I thought it was pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am DCE:

make it a double, Dick
Avatar 10:47am Roberto:

It was indeed pretty great. My kids and I watched the last few episodes together. My older one worships Bender.
Avatar 10:48am Cecile:

did you sniffle at the end. I did.

This is a great track.
Avatar 10:49am Roberto:

Yes I did. And more so at the end of the 3rd-to-last episode with Fry's mom. My kids have been ridiculing me for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am pacific standard simon:

Hard to believe that wasn't Tom Waits in the '90s.
Avatar 10:50am Cecile:

they'll understand some day.
Avatar 10:53am glenn:

futurama's a lot better than the simpsons these days, that's for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am pacific standard simon:

I regret now that I was not a more assiduous collector of 45s when I was young and strong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am DCE:

Avatar 10:57am Joe McG:

Thanks, DCE! I like this atypical rockin' Vanity Fare b-side (they wrote this one themselves).
Avatar 11:04am Roberto:

Correction, I believe that was the 4th-to-last episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am cthulhu:

my cutomers just told me that i play great music.
Avatar 11:09am northguineahills:

Cool, Johnny Cash hasn't been played yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am pacific standard simon:

@cthulhu - I get that a lot from my co-workers, usually when playing Matt Fiveash archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Mike Noble:

I feel the same way about Johnny Cash that I do about the Beatles.
Avatar 11:12am glenn:

99.99 % i never need to hear folsom prison blues again.
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

@cthulhu: If you have WFMU on, it goes without saying! :)
Avatar 11:13am Cheri Pi:

I can tell you now I'll be replaying this Cash segment for Mr CP after work.
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

@Mike: I'll try to play some less common numbers. And no JC Beatles covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Mike Noble:

these days i would much rather hear the International Submarine Band's version of Folsom with the bass cranked up.
Avatar 11:14am Jeff:

People who purely don't like Johnny Cash at all are probably sociopaths.
Avatar 11:14am Cheri Pi:

Thannks Joe, I know these cuts will run deep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Mike Noble:

JC is undeniably good, but sometimes it's like "OK OK, 99% of people, I get it! He's good! No one's on the other side of this argument!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Carmichael:

Good morning, Mr. McGasko. I'm in my place with a bright shiny face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Mike Noble:

People love JC to a degree that it makes me want to dislike him. Classic contrarian thinking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am pacific standard simon:

But he's a killer -- a sky-diving murderer! I saw it on Columbo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Mike Noble:

But I appreciate Mr. McGasko penetrating my contrarian defenses with lesser known Cash. I don't have the antibodies for these sounds.
Avatar 11:18am glenn:

jeff -When I met her she was a beauty queen
Who wanted something more
Now she's hanging out with me in front of the liquor store
And it won't start when I shut it off
So she has to get the beer
She puts it in the back seat
And she quietly says to me
When, exactly, did we become white trash
How come we have seven dogs living in the garage
How come the only eight track in our car is Johnny Cash
When, exactly, did we become white trash
And she tells everybody that I've got my PhD
But it stands for Post Hole Digger
It ain't exactly a degree
And there's curtains on the window
And we hardly watch TV
And that double wide is triple wide
Now that's she's with me
And she says
When, exactly, did we become white trash
How come we got seven dogs
And who burned down the garage
How come the only eight track in our car is Johnny Cash
When, exactly, did we become white trash
Girls: When, exactly, did we become white trash
Boys: When, exactly, did we become white trash
When, exactly, did we become white trash

  11:22am KP:

Hey long opus did not convey. Anyway the second was at Carnegie Hall, second row, the Tennessee Three.
American Recordings had just come out. Did I mention second row?
Avatar 11:23am glenn:

i saw him 2 or 3 times. coincidentally enough, at one show he brought his son out, who proceeded to do a set of........bob seger songs.
Avatar 11:24am fred:

@Mike Noble: If you want to cure that particular contrarian instance: move to France. I live there, had some "interesting" encounters with locals because I wear cowboy boots. They worship a different Johnny there... one that makes it worthy being a contrarian

Ha, never heard Johnny do an Irish accent before.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Carmichael:

I saw Cash and Willie Nelson at a casino near here. Both were playing acoustics, with a bass and drummer. Nelson had his p.o.s. Martin that he apparently pounds nails with and leaves out in the rain. He broke a string and borrowed Cash's guitar to play Crazy. When he gave it back, Cash said that his guitar wasn't used to being played like that.
