Finally made it -- Hi, Irene!

The cold (no snow though!) has got me in slo-mo, and I'm way behind on about a half-dozen projects for the day. So I'll be all ears and very little hands-on today. Thanks in arrears and in advance for all the beauty you're playing for us this first Monday of 2014! HNY!
  12:23pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Kat, it's all on the news over here about the weather, if I remember you live right in the middle of the cold blast, what is the temperature with at the mo?
Avatar 12:26pm
the glowing one:

I got the cold. Not the arctic one but the one that makes your nose stuffy. Which makes me wonder if there are any recordings where the singer had a cold and you could tell...
Avatar 12:26pm
kat330:

@Sean: They predicted possibly 5-8 in. of snow (we had none already) last night, but we escaped that. We're about the southernmost portion of the Midwest, but it's still around 0-degrees. It was about 42 degrees last night at dinnertime! And then it steadily dropped in temps and kept dropping after we got up at 6 am. Still, all in all, we're very lucky.
Avatar 12:30pm
kat330:

@Sean: Just went to NOAA and it says -17 degrees C. So we're actually at 0 + 2 degrees. I feel warmer already! ;)

That's pretty chilly, Kat, I feel positively balmy here!

Hi kat, KP, Sem & the glowing one. Hope you're all keeping warm by the glow of the radio tubes (or computer hard drive, whichever is warmest). Sean, I know the WFMU documentary is nearing completion. We'll definitely post more about it when the release date comes.

@Brian in UK- was just there for Tir Na Nog (have also seen Robin Williamson there). It can get hot, very hot, but it's a friendly place where the club seems to actually like the music and the audience.

The William Tyler album that I bought last year is on my list of best music that I purchased last year...although I think it came out in 2010. Music fandom means constantly having to play catch up.

yay CHRIS! i saw him & band do a free show at living room several months ago. maybe they played this song. and it's so cute, when chris is really into a song live, he shakes his head in a "no" motion. when the show was over, he removed his guitar from against his body & there was a nice biiiig sweat stain on his shirt. a badge of honor.

YETI BOB:

2013 was a great year for acoustic guitar. Irene, the set you just played included 3 of my favorite records from last year! (GJ, WT, CJ). Great set, we're really happy to be staying inside and listening to this lovely music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Yeti Bob! I do have to agree, it was a great year for the acoustic guitar and people who use it in interesting ways.

On a side note, it seemed to be a pretty good year for classical guitarists as well from what I was able to hear around these parts on the airwaves.

Recently I ordered a MP3 download from Ora Cogan.

One of the WFMU-DJ-fav in general it seems.

@Mike, I mixed a live session with her for Soundcheck a few years ago. I know she uses a lot of looping pedals, a small mixer and a classical-style guitar with a pickup.
