Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

The Tater Thompson Story
Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I appreciate the time you've taken. It was nice to come upon the Peace Day event. I thank the participants for their genuine caring and for their willingness to speak with me. I hope I wasn't flippant about any of the heavy issues being discussed. Admittedly, trying to work in prog and flea market acquisitions in and amongst the various interviews is not always completely successful. It would be easy for me to go to the shelves and retrieve all the obvious tracks to accompany whatever subect we're dealing with each week, Oh, yes, easy. But taking a chance like we do, with the finds and the adds and ends. Sometimes ... paydirt. Sometimes winces, but we swing, and we swing, and we swing for the fences here. We may never hit one over the wall, but perhaps we'll hit a bloop single into right. Sometimes the best we can hope for is a bloop single. Sometimes we bunt. Always ... we remember.

Great song by the dBs!

Avatar 6:22pm Clay Pigeon:

My microcassette recorder is going downhill. All warbly. I'm riding the speed control here in the studio because my voice keeps chipmunking. They discontinued the Dusty model. The end ... of analog.
  6:23pm common:

no clay! nnnnoooo! analog lives

Stop with the spurs already.

What model is the Dusty microcassette recorder?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Owlex:

Cool thanks I always dig when you use that. I second David's idea
Avatar 6:29pm Clay Pigeon:

david ... Mark Slaughter, former FMU person, can work miracles with tape players. Frankenstein two or three into one gleaming, functioning unit. I may have to throw up the Slaughter-Signal.
Avatar 6:29pm david_:

I've enjoyed digi-dusty's... i also wouldn't mind a digi-dusty transferred to cassette, 2nd generation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

These hippy interviews today are like, groovy, man.

The Evergreen Blues?!?? Wow, first time I ever heard this...and before the Grass Roots?

Well hat's off to 'em! Yo La Tengo played this for me, the first time I pledged to their annual Murdering The Classics fundraising night for WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Parq:

Wow, in all the decades that I was a fan of "Midnight Confession", I'd never even heard of that prior version. Thanks for that, Clay.
  6:33pm clay fan:

I was told the old dude on the show "The Office" was the bass player for Grass Roots. . .
Avatar 6:34pm glenn:

that's more or less true.. carol kaye played the bass on their records.
Avatar 6:34pm david_:

love it, glenn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@clay fan: Creed Bratton! The weird guy from The Office was an original Grass Root!
Avatar 6:36pm Clay Pigeon:

The songwriter (A. Lurie?) tried it with The Ever-Green Blues and it didn't work. A year later, the Grass Roots had a hit with it.
Avatar 6:37pm Clay Pigeon:

No Frances ...
  6:37pm clay fan:

That's true @Matt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Hells yeah, clay fan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Insightful look at blacklisting in Turkey...I'm not familiar with how that goes in Turkey, but I suspect this man's story is sadly routine there.
  6:38pm clay fan:

So awesome! @Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:40pm clay fan:

NO WAY! R. WELCH! I just polluted myself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Carol Kaye! She was a pioneering female bassist in rock. She's played on very many songs, but was frequently used on Beach Boys tracks as well, that's how I know of her.
  6:42pm ?:

Avatar 6:42pm glenn:

carol played on pretty much everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

"The Tater Totson Story"??! Good Glord Clay, your ideas never quit! ;)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Flash-frozen hamburgers! Does it give them that fishy Gordon's taste, like frozen fish!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

What about the generic, greasy "McDonald's taste"? McDonald's should market jugs of that in retail grocery stores.
  6:47pm clay fan:

Clay - Are you available for voice enactments for hire?
Avatar 6:47pm northguineahills:

Now, that's what I call a tractor!
  6:48pm clay fan:

Is that Clay playing the Banjo?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

PAUL SMITH again! :D
Avatar 6:52pm glenn:

i went to a farm toy museum a while back. (it was way more fun than it sounds) the guy had a scale model of big bud. it was impressive.
  6:52pm clay fan:

Love Paul Smith's heart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

@clay fan: Those are the cosmopolitan centers of the Land of 10,000 Lakes (aside from the hyperurban Twin Cities, of course), anyone who's spent time in MN has probably been to those places. A friend of mine went to school at Mankato, in fact.
  6:53pm clay fan:

I shall cherish Tater forever
Avatar 6:54pm Night Al:

We never get taters up at the nervous hospital.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:
