss :)
Avatar 12:37pm Danne D:

or you can do a mash-up of both shows at the same time(!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Nate K:

Simpsons! Can't wait! If you ever want to have a full Simpsons show let me know. I would happily pontificate.
Avatar 12:39pm Fernando M P:

Finally tuned in. What did I miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Brian in UK:

Hope your granma gets better soon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm pacific standard simon:

I am surprisingly faithful to the Drummer stream, with a couple of exceptions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Amanda:

@efd, thank you -- that is the most diplomatic way of putting it!

@Nate, really?? I would super like to do a Simpsons show. Will let you know.

@pss, Marathon anticipation IS building, for me at least.
Avatar 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh - the Finns...sounded like George Harrison w/ an Everly! - some Wilbury cousin..."Try Whistling This' is a favorite album...
Avatar 12:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wonder if I could see Richard Thompson play Live everyday - how long it would take to get tired of it...
Avatar 12:56pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm pacific standard simon:

I got Nick Cave tickets yesterday! July2nd! Feels weird to buy 5 months in advance, but Austin (and SF, I think) are already sold out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Can anyone recommend a good external DVD drive?
Avatar 1:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sometimes - you see a Show - & yerknow - ya had a headache er somethin' & think - they weren't that great...& then a little later you think - I'm so glad I saw that !!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Dominick:

such an awesome song
Avatar 1:02pm ndbob:

Agreed Amanda - I've seen part of it
Avatar 1:02pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Jeff Golick:

Hi, there. Longtime listener (today), new commenter (today).

@Doug: you mean for storage? Or for the playing of DVDs on, say, a PC? Re storage, I found this to be a good recent post: blog.backblaze.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Amanda:

Thanks jayc!

Yes, that doc is on Netflix... that is how I saw it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks glenn and Dominick!

@Jeff Golick
No, not for storage. For actually burning of CDs or for loading tracks from CDs onto my computer. The optical/DVD drive in my desktop (iMac) is dying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm pacific standard simon:

Thanks, Amanda -- I'll put it in my queue.
Avatar 1:10pm glenn:

surprisingly, chris christie isn't he only retard in the republican party.
Avatar 1:11pm glenn:

when do you need it? i have one i'll send you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Gulp, you lookin' at me?!? I could use a drive yesterday. Right now, I am burning stuff on a laptop, then transferring them with a thumb drive. Pain in the arse. TNX!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

"no, this is bronson, missouri!"
"yo ma, gimme a cookie!
"no dice, kid!"
"this ain't ovah!"
Avatar 1:17pm glenn:

before i commit myself, let me see if i can find the software disc.
Avatar 1:17pm glenn:

although it's probably available as a download.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Either way, you should definitely have yourself committed, glenn.
Avatar 1:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

God Save the KINKS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm pacific standard simon:

Will you hate me if I admit that I've never seen a Simpsons episode in my life?
Avatar 1:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...websearched & tried to scare up 'Good Ol' Freda' on vizzio.co (???) - & it crashed my Browser & stuff ! - look out !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

no. i've never seen a brady bunch, partridge family, or monkees ep, and i was squarely in their rerun demographc as a gen x-er.
Avatar 1:20pm glenn:

oooooh. zing.
Avatar 1:21pm earrie:

That episode gave picture to the faceless. Not figuratively, but literally. The peeled-off-face-state in all its cartoon gore glory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm listener james from westwood:

most people would assume i've seen all the buffy the vampire slayers and harry potter films, but i haven't seen any. the latter eventually. need to read the books 1st.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm pacific standard simon:

I didn't even have a TV during the Nineties, though I somehow managed to see some Beavis & Butthead episodes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Amanda:

I like to think that anyone who has never watched the Simpsons can still enjoy this program...
Avatar 1:27pm Danne D:

Dangermouse :)
Avatar 1:27pm ndbob:

nice Fleetwoods song there Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm listener james from westwood:

now THIS i watched.
Avatar 1:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I liked Buffy & spin-offs - & Charmed too (...esp. the casting...yerknow...); the Potter I've just stumbled upon seeing & thot them okay - but - yerknow - I'm a Tolkienmaniac...& I resent the Good Guys are Lions & the Bad Guys are Snakes - same old typecasting & lookism - stupid & boring...altho' Rowling (the auhtor) is my AgeGroup...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Dominick:

Oooh a fave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm pacific standard simon:

The Best of The Fleetwoods would be an excellent Marathon prize for this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

not having tv as of about 2004ish is why i stopped watching "the simpsons." it was basically all i was watching on broadcast tv, until a storm blew the antenna off the apt. bldg.
Avatar 1:29pm Danne D:

haven't heard this in quite a while :)
Avatar 1:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if it aint' Stiff - it ain't worth a Lump !...

Dangermouse basically was the only highlight of a desert of cartoons at the time it was out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm pacific standard simon:

Don't remember this at all.
Avatar 1:30pm Danne D:

This song has such a Tormato-era Yes vibe btw ;)

Howdy all Nazarites.
@LJFW-My demographic is the one that avoided those shows like the plague!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm listener james from westwood:

useless DM trivia: they dubbed the crow henchman's voice for the us market. in the uk he spoke with an italian accent as though he were a mafioso. over here he just sounds like a generic gruff criminal type. but they still had him adding the "e" at the end of "baron" in the dubbing as though he were reciting chico marx's lines or something.
Avatar 1:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- whence that Kinks - ?!?
...I feel like I've seen Simpsons more than I realize I have...I know it's good...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm listener james from westwood:

it's a perfectly cromulent show.
Avatar 1:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I kinda gave up TV ! - PBSNewshour & Grimm on NBC...ain't gonna pay for cable - loves my musicstreams & online sturffs here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm listener james from westwood:

i buy like 1 or 2 series from itunes, and subscribe to netflix for anything else i'm curious about. with breaking bad off the air, that's down to 1 itunes series, actually. 95% of tv is dross. give me a book, a freeform radio station, or a bunch of friends and a walk in the woods any day!
Avatar 1:40pm earrie:

Maybe it was the 18+ rating of the referenced movie and some kinda general transitive rating type rule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Kiss Me Kate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm listener james from westwood:

UK has some odd content rules. head butts get scissored in films, iirc, or incur a higher rating.

Well, well, look at the time! Thanks for pleasant, swinging show, Amanda -- off to work!
