Hiya, Joe and good morning to you and all. Nothing stirs the blood in Nova Scotia like the skirl of the pipes first thing in the day.

I was thinking the same thing SeanG!

Morning Joe! Please go to WFMU tomorrow. I haven't seen you in so long! xo

FTR - "The Walrus" is a killer pipes number IMHO. This isnt the greatest version, the the quickest I could find....

Avatar 9:15am Joe McG:

Hey, everybody! Hope you're feeling good! @Michele: I'm going to try! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am SeanG:

@Meghan-- Totally! those intro bagpipes are ingrained in my brain
  9:23am trs:

In Nova Scotia, you can find individuals practicing their pipes outward to the sea as if on some Scottish moor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am KevinfromBayRidge:

G'Morning Joe & McGaskoers, Need these pipes on such a gray day. Have to think about the performance space!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Parq:

Who's show gets you complaints from the neighbors?
Avatar 9:25am Joe McG:

Yay, I hope mine!

@Michele: Ha ha! Always a crowdpleaser. @Parq: I like it!
Avatar 9:35am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Bagpipes reproduce in relative seclusion, preferring the cover of darkness. Perhaps a votive candle, for effect.

Avatar 10:32am Cecile:

yup, that's How The West Was Won.
Avatar 10:33am Cecile:

Great DVD. Much better than The Song Remains the Same. That's a turgid movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am tim from champaign:

This weekend I'm DJing a wedding. I've got a bit of a technical dilemma which you guys might be able to help with. The groom requested for the last song of the night to be a slow jam being Prince's "Purple Rain" and then follow it up with "I Would Die 4 U" to send things out.

So how can I seamlessly go from "Purple Rain" to "I Would Die 4 U"? The catch is I'm spinning vinyl only and only have one copy of the Purple Rain LP. There would be a few seconds of awkwardness while I cued up "I Would Die 4 U" and that would kill momentum.
Avatar 10:35am Cecile:

Everyone will be too drunk to care, Tim.
Is this the guy who wanted Frankie Teardrop at the reception?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Parq:

At least it isn't actually Billy Joel. I can overlook a lot when it comes to Ronnie.
Avatar 10:38am Cecile:

I actually like some early Billy Joel.
I'd rather listen to Billy Joel than Styx or Kansas in a heartbeat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am tim from champaign:

Avatar 11:01am Whosondephone:

I was going to say the production sounded like the moody blues. I didn't think the band sounded like them though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Mike East:

@JoeMcG - The great tunes are just an added benefit.
Avatar 11:02am Brian in UK:

.....and John Lodge.
Denny Laine had the voice. Remember buying Go Now when it came out.
Avatar 11:03am herb.nyc:

single file is a 30min segment? if so, then i guess it's too late to request BManilow's "weakened in new england". for some reason, i'm really in the mood to hear it (I was a fan, back then)
Avatar 11:04am Cecile:

this lea roberts is incredible.
Avatar 11:05am dale:

was that a B side to the story in your eyes? most of every good boy was average at best, except someone - maybe julie in the overnight - played 'my song' once. pinder did some great melotron stuff.
Avatar 11:07am dale:

that's odd -the a side from seventh sojourn and the b side from every good boy deserves favour? was that commonplace back in the day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Mike Noble:

did zaine griff and kate bush take a spin class together or something?
Avatar 11:09am Cecile:

Avatar 11:21am herb.nyc:

joe, i just emailed you something that kris kristofferson wrote, about john prime. it's very sweet.
Avatar 11:21am Joe McG:

@Stevel: I wasn't going to play "Hello in There" since it reduces me to tears, but I cued it wrong and got it anyway. Boo hoo!
Avatar 11:21am Joe McG:

@herb: Thanks, Herb!
Avatar 11:22am Brian in UK:

Produced by Steve Goodman. He was a Good Man.
Avatar 11:23am Joe McG:

I could play John Prine for 3 hours, but I'll keep it to a handful. We'll do "Angel" another day, Cecile. What a song.
Avatar 11:24am duke:

@Joe, @Stevel that song always does that to me also.
Avatar 11:24am herb.nyc:

well since brian mentioned STEVE GOODMAN, what i sent joe was a story of how steve got kris (and others?) to hear john sing. (that's the simplified version)
Avatar 11:25am dale:

when i hear hello in there i also wanna hear 16th avenue by lacy j dalton. not quite as sad, but just as lonely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Stevel:

"She gets it on like the Easter Bunny" helps dry the tears, of melancholy at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Parq:

Herb, that would, I'm guessing, be the occasion that prompted Kristoferson to say of Prine, "He's so good we might have to break his fingers."
Avatar 11:27am herb.nyc:

aside: i got an IRIS DEMENT cassette for 25cents at library. liner notes had her write so lovingly of her ultra-religious father who had a guitar mounted on the wall, but no one was allowed to play it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am KevinfromBayRidge:

Prine & Dement! Talk about a deadly duo!
Avatar 11:27am KP:

Prine is def a guy you get nervous about when you hear a few in a row.
Avatar 11:30am Brian in UK:

@Kevin Ain't that the truth.
Avatar 11:30am dale:

oh man this duet is good. there was a great display of porter's wagonmaster outfits at the grand ole opry when i stopped in there in the 80s
Avatar 11:31am KP:

I had a friend at work who was a recording artist. I told her i saw Nancy Griffith at Carnegie Hall and loved it. Nancy was the opener. She asked who the headliner was and i said John Prine, but i never cared for him and walked out. She said, John Prine signed me, and walked out of the room.

Avatar 11:39am herb.nyc:

@parq - the fingers remark was *not* in the 1 page thingy from liner notes (to what record? can't recall.)
Avatar 11:39am KP:

Oops, "Nanci." I also used to be big fan of Iris Dement. I got a Christmas card her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Parq:

Herb, I just remember reading that quote the first time Rolling Stone wrote about Prine in the early 70s. God, the things we remember when we can't even remember what we came into the room for.
