Avatar 9:01pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, friends and neighbors.
Avatar 9:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Good evening sir. I trust you're doing well.
Swag For Life Member 9:03pm 12539:

Evening, Contemporaries.
Avatar 9:03pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, Mr. Druid. Yeah, not bad, thanks.
Avatar 9:04pm Dave Mandl:

Greetings, 12539.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Always glad to be here.
...Last time in my 40s !...
Swag For Life Member 9:08pm 12539:

Happy upcoming birthday, Mr Rabbit.
Avatar 9:08pm Dave Mandl:

@DLBRRN63: Congrats! The 50s are much better--so I've heard.
  9:08pm bloopy:

hey dave mandl!
Avatar 9:09pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, bloopy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...I'm mentally five (birth-order baby, &tc.) - so can't relate to the decimal displacement whatsoever...
Swag For Life Member 9:11pm 12539:

I'm looking forward to hearing Mr Mandl pronounce this artist's name.
Avatar 9:12pm Dave Mandl:

I may never go on mic.
Swag For Life Member 9:15pm 12539:

Well, that was a good first stretch of the program. I hope the final stretch can follow suit.
  9:16pm sweet cheri:

hi there dave, what kind of show do you have in store for us tonight?
Avatar 9:16pm Droll:

I most enjoy when he butchers some Eastern European name with lots of accents and no vowels, using his impeccable Brooklyn accent with the jazz DJ upturn at the end.
Avatar 9:17pm Dave Mandl:

Hey Cheri. No idea.
Avatar 9:18pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Glad I've been able to pull that off successfully!
  9:19pm sweet cheri:

well i bet it'll be a killer show dave, btw long time no see!! how you been?
Avatar 9:26pm Dave Mandl:

Why thanks, cheri. Doing pretty well. And you?
  9:30pm sweet cheri:

dave i'm doing real good myself,,i just love the fall, don't you?
Avatar 9:32pm Droll:

I hope he does a peaceful show featuring lots of Rock-In-Opposition and maybe some Itallian prog band singing in Latin. But I know there's a 2% rule, so it can never be.
  9:34pm sweet cheri:

i think fall is a beautiful season with the clear brisk air, what do you think dave?
Avatar 9:36pm Dave Mandl:

@cheri: Naturally I thought you meant the band. Yeah, I love fall here in NY, though I've got nothing against the band or the novel.
Avatar 9:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Heard this Tawny Night track by F.Bayle for the first time earlier this week (can't remember the FMU show at this point, it's all a blur) -- mind blown permanently. A gorgeous piece.
  9:43pm sweet cheri:

well dave i got to head out for a while, but i'll be back on the board a little later,, and sorry for the misunderstanding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Tome:

Fall evening and the Sunset here in brooklyn just Sep Tac U Lar !!!! and so is the show Dave now that I'm inside finally radio on nose warming up a bit too !! ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Tome:

.... Spec Tac U Lar ( that is ) ...
Avatar 9:51pm Droll:

Undisputed?!?! I will dispute which KC lineup was best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm common:

thanks for the info and great music dave
Avatar 9:53pm Dave Mandl:

@Tome: Thanks. Yes, lovely day today, and I'm sure it's just as lovely out there tonight. This is arguably the best time of year here in NY.
Avatar 9:54pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: I won't stop you. That's exactly the kind of freedom our founding fathers fought for.
Avatar 9:54pm Dave Mandl:

@common: Thanks. My pleasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm G:

Lineup debates about defunct rock bands are specifically enumerated as a right in Madison's earliest draft of the Constitution.
Avatar 9:57pm Droll:

Now that you mention it, I'm sure Jefferson would agree 81-84 in the studio, 73-74 live.
Avatar 9:58pm Dave Mandl:

@G: Thank you. At last, we've got a Constitutional scholar here!
Avatar 9:59pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: This is exactly why I have no respect for Jefferson.
Avatar 9:59pm Droll:

But KC is not defunct, 2014 tour: www.dgmlive.com...
Avatar 10:00pm The_Use_Music:

Man, Dave Thank you for tonight's show! Was loving it in the car...that more abstract thing in the beginning, followed by that bluesy experimental stuff. Gold
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm G:

Now that Yes was nominated to the RRHOF, the Yes diehards are back to having the *exact* same drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, etc. debates they were having when I got in the WWW in the early 90s, and who they think should and should not appear on stage. Counting their chickens.
Avatar 10:00pm MDurek:

Oh So Blue...that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm G:

A band that has had as many cumulative years broken up as KC gets to call themselves defunct, even when they're on tour. :-)
Avatar 10:02pm Dave Mandl:

@T_U_M: It's our pleasure to serve you.
Avatar 10:02pm Droll:

G, Then all 73 members of Yes get to perform in the 90 minute song they play for their RRHoF induction.
Avatar 10:03pm Dave Mandl:

Dead and alive: I guess Crimson can technically be called zombies, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm G:

Exactly, Droll. And KC cant be defunked when they never had any funk in the first place :)
Avatar 10:07pm Droll:

I believe Yes already has a history of touring with two completely different Yeses on one stage. Prog audiences simply refuse to act confounded. Indeed, this is how we ended up at FMU listening to Mandl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm G:

Speaking of Zombies, they are on the fan poll for induction.

Speaking of non-band zombies, have you seen Howe or Squire recently? The South Amer Spanish-Ports-language Yes list members have been calling Howe Caveira (Skull) for 20 years or more.
Avatar 10:09pm Mdurek:

Is there a band called "Defunkt Project" ? Cause, there should be
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm G:

Yes, the infamous Union tour, Droll, circa 1990. When Howe supposedly had someone on crew lock Rabin in his dressing room for awhile. I just love those Yes lyrics about universal love, huh?
Avatar 10:11pm duke:

This is good set. By that I mean I'm enjoying it.
  10:13pm Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Dave and all the listeners.
Avatar 10:14pm glassslacks:

Terrifically interesting show Dave.
Avatar 10:15pm Mdurek:

Very pretty (my wife agrees)
Swag For Life Member 10:20pm 12539:

Dave M, what did you do to the playlist table?
Avatar 10:21pm Droll:

12..., I like Dave's name for the song because that's how it sounds: regular spacing, aesthetically pleasing framework.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm G:

He set the table. :p
Avatar 10:23pm Droll:

Howe = Skull is soooo true! Glad it's not just me.

Gee, the whole playlist thing seems to be running amok (delays, too?). I wonder if Kenzo is 'spearamintin'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm G:

Get ready for a long set of white noise, 12539?
Swag For Life Member 10:26pm 12539:

I was thinking John Cage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Ike:

Wow! Playlist blankness explosion. Cool.
Avatar 10:28pm Mdurek:

@G, Seems a lot tidier, I like it! uber post post minimalist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm G:

easy reading, too...
Avatar 10:33pm stray teepee:

I particularly like the pictures.
Avatar 10:37pm Mdurek:

The easiest way to organize things, is to get rid of everything! :D
  10:37pm trish:

..where a blanked playlist is better than _____.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm common:

environmemtal mechanical orc is so amazing to me
Avatar 10:41pm scentymint endstinks:

Daaaaavve, DAAAVVVE!....Turn down that noise! You'll wake the neighbors. :)
Avatar 10:41pm Droll:

The best part of the pictures he posted is the smell: They're Scratch-N-Sniff!
Avatar 10:42pm Whooda:

I thought I smelled burnt machine oil
Avatar 10:45pm Hellameye:

This is a five senses radio show if I can just figure out what this flavor is..
Avatar 10:47pm Peeinest:

Got it! Taste like chicken!
Avatar 10:48pm Droll:

Smelly tongues looked just as they felt.
Avatar 10:49pm nutritious noodle:

Felt tongue sounds like a wicked case of cotton mouth.
Avatar 10:49pm Dave Mandl:

You all playing nicely over here?
  10:50pm sweet cheri:

dave are you going to be playing any halloween tunes on next week's show?
Avatar 10:53pm Droll:

Oh sure, like I'm gonna sit through 5 minutes of Hancock, Hubbard, Carter, and Williams... Whatever, I'm going to make dinner.
Avatar 10:53pm Dave Mandl:

@cheri: Probably not. It's Singles Going Steady Week, so it'll be three hours of singles.
Avatar 10:53pm Mdurek:

I've got a slew of theremin music for ya if so LOL
  10:54pm sweet cheri:

that's cool,, thnx dave.
Avatar 10:56pm Dave Mandl:

@Mdurek: Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on that.
Avatar 10:57pm Mdurek:

:P singles sounds fun too !
  10:59pm sweet cheri:

Hello Dave!

starred :"Cemalim" by Erkin Koray from Elektronic Turkuler
Avatar 11:05pm MDurek:

Checking out too...lookin forward to next week. Danke!
Avatar 11:07pm Who Whore:

HH Headhunters all time classic work
Avatar 11:07pm Droll:

Album credits, particularly in the incestuous world of jazz, is difficult: musicbrainz.org...
Avatar 11:12pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, Kitty. Thanks for the star.
Avatar 11:15pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Ha. Well, that may be a reasonable way to store the information in a database, but people trying to read liner notes shouldn't have to deal with that mess.
Avatar 11:19pm Droll:

Claude Shannon told me to tell you the booklet would be the size of a phone book if they don't encode efficiently.
Personally, I feel your pain, I'm not a machine.
Avatar 11:20pm eye mate:

I hear a sneeze coming on, no wait, it's a fart..no, no..it's a honker!
Avatar 11:24pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Not sure Shannon has to do with it. This isn't about information theory, it's about liner notes on jazz records.
Avatar 11:33pm Droll:

Hey, I feel your pain, but they can only stuff so much in a CD case, it's not like the online playlist where you can just add 30 blank lines for free. I doubt they did it because it was easier, they made it a puzzle because there wasn't space to it all write out and still fit it inside the CD case.

...or it's a conspiracy.
Avatar 11:35pm Dave Mandl:

Or they're bad interface designers.
Avatar 11:35pm Toasty Tong:

It's a test. If you have the patience to decipher the puzzle then you have the patience to listen to jazz.
Swag For Life Member 11:41pm 12539:

This is the most somber mint cake I've ever experienced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm ! I X Key !:

Avatar 11:44pm Droll:

Interface design? It doesn't even have a Scratch-N-Sniff!
Avatar 11:46pm KP:

Hey, Dave!
Avatar 11:46pm stray richochet:

I don't think you want to smell a hot Herbie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm fleep:

What artist would you like to smell?
Avatar 11:49pm 18 to 20:

I would like to scratch and sniff St. Vincent.
Avatar 11:51pm Droll:

That's a surprisingly hard question. Let me stink on it, I'll let you know next Sunday.
Avatar 11:53pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Blankety blank blame goes to Amazon.
Swag For Life Member 11:54pm 12539:

And I thought it was due to The So-Called Laws Of Nature.
Avatar 11:54pm Droll:

Hi Kenzo! Did you see what my latest regexp can do? Mwahahahah!!!
Avatar 11:55pm KP:

i liked that cassette. too bad my boom box did not make the move.
Avatar 11:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Stay away from me with your wildcard globbing.
Swag For Life Member 11:57pm 12539:

Thanks as always, Mr Mandl.
Avatar 11:57pm Hem Length:

@Kenzo Amazon is in a class action lawsuit for stealing from its employees. Up to and over 20 minutes a day for unpaid time while they are searched entering, out for lunch and clock-out at end of day.
Avatar 11:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I am surprised they didn't outsource the searches to Mechanical Turck.
Avatar 11:59pm Droll:

Thanks Dave, and I'll think about what you said, but I'm still coming back next week.
Avatar 11:59pm Scentymint:

Or just force them all to work naked.
Avatar 11:59pm Dave Mandl:

Night, everyone. And thanks, as usual. And please ignore the blanks.
Avatar 12:00am Dave Mandl:

What a bunch of geeks. No talking about regex on my playlist, OK?
Avatar 12:01am Whooda Hellameye:

thanks Dave for the soundtrack of my life.
Avatar 12:01am Droll:

All prog next week, I promise.
