Options Brian Turner: Playlist from October 8, 2013 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:08pm northguineahills:

about as close I got to NZ was seeing Gate two weeks ago.
  3:10pm Derek:

Whoa, where did Gate play?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm tim from champaign:

Good to hear you again, BT. There was speculation on the board (I won't name names) that you'd permanently flown the coop in Oz and were plowing fields with the Cosmic Psychos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm efd:

This safety film is pretty fantastic. Welcome back, Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Richard Simmon's resemblance to a koala apparently not lost to NZers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm steve:

welcome back BT! is that Bruce Russell i see on the top right?
Avatar 3:12pm kirk from beer city usa:

  3:14pm adam_nspy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Mike East:

Avatar 3:14pm Aurélie E:

ur show is so early
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm efd:

Mike East, I think the question is why NOT Richard Simmons?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm DCE:

exactly, efd!
Avatar 3:16pm kirk from beer city usa:

scott did a good job!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Mike East:

Avatar 3:19pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

  3:19pm speck:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ditto kirk 3:16.
Avatar 3:21pm northguineahills:

Gate played at Union Pool in Brooklyn, w/ Tom Carter & Marcia Bassett opening.
Avatar 3:21pm Brian Turner:

Yep, Bruce Russell hang on his home turf in Lyttleton! He gave me some rekkids for FMU too!
Avatar 3:22pm northguineahills:

welcome back Brian! (jealous)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 3:28pm kirk from beer city usa:

how much money did you spend on records, brian?
Avatar 3:30pm Brian Turner:

The question is how much to ship them, guh
Avatar 3:32pm PKNY:

Man, Chuck Biscuits is ruling so hard on this.
Avatar 3:32pm kirk from beer city usa:

my secret is to pack light on the way out and pack cleverly on the way back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DCE:

yeah, man, leave your clothes there, you can get new clothes, bring the records HOME!
Avatar 3:39pm holland oats:

<-- hey brian, shelley wants to know how deep you dove
Avatar 3:42pm Brian Turner:

70' nitrox for two one hour dives -- the French pros on board were nonplussed by my speedy trip thru my guage (sharks flying around everywhere helped that) but I handled it!) You and Shelley should go there dude...
Avatar 3:42pm Brian Turner:

tho water-wise its prolly like yr Hawaii trip
Avatar 3:47pm holland oats:

heh that's awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Carmichael:

BT returns to the fold! Hope you enjoyed the kiwis.
  4:01pm tim from champaign:

The 2 80s Italian HC bands I know of, CCM and Raw Power, were pretty noisy and unhinged like Fottutissima.
Avatar 4:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Holy magical crap, this Leo Bulgariloves thing is the business.
  4:06pm MM:

Wow, didn't know you came to NZ! Hope you had a great time here!
Avatar 4:07pm Cecile:

They treated him like a national hero! He was on the radio and errrything.
Avatar 4:08pm Cecile:

Now, did you hang out with members of Supernaut and Molly Meldrum like I commanded?
Avatar 4:08pm Brian Turner:

Yeh MM --- great time, though I forgot to bring a winter coat and Auckland, Welly and Chch were pretty freezin' still so picked one up, haha. But you peops are splendid indeed. And I had my first earthquake! 5.3 in Wellington.
Avatar 4:08pm Brian Turner:

They were hiding, though I did find the Supernaut LP in Melbourne cheap.
Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

noice! Any Skyhooks sightings?
Avatar 4:10pm neither:

leo bulgariloves is wonderul, oh fuck i cant get this mp3 anywhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

RTD - do you check TpSP (Transpacific Sound Paradise) on Saturdays FMU? Bitchin' World Music.
...5.3 is noticeable. In Southern California - on the backpage of the newspapers they have the tremor maps all the time like they do the weather everywhere else...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh RTD - I may have Delayed Playlist syndrome...
Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

3RRR is amazing.
Avatar 4:13pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Aye, Rabbit63: My little freakout was in re: the Ektro psych nastiness. But the Saharan track was a total groove. TpSP isn't at a good time for me to hear live, so I dip sneaky-feet into archives...
Avatar 4:14pm neither:

oh Brian, it is spelled Leo Bugariloves, without the L after U
Avatar 4:15pm neither:

Avatar 4:15pm Brian Turner:

Gotcha! Thanx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Carmichael:

I love full-on screaming metal. Top o'your lungs, dude!!
Avatar 4:17pm Cecile:

this is the new alan duchin band?
Avatar 4:18pm Brian Turner:

Yep Dubin on vox - ex-Khanate, OLD
Avatar 4:18pm Brian Turner:

their second LP though
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

what was the best thing you ate or drank there?
Avatar 4:25pm Brian Turner:

Hmmmmm, I was down with Spiceiam in Surrey Hill, Sydney --- Thai excellence beyond ---- I stayed in Marrickville and had great Viet - in Tahiti I got pretty enamoured of the vanilla-y Tahitian ginger sauce they put on seafood and gotta figure out how to make it.
Avatar 4:29pm Cecile:

any TV shows, bands or movies that could bear looking into before they storm over here?
Avatar 4:30pm Brian Turner:

Well, hang tight, I'm about to do a set of Oz stuff we picked up...
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

soudns good!
  4:41pm Pat in Philadelphia:

Anybody in Sacred Product also in the Satanic Rockers? Sounds similar-ish. Sounds awesome!
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

did you get a chance to talk to feedtime again?
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

this stuff sounds great. Like the Fungus Brains.
Avatar 5:02pm Cecile:

how did you find the people in the clubs?

FRATERNITY!!!!! That was his big band before AC/DC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Pat in Philadelphia:

Thanks for the confirmation! I'm gonna keep an eye out for that Sacred Product record. Sounded great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm barney.grubbs:

we visited cousins in the north of Ireland around 1988 and some 5th cousin in a denim jacket with a big Saxon patch on the back asked: "Yer from America? Do you know Bon Jovi?"
I'm glad the fascination is still out there.
Avatar 5:09pm Cecile:

ah, ed kuepper.
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

I have this EP.
Someone sold them in Ann Arbor!
Avatar 5:14pm Chris from DC:

What Cecile said.
Avatar 5:15pm Cecile:

Australia has some ridiculously talented horn players playing rock music
Avatar 5:15pm Cecile:

Kuepper's voice took a LONG time to get used to, though.
Avatar 5:23pm Cecile:

you should do a loop of "I want your money" from that...
Avatar 5:23pm Cecile:

You said his name right!
Avatar 5:24pm Andrea:

We have a few great Furchick tracks over on the FMA: freemusicarchive.org...
Avatar 5:27pm Cecile:

thanks, Andrea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm efd:

If that new Cosmonauts album is even half as good as the session they recorded then it's amazing. Thanks for the mention, Brian!
Avatar 5:30pm Cecile:

Cool, it's the Brisbane version of "why march when you can riot!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm tim from champaign:

Kick ass! I just realized I have the Proud Scum cut that BT played early on. It's on a Kiwi KBD style comp called Hate Your Neighbors.
Avatar 5:37pm Cecile:
