I’m happy this sonata is for 2 clarinets. Because that is who seemed to show up for the recording session!
Avatar 8:03pm tim:

It's really wonderful.
Avatar 8:04pm ranjit:

yes, just the right number of clarinets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- it follows some bass clarinet on the previous program
...The nice thing about *this* program is - if it insults my intelligence - I can be unequivocally certain it's because it deserves it...
Avatar 8:06pm Bethany Ryker:

Now we're up to four, with barrel organ!
Avatar 8:06pm ranjit:

That may be too many clarinets. I'll reserve judgment for know.
  8:06pm JakeGould:

I like the barrel organ here. Kidding aside, very good taste for bleach Monday.
  8:07pm JakeGould:

I meant to say *BLEAGH* Monday. SEE! MONDAY!
Avatar 8:08pm ranjit:

Yeah, duh, Bleach Monday is next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- were this guy & Copland bowling partners ?
Avatar 8:11pm Bethany Ryker:

Chances are they lived in California at the same time - I'll look into it. Are you suggesting a musical association of sorts?
Avatar 8:11pm ranjit:

I'm enjoying browsing the wikipedia article about Petrushka.

"A Peasant enters with a Bear. Everyone scatters."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the Pierne reminded me of Copland, fwiw (?)...
Avatar 8:17pm Bethany Ryker:

Copland loved clarinet, I can see that connection! I'm going to investigate any Stravinsky/Copland interactions, though - good fuel for a forthcoming program!
Avatar 8:19pm ranjit:

Would it be wrong to post a link to a rival station? WQXR just posted an album of estonian folk song that would probably be of interest to music nerds like us!
Avatar 8:21pm Bethany Ryker:

Post away! I don't think of them as rivals at all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I've done it - w/ the understanding that FMU is the best station on earth which we're all spending most of our time @ ...

- My but you choose beautiful pieces.
Avatar 8:23pm ranjit:

Well ok then!

Avatar 8:24pm ranjit:

I agree with the rabbit on both points.
Avatar 8:24pm ranjit:

Hmm, if my wqxr link doesn't work, try this version: is.gd...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Ike:

The link at 8:23 worked fine for me. Thanks, Ranjit.
Avatar 8:35pm ranjit:

I thought i hated the sound of the viola organista when I saw demo videos of it, but this is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there were PBS shows in recent years that looked @ DaVinci's notebooks - & they made the argument that artists have looked @ them, but scientists less often - & he had explained a sort of whirlpool backwash action in the ventricles of the human heart that anatomists in our time have only just discovered for themselves. Has also been said that DaVinci's IQ is more or less unmeasurable - as his Genius exceeds that of anyone's who has made such a scale!: Even Einstein & Stephen Hawking characterize Genius in only one field...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& the majority of his notebooks are lost...

DaVinci invented the stop sign!

They're Mandalas.

Nobody is as smart as this kid. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 8:45pm Bethany Ryker:

Good to note on the current piece that Kagel wrote for Renaissance instruments for the sole reason of their timbre and tonality...not really to prove anything about 'period performance' or whatnot. A stark difference from the very, very refined Viola Organista!
  8:53pm JakeGould:

This Alvin Lucier is really stunning. Thanks!
Avatar 9:01pm ranjit:

goodnight and thanks for awesome music!
