Options December 11, 2013: #2 - You Think It's About You

Today on the show, you think it's about you. My friend Dustin Boyer (co-founder of the Tacocopter) recognizes a voice on the Savage Lovecast, and realizes the call was meant for him to hear. WFMU DJ Keili tells the story of dating an older musician and thinking one of his songs was about their drama. Plus, dating advice expert Holly Wood gives us her take on the challenges of singlehood, and my roommate Rose shares her first impressions of the review app Lulu.

Oh, and I call this guy I met in the bar, and ask him to give me a review for the show. He says, "I'd give you a solid B."

Listener comments!

  7:04pm JakeGould:

In life it’s best to assume nobody really cares but nobody means malice. Just don’t get in their way, and all is good. Feh!
Avatar 7:10pm Ange:

Any Savage Love fans lurking? I booked an interview with the show's producer next week... what should i ask?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm Mike Noble:

booked with the producer or with Savage himself?
  7:12pm JakeGould:

Not a fan of Dan Savage, but he’s cool. Ask the producer… Hmmm…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Mike Noble:

well you most definitely have to talk about this segment
  7:14pm P-90:

@Ange: ask about the now-popular sexual slang term Mr. Savage coined from ex-senator Rick Santorum's name.
Avatar 7:15pm Ange:

It's with the producer... I want to find out what it's like to hear ALL THE CALLS. If I know anything from WFMU and public radio, not all the calls make the cut!
  7:16pm P-90:

OK, the call-screening question is a good one to start with.
  7:17pm Danne D:

hi andrea congrats on the full time slot :) i like the Joe Frankesque musical segways btw
  7:18pm JakeGould:

Ange, now that you say that now we all want to hear what WFMU calls don’t make the cut! *bing*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Mike Noble:

i want to know if DS will do another dinner table debate. I enjoyed the first and only episode. It was so magically uncomfortable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Mike Noble:

7:19pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Obviously it's made up. No one would listen to a musician named "Rivers."
  7:21pm JakeGould:

I am not watching a 1+ hour debate on a topic I agree with that has no stakes on the line.
  7:22pm P-90:

Sea Creatures sounds like a real band name, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Mike Noble:

I saw "Sea Creatures" last year in DC. I thought they all looked like they had just graduated college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Mike Noble:

@JakeGould: I find it useful to know the enemy sometimes. I like hearing the arguments they try to make, especially when they're challenged.
Avatar 7:22pm Ange:

Pete from Boston - you are totally right. Though the guy acts like a dude named "Rivers" in this story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Mike Noble:

That's not a joke either, I figured out what band they're talking about. I saw them open for a band I booked on Seven Second Delay. They were alright. I bought their cassette.
  7:24pm P-90:

She probably made up Sea Creatures but didn't check to see if there was a real band with that dumb name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Mike Noble:

Yeah, this song's on the cassette!
  7:25pm P-90:

Kelli dated Flea? Far out, man
7:27pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I like this show.
  7:28pm P-90:

THIS song is on the cassette? Sure? I thought she changed his name AND the band's to be discreet. Why bother to change his name if anyone can look him up by checking out the band on the web...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Mike Noble:

@Pete, if you log in with your wfmu account you can literally "like" this show. And this episode. And this host.
Avatar 7:29pm kevin g:

This guy sounds like a winner.
  7:30pm JakeGould:

P-90, the vast majority of bands have dumb members & dumb names. But if they sound good, suddenly it’s all acceptable. makes you think!
Avatar 7:30pm Ange:

Yip Yip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Mike Noble:

@JakeGould - the actual band name is so much dumber than "Sea Creatures."
  7:31pm JakeGould:

Ange, did this guy say he would “ping” you later?
  7:32pm Noah:

MEE MAW! Hay! This is great. Clean rural smell! Fantastic!
  7:32pm JakeGould:

I want a rural spring day hay cologne appropriate for someone of my size.
Avatar 7:33pm Jeff:

"A clean, rural smell."

"Kinda stumpy."

Avatar 7:33pm kevin g:

This is truly amazing.
  7:33pm Fredericks:

I don't like that. Especially in a woman.

Andrea: Congratulations on making it to the front podcast page of iTunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Mike Noble:

I wonder what's wrong with Ange's hosting
Avatar 7:34pm Austarr:

I just got busted chortling in the office.
Avatar 7:34pm Fredericks:

Run, girl, run!
Avatar 7:34pm George:

this interview is bizarre!
Avatar 7:34pm Stumpy:

@Jake - I don't actually remember anything other than saying "I want to interview you for my radio show!" and putting him in my phone. The thing you guys can't tell from this call is that he's REALLY HANDSOME.
Avatar 7:35pm _crazyandy_______________________________:

ahahaha, this guy
  7:35pm Danne D:

you met a wurster character?
7:35pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I praise your willingness to suffer this ignominy for the sake of good radio. Ken and Andy have been an excellent influence on you.
  7:35pm thatsyourtrouble:

Could anyone really be this much of a tool? Do you think he was doing a character because he was going to be on the radio?
  7:35pm bob:

This guy is a royal a-hole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Mike Noble:

@davex - hey look at that, front page!
  7:36pm quinn:

OMG this guy is a diiiiiiiiick
Avatar 7:36pm Ange:

Yes! Here's where you get the podcast in iTunes! itunes.apple.com...
  7:37pm P-90:

This dude she's interviewing sounds like Wurster doing a comedy call on the Best Show, is anyone really that douchey?
  7:37pm PJ:

This is hilarious. Did he hide all of his insightful opinions when you met him?
  7:37pm JakeGould:

Ange, you have to be serious. This is New York. You are a woman. This guy might be a REALLY HANDSOME, but he sounds like a douche.
  7:38pm P-90:

@Danne: you beat me to it. What a schmuck! But he was "handsome"
Avatar 7:39pm Ange:

My oh my! The show's the iTunes podcast page under New and Noteworthy! Eee! Thank you guys for telling me about this! I might start crying (not related to this interview)
  7:39pm P-90:

The creepier he gets, the more patient with him she becomes
  7:39pm thatsyourtrouble:

No, do not call yourself Stumpy even in jest! I hope you have the good sense to ignore everything this guy said. The fact that he has a political chip on his shoulder seems to inform his entire attitude/personality.
7:40pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

  7:40pm quinn:

Avatar 7:41pm _crazyandy_______________________________:

This guy is not serious.
7:41pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

This is the best radio show of ever.
  7:42pm quinn:

Wait, now I'm thinking this guy can't possibly be for real.
  7:42pm JakeGould:

Handsome called himself Stumpy. Screw this guy. Ask him to put together an RFP before any date.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm LilyAbigale:

heartbreak when stupid is gorgeous
  7:43pm P-90:

This is EXACTLY like a Wurster bit! He must be being willfully outrageously creepy, he can't be sincere.
  7:44pm P-90:

Keili: "are we role-playing right now?"
  7:44pm Danne D:

waiting to hear 'oh no' ala wurster
  7:44pm PJ:

Ok, you had me going up until the Jack the Ripper thing. But I'd love to hear more of this radio fiction stuff - the writing is great.
  7:44pm thatsyourtrouble:

@P-90, I was thinking the same thing.
  7:45pm JakeGould:

James Carville is so my role model. Everyone else who is in a relationship is shit. James Carville. That guy. BOOM!
Avatar 7:45pm kevin g:

In all "fairness," I do have the impression this guy is trying to "game," with his use of insults and other weird things that he says and his general pathetic behavior.
  7:45pm JakeGould:

Yappy, demanding, stumpy. Yappy, demanding, stumpy. Yappy, demanding, stumpy. Okay, this sounds fake.
  7:46pm quinn:

I don't know what just happened but it was amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm davex:

Ange: I just happened to see the iTunes thing before and wondered if you knew about it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm SeanG:

this dude is insane
  7:46pm P-90:

"I'm writing a book about Jack the Ripper. Wanna know what it's called?" sounds just like Wurster.
  7:46pm earrie:

Yep, loud bars cast a fog.
7:47pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I cannot be compelled to care if he is fake, this is so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Mike Noble:

Example of how little Andrea knows about sports. She seriously asked me "What's the name of the Philadelphia baseball team?" while sitting underneath my Phillies 2008 World Series Champion banner.
  7:48pm P-90:

"I'm yappy, I'm demanding": don't EVER say that. Ever.
Avatar 7:51pm Andrea:

BRB taking screenshots of the iTunes podcast page
  7:51pm P-90:

"Could we do this somewhere other than Quizno's next time?"
Avatar 7:53pm Ange:

Do any of you use Lulu, or have Lulu anxiety? I'm happy to facebook friend you and write you positive reviews if you need them. In exchange, I just need some iTunes reviews....
  7:55pm P-90:

"his dimples?" I'm preparing to vomit
Avatar 7:55pm Austarr:

I didn't know I had Lulu Anxiety until you brought it up.
Avatar 7:56pm George:

just want to say never heard this show before and really enjoyed it!
Avatar 7:57pm The Guz "Slim Pickins":

this is great
  7:57pm P-90:

OMG! PURE Wuster!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm sinister dexter:

  7:59pm dexter sinster:

  7:59pm listener scott:

  7:59pm thatsyourtrouble:

Congrats on being "New and Noteworthy". Well-deserved--another great show!
