This is gonna be good... Hi there Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm common:

good afternoon Irene...van.
Avatar 12:04pm v k:

one of my favorite radio programs of the year
  12:04pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hey Irene, Happy New Year one and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed the holidays. We're going to hear a sampling of my favorite music from the past year today.
  12:09pm Yair yona:

Hi Irene
  12:09pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

I agree, Van, this is going to be a cracker of a show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Mike East:

This yo la tengo album is one of the best records of the last ten year, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Mike East:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Irene Trudel:

Hi van, common, v k, Sean,Yair and Mike. Yeah, I think this'll be a good one. Hope to fit everything in. If not, I'll add honorable mentions after the show.
Avatar 12:15pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Irene. Just right for right now.
Avatar 12:20pm kat330:

Finally made it -- Hi, Irene!

The cold (no snow though!) has got me in slo-mo, and I'm way behind on about a half-dozen projects for the day. So I'll be all ears and very little hands-on today. Thanks in arrears and in advance for all the beauty you're playing for us this first Monday of 2014! HNY!
  12:23pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Kat, it's all on the news over here about the weather, if I remember you live right in the middle of the cold blast, what is the temperature with at the mo?
Avatar 12:26pm the glowing one:

I got the cold. Not the arctic one but the one that makes your nose stuffy. Which makes me wonder if there are any recordings where the singer had a cold and you could tell...
Avatar 12:26pm kat330:

@Sean: They predicted possibly 5-8 in. of snow (we had none already) last night, but we escaped that. We're about the southernmost portion of the Midwest, but it's still around 0-degrees. It was about 42 degrees last night at dinnertime! And then it steadily dropped in temps and kept dropping after we got up at 6 am. Still, all in all, we're very lucky.
Avatar 12:30pm kat330:

@Sean: Just went to NOAA and it says -17 degrees C. So we're actually at 0 + 2 degrees. I feel warmer already! ;)
  12:32pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

That's pretty chilly, Kat, I feel positively balmy here!
Avatar 12:33pm KP:

Hey. Irene. Happy New Year!
  12:33pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Irene, got an email from Tim Smith, the Director of 'Freeform or Death'. Looking positive for a release this year.
Avatar 12:34pm KP:

I'll take Freeform!
  12:36pm van:

Been waiting for that film!
  12:40pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Olivia Chaney, lovely and a great reminder to chase up the people for my ticket when she plays later this month.
  12:51pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Gorgeous set, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Irene Trudel:

Hi kat, KP, Sem & the glowing one. Hope you're all keeping warm by the glow of the radio tubes (or computer hard drive, whichever is warmest). Sean, I know the WFMU documentary is nearing completion. We'll definitely post more about it when the release date comes.
  12:51pm don d:

Sarah is at tiny Green Note in Camden, London in February. Great venue, very intimate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Brian in UK:

@don d the first time you breathe out is when you leave The Green Note.
  1:02pm don d:

@Brian in UK- was just there for Tir Na Nog (have also seen Robin Williamson there). It can get hot, very hot, but it's a friendly place where the club seems to actually like the music and the audience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Brian in UK:

Don d I wanted to see Gurf Morlix last month but he was on the same day as Lonnie Holley and I had already seen Gurf there was no contest.
  1:30pm van:

What a great set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm dale:

perfect mood music for a dreary afternoon. this set reminds me of some amazing blondel from the 'england' album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Mike East:

The William Tyler album that I bought last year is on my list of best music that I purchased last year...although I think it came out in 2010. Music fandom means constantly having to play catch up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm herb.nyc:

yay CHRIS! i saw him & band do a free show at living room several months ago. maybe they played this song. and it's so cute, when chris is really into a song live, he shakes his head in a "no" motion. when the show was over, he removed his guitar from against his body & there was a nice biiiig sweat stain on his shirt. a badge of honor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm YETI BOB:

2013 was a great year for acoustic guitar. Irene, the set you just played included 3 of my favorite records from last year! (GJ, WT, CJ). Great set, we're really happy to be staying inside and listening to this lovely music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Yeti Bob! I do have to agree, it was a great year for the acoustic guitar and people who use it in interesting ways.
  1:56pm van:

On a side note, it seemed to be a pretty good year for classical guitarists as well from what I was able to hear around these parts on the airwaves.
  2:06pm Brian:

Just great music today - thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Guido (Cologne):

Haven't heard most of the show, but find 3 albums from my own collection here on the playlist:
William Tyler (thanks to WFMU-airplay ... favourite music to work by)
Glenn Jones (via Fahey-connection ... have all his albums, better than any Cul De Sac)
Minnie Riperton (some ten years ago)
  2:24pm adam:

great tunes today, thanks
  2:24pm Mike East:

I just googled Juana Molina to try to find out any of the gear she uses and my computer crashed. Somebody wants to keep me in the dark
Avatar 2:26pm kat330:

Such a great strangeness to this track! Xenia's well-named.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Webhamster Henry:

Rebecca Martin lives nearby here in Kingston. She has a wonderful voice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Guido (Cologne):

... maybe the artst's website?
Recently I ordered a MP3 download from Ora Cogan.
She send me a download link.
The attempt to download resulted in a malware alert ... hehe

Juana Molina is the thing on the way to my collection.
One of the WFMU-DJ-fav in general it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Irene Trudel:

@Mike, I mixed a live session with her for Soundcheck a few years ago. I know she uses a lot of looping pedals, a small mixer and a classical-style guitar with a pickup.
  2:33pm van:

Yes, that Juliana Barwick is just wonderful...
Avatar 2:34pm kat330:

Let's hear it for the ladies! Great set, Irene!
Avatar 2:38pm andymorphic:

started out all scott walker
  2:40pm don d:

Bowie channels Scott Walker..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm braveness23:

B23 here! What did I miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Mike East:

@Irene - that's awesome. I was curious about the specific looping pedal(s) she uses. I've been testing out different options...thinking about a purchase...in the future.
  2:41pm don d:

andymoprhic-wrote mine before read yours--!
  2:42pm van:

B23 - several sets of awesomeness :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Guido (Cologne):

A friend of mine is adept looper (of Frippertronics generation) and produces live-looping-festivals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm abutthegreat:

Agreed, I thought I was listening to Scott Walker. And late scary Scott Walker.
Avatar 2:43pm kat330:

Bowie channeling Walker at moments; Wilson channeling Buckley at moments.
Avatar 2:46pm andymorphic:

don d channels andymorphic
Avatar 2:46pm kat330:

This IS the channel to be on all right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Guido (Cologne):

... OK, 4th abum ... saw the Cologne show.
Swag For Life Member 2:50pm 12539:

@mike, this page (2013) says she started using a Boss RC-20 Loop Station in 2004:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Mike East:

Thanks, 12539!
Avatar 2:53pm Chris from DC:

12539, the upgraded Boss RC-30 is impressive.
Avatar 2:53pm v k:

thank you for this wonderful program, Irene - will definitely listen again fireside some fine evening (via archives)
Avatar 2:56pm kat330:

Yes, this is one to revisit indeed. Thanks, Irene!
