Options Brian Turner: Playlist from December 3, 2013 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:11pm Cecile:

I always liked Gene's voice better than Paul. Can't explain why. Paul's the better singer. I like Ace's best.

this kiss track sounds great. BT rules.

one of the best compilations of hard rock ever.
Avatar 3:13pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeez that was strange. Probably haven't heard that Kiss tune since I was twelve.
Avatar 3:14pm jljl:

Never heard of Horisont but it's awesome. Guitar makes me think of Thin Lizzy a little.
  3:15pm Ted:

Hearing that Kiss tune just threw me back in time to older brothers with feathered back hair and the smell of Body On Tap! Shivers!
Avatar 3:15pm Cecile:

the singer is getting on my nerves.
A little close to power metal territory.

@fuzzy: I can't get my animated gifs to move, either. I gave up on the idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Fuzzy:

@Carmichael: yeah, me too -- my tech-guru status is hereby revoked. Cheri knows the secret, but she ain't talkin'...
Avatar 4:11pm Cheri Pi:

The Gifs are still in beta phase I believe- so a few people are using them first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Fuzzy:

@Cheri: ah, I see...strange nonetheless. Yours move on your profile page too, mine only if you click on them. Guess I'm not worthy.
Avatar 4:17pm Fred22120:

I love this musical research !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- wull - only certain people who've Pledged @ a certain higher level are getting the animated gifs, is my understanding. People are perhaps trying to be modest. @ a higher level still, you can stop other people's gifs - & a higher level to restart them, & so on...
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

hey, do I get a GIF?
Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

okay, I'm out of here. the keening is getting to me and I have no plastic cup handy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- e'res two & yer can put 'em on each ear for the duration: ☖☖...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Carmichael:

Ya Cecile, I've pledged at a VERY high level over the years. 1st I've heard of that.
Avatar 4:22pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile, you probably get to be a GIf master.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...&/or - it's just a Sociological Experiment disguised as a FreeForm station to see how we all react...
Avatar 4:25pm PKNY:

Nice move with the Scorpions! Michael Schenker kills it on this record, 16 year old and nailing Iommi leads and tone.
  4:26pm Mott:

that Keoma was the bomb...
Avatar 4:26pm Cheri Pi:

My pledges are legendary. LOL. SCORPS!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

who made this setlist, Lene Lovich?
Avatar 4:33pm andymorphic:

thanks dc chris, ordering now
Avatar 4:37pm Lopez:

Viva Gowanus!
Avatar 4:38pm PKNY:

@Brian - according to Wikipedia, "Lonesome Crow" was recorded October 1971, and Schenker's birthday is January 1955.

Saying you are better than The Beatles is Blasphemy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Carmichael:

Saying you're bigger than God is also blasphemy. Just sayin' ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Carmichael:

Oh by the way Cheri, my next band will be called Brain Trainer.
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

this is awesome. Teddy Riley produced boy band secretly wants to be Funkadelic...www.youtube.com...
  4:50pm paula pc:

oh. why...
Avatar 4:51pm Cheri Pi:

This goes out to my 10 yr old self who was babysitting and watching GH when Reagan was shot.
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

oh, who didn't want to be in Funkadelic?
Avatar 4:52pm Cheri Pi:

C- lemme know if you're unable to find a sleazy manager for your next project.
Avatar 4:52pm Cecile:

Sounds good, Cheri.
  4:52pm marc:

GH fan here! I remember those stories and this song.
  4:55pm paula pc:

cheri pi, i was that exact same person except i was 12 and not babysitting
Avatar 5:05pm northguineahills:

RIP Bernard Parmegiani
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Carmichael:

Yikes, I was in the worst possible place ever when Reagan was shot: on the edge of the Persian Gulf watching the news come across a cryptograph machine. Staring at Iran and my head honcho all shot up.
Avatar 5:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

The cruel dichotomy of life, in summary:
1. Yay, employment!
2. Boo, meeting taketh away wfmu
3. Yay, back.
4. Boo, uh, just boo in general. For balance.
Avatar 5:15pm Lopez:

Al Bilali Soudan is top-notch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Reagan attempt hardly a blip on my memory; I just wonder why people shooting @ Liberals always have supernatural aim & marksmanship, & people shooting @ Conservatives can't hit the broad side of a barn @ pointblank range...
Avatar 5:18pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Being a DC local, I recall the shooting mostly just meant blocked access to Dupont Circle for a while & a new place to take visiting friends (the Hinckley Hilton)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...presumably no Jodie Foster's Army today...
Avatar 5:22pm northguineahills:

I was only 5 in pre-school, but I remember it well, as my mother was freaking out, and she had the news on all evening.
Avatar 5:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...and of course a short drive to the suburbs and you can see the spot where George Wallace was shot. A different kind of tourist attraction, these...
  5:25pm paula pc:

Sonic did this using pieces of electrical tape pivoting over the keys. Cheri P, I saw them do this at Sudsy Malone's! A brooding Sonic to the crowd: "You just want to get your washing done, eh."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was surprised by the # of attempts :
- but then again, not. What surprises me really is that someone doesn't pull a Timothy McVey & just leave a big crater & disappear - but they all want to be famous, it seems...
Avatar 5:31pm northguineahills:

Awesome spacemen!
Avatar 5:50pm Lopez:

Nice numbers groove.
I remember Reagan getting shot only barely (I was all of 7 years old). I do remember Carter as president, and Reagan being inaugurated coinciding with the release of the Iran hostages; easily my first political memories
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- hostage deal goes down *precisely* the moment Reagan became President.

- My goodness what a great show BT.
Avatar 5:58pm northguineahills:

Awesome, Brian!
  6:00pm Brian Turner:

thanks all, have a great week.
