Yay for the Todd-o-phonia today, but I'm getting concerned that Terre T. hasn't been here for over a month now. She's not sick or something, right?
Avatar 3:16pm Sonny Rickles:

Greetings from sunny San Diego! The show is off to a rockin' start. Keep up the great tunes, Todd!
  3:21pm Speck:

Great show. Wild Tiger Woman!!! Love it.
  3:23pm Teri Olins:

Enjoying the show in the big smoke. The Move kicked off our dinner of cottage pie and champagne. Got anything to accompany apple crumble? Cheers!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Mike East:

I won't say I don't miss terre...I do. I will say that the DJ's she tends to get to fill in are some of the best fill in DJ's on this station. Present company included.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good to know that Terre hasn't been sent to a clinic and will be back in due time.
Avatar 3:34pm CTEmpress:

Hey Todd: keep 'em coming on strong!
Avatar 3:34pm glenn:

thanks evan. from the accu playlist it appears like chris m. is the only person to have played them.
Avatar 3:38pm bealonee sandwich:

@eld Thanks for that. The question of the photo, Ace of Cups, was killing me. Interesting wiki read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm efd:

I did a "starts with" search and found a few others have given them a spin, including Miss Terre T herself. Looks like there was a a CD collection released about 10 years ago.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Gaylord Fields:

Shea Stadium vesion of I'm Down even surpasses the record, with fantastic elbow keyboard playing by J.W. Lennon. It's a rare glimpse iof the top-tier live band they must have been back in the days when they could actually hear themselves onstage.
Avatar 4:06pm 8track:

sorry ? = 8track 4:04
  4:06pm slade:

Texting while driving to say this show rocks.
Avatar 4:07pm Elliott Simon:

actually they couldn't hear themselves at Shea and they were basically farting around
  4:07pm Frank Above:

Ah, I tuned in just in time!
Avatar 4:09pm herb.nyc:

(2 weeks later) that EQUALS song was indeed v.g.; i'll look for this comp cd i have, somewhere. (Super Bowl tickets giveaway during Rob W's show? i googled, and see there's a new headliner for that halftime show: Décimas: Music and Poetry of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic)
  4:10pm Teri Olins:

Raising a glass to you, Sissophonic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Gaylord Fields:

@Elliott Simon: My comment about the days when they actually could hear themselves onstage seems to address that, don't you think?
Avatar 4:11pm Elliott Simon:

yeah yeah.....just commenting....shame there arent really any good concert tapes fo them say in Liverpool r Hamburg
Avatar 4:13pm Elliott Simon:

the early pics and boots definitely have a punkish flavor to them in a ted sort of way
Avatar 4:16pm Elliott Simon:

diggin the Nazz...been a long time.....got any movin sidewalks?
  4:17pm Frank Above:

One of my fave Nazz songs.
  4:18pm Teri Olins:

@Gaylord if Todd will insist on playing "manly" vocals…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Gaylord Fields:

@Elliott Simon: All there seems to be pre-Beatlemania other than Star-Club in 1962 (The Milkshakes owe their existence to the Beatles' version of "Shimmy Like Kate") is the Cavern footage of "Some Other Guy" and "Kansas City." Well, that's why God gave us Bambi Kino! See them on February 8th at Union Hall, if you're local.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@Teri: Todd even plays "manly" Paul McCartney vocals, FFS!
Avatar 4:24pm Elliott Simon:

@Gaylord ..the Star Club suffers from lots of things but some of the brilliance shines through....and there isn't any video of the Star Club..is there?
Avatar 4:26pm glenn:

john mayall???? huh.
  4:27pm Frank Above:

  4:28pm james:

You timed the 420 songs perfectly.
  4:28pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

My favorite John Mayall song, too.
Avatar 4:29pm Elliott Simon:

@Gaylord there was a color newsclip of them in England on you tube for awhile that was good dont know if it is still there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Oh yeah, Rob is going to India for a month and Lamin is the fill-in person until he returns. I believe that's what he mentioned on his show.
Avatar 4:31pm Elliott Simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm pacific standard simon:

Aaah... a loaf of wine, a jug of bread, and Todd...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@Elliott: Thanks! That footage slipped my mind. It's debated whether it's from '61 or '62.
Avatar 4:34pm Elliott Simon:

@Gaylord OK tc gtg shovel some snow
Avatar 4:34pm glenn:

hey, jimmy page produced i'm your witch doctor. i didn't know.
Avatar 4:36pm Jeezy:

Oh wow, I missed "I'm Down"?
Does everyone know that was recorded on the SAME DAY Paul recorded "Yesterday" which was... wait for it....
HIS TWENTY FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!"!:!?!:!:!::!"!!!!!
Avatar 4:41pm David Shortell:

June 18, 1963? I don't think so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: Nice job by Page, but he's no David Seville.

@Jeezy: Actually, it was recorded just short of his 23rd birthday. I would venture to guess he crooned "Yesterday" first and then commenced to shredding his tonsils on "I'm Down."
Avatar 4:44pm glenn:

The track was recorded at Abbey Road Studios on 14 June 1965, immediately following the taping of "I'm Down", and four days before McCartney's 23rd birthday. There are conflicting accounts of how the song was recorded, the most quoted one being that McCartney recorded the song by himself, without bothering to involve the other band members.
Avatar 4:46pm glenn:

well, i personally don't go along with the "jimmy page is the greatest guitarist ever" hype, but he was a truly great producer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Gaylord Fields:

That's insane! Paul must have a cast-iron throat.
Avatar 4:49pm Jeezy:

Crap, I'm so ashamed! Thanks Gaylord!
Avatar 4:50pm Jeezy:

And Glenn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm pacific standard simon:

@glenn - I'll go as far as to agree that Pagey was a welcome addition to any recording session, as a guitarist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm pacific standard simon:

This Vibrators 45 has always been a welcome addition to any jukebox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm fleep:

Great minor key song here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm fleep:

They recorded at Dick Cheney's house? Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm pacific standard simon:

Great news, Todd!
Avatar 5:05pm glenn:

"Clarabella" is a pop song composed by Frank Pingatore and recorded by the Jodimars (a group made of former members of Bill Haley & His Comets) in 1956. Today, it is best known for being recorded by the Beatles for the radio programme "Pop Go the Beatles" on 2 July 1963, which was broadcast on the 16th of that month. It was released commercially on compact disc much later, on the 1994 compilation album Live at the BBC, although years earlier a similar rendition by Billy Preston (who would later work with the Beatles on their later recordings) was performed on a 1965 episode of Shindig!. In 2003 the White Stripes recorded a performance of the song live in concert.
