Hello Scott. It's like you never left.

Hi, Scott! It may be late summer but the FMU front photo is from Late Spring. With devils away, the angels can play, yay!

Morning, Scott! Great to hear your intro music again!

*puts glasses on* Oh, I see, sorry, carry on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Caryn:

Hello all! Tuning in briefly before starting the commute home. Wouldn't you know it, when Scott shows up, I manage to be deaf in one ear. Dammit! Is Ken away because the insane influx of gifs in the past 2 days due to the new Mumford & Sons video drove him loopy?
Avatar 9:25am Honey Water:

Hey, Caryn! Bet you also knew where the FMU front page photo was from?
Avatar 9:29am Cheri Pi:

No no no, I'm on my 3d cup of green tea though, I drank coffeeevery day last week for the first time in years, I have to play it cool. A little CP goes a long way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Caryn:

@HW: you mean Ozu's "Late Spring"? Yeah, I'm a bit of a fan.
Swag For Life Member 9:33am Ralphine:

I didn't know Ozu was a WFMU fan.
Avatar 9:33am Honey Water:

Yep, bought it for Philo's b'day, and we just saw it a few weeks ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Caryn:

Setsuko Hara is fabulous, isn't she?
Avatar 9:34am Honey Water:

@Ralphine: Do you know what WFMU is replacing in that roadside sign of Japan '49?
Avatar 9:35am Honey Water:

Yes, she was. The extras with the Criterion edition were also very illuminating.
Avatar 9:36am groucho:

typical, I go to brush my teeth and return to hear Aidan Moffat say 'I wanna have sex on the beach', meaning I missed an Arab Strap song. this is going to be an awful day
Swag For Life Member 9:36am Ralphine:

Coke, I would imagine. Late Spring was the first Ozu movie I ever saw and is still my favorite. Heartbreaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am DCE:

it's all downhill from here, groucho!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am tim from champaign:

Hooray for SM in the AM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Lewis:

speaking of Scotland - if you find your way into the bagpipes region, it would be great to hear some Saor Patrol... a bit of a ways from the current mood (which is right on the money for my current state of mind)
Avatar 9:39am Honey Water:

@Ralphine: Yep, but I didn't find it so heartbreaking -- touching, yes, but I think it was a rather optimistic ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Caryn:

Okay, off to catch the bus home. I'll be back when I get there.
Avatar 9:40am Honey Water:

Moi, moi, Caryn!
Avatar 9:41am Brian in UK:

@Lewis some pibroch would do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Caryn:

Avatar 9:42am groucho:

if you want snow patrol then please play Whodunnit by the Reindeer Section. it's by the snow patrol guy but has Aidan Moffat singing. may even be clean, not sure he wrote the lyrics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am DCE:

blechh, autotune!
Avatar 9:43am Honey Water:

My thoughts exactly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Scott McDowell:

That's where you draw the line DCE?
Avatar 9:45am Brian in UK:

Ah-Ha It's Alpha Papa, Alan Partridge,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am DCE:

haha, yep, pretty much
  9:46am common:

@Brian: HA! exactly.
Swag For Life Member 9:47am Ralphine:

I don't mind T-Pain-style Auto-Tune, but Glee-style Auto-Tune is an abomination.

Congregation; footy be with you.
Avatar 9:52am Cheri Pi:

[And also to you]
Avatar 9:52am Honey Water:

@RTD: Do you know Rabbi Broccoli?
Avatar 9:54am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Not as such, HW, but rabbi(ts) are quite fond of the broccoli. Myself included.
Avatar 9:55am Honey Water:

Your pic appears a very frightened 'bit.
Avatar 9:58am Cheri Pi:

I'm a fan of Wendy Broccoli myself

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Mike East:

Dub in the morning is always a good idea, I think.
Avatar 10:00am Cheri Pi:

scott is a Dubtician.
Avatar 10:00am Berg:

in the afternoon as well Mike
Avatar 10:02am Berg:

heavy rythmic bass reminds me of pink floyd intro good bye blue sky
Avatar 10:02am Cheri Pi:

Dub at suppertime too.
Avatar 10:04am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

This background music makes me think of that Herzog film, Encounters at the End of the World.
Avatar 10:07am Honey Water:

Herzog and this music get my seals of approval.
Avatar 10:07am βrian:

There's nothing to know about autotune except that it's evil. It makes one's soul hurt.
Avatar 10:12am Rev. Turnip Druid:

back now.
evidently missed all the dub fun.
will now punch myself innaface.
  10:15am common:

man...what a voice he had!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Mike East:

You know, at about a hundred bucks, this Nilsson Box is a steal...wish I had a hundred bucks to burn...
Avatar 10:19am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Beats the snot out of Davey's delivery of that tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Caryn:

And I'm back! Darn, missed some interesting stuff.
Avatar 10:20am Rev. Turnip Druid:

speaking of the dubby, just saw that lee scratch/subatomic coming to dc in sept. Somehow I've lived this long without seeing the man...
  10:21am pierre:

Bonjour Scott !
Avatar 10:22am Brian in UK:

Hello Caryn, you sound surprised.
Avatar 10:22am Cheri Pi:

I've never seen 'im either- get thee to the dub-dub.
Avatar 10:22am Brian in UK:

He's crazy in the coconut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am tim from champaign:

This Virginia Vee song makes me want to do the Carlton from Fresh Prince dance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Mike East:

Hey New Yorkers...do I need to wear rain boots today, you think?
Avatar 10:25am Cheri Pi:

That dance is the best thing in the world TfC. next to beersies and dogs, and FMU.
Avatar 10:25am Rev. Turnip Druid:

on the negative side, Scratch is at the Howard Theater: beautifully renovated historic venue, but I don't usually dig the whole supper-club scene with its minimum $$ menu orders. A bit stuffy. But the dub shall conquer.
Avatar 10:27am Cheri Pi:

Drink some rhubarb cola too pappy, I hear he is a "late-starter"
Avatar 10:28am Brian in UK:

Really liked early Ron Sexsmith, you could pick out the Nilsson influence there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Caryn:

@Brian: well, I'm surprised I got here this fast.
Avatar 10:30am Honey Water:

Missed every Nilsson track because of a phone call. :/ Archive time.
Avatar 10:30am northguineahills:

We're supposed to get T-storms in the late afternoon-evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Ike:

@Mike East, tough call, not sure yet. No rain yet.
Avatar 10:31am Honey Water:

You folks have been getting drenched this year.
Avatar 10:32am Brian in UK:

@Caryn are you getting this crazy heat then tropical rain that we have over here just now?

@Mike East GALOSHES, no I idea if you need them, just like the word.
Avatar 10:35am Brian in UK:

Gotta go fix the flat tyre on my wheelbarrow. That is a serious comment.
Avatar 10:36am Honey Water:

Wheel see you later then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Caryn:

@Brian: happen to be living in the statistically driest and hottest place in the country this summer. Today is still supposed to be hot and dry, tomorrow, we're supposed to get thunder storms. Had one day of rain last week, and that was heavy as heck. So, to answer your question: yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Sigurdur:

hi Cici
Avatar 10:42am northguineahills:

What's hot for Finland, 27C?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am fred:

Good morning Scott
  10:46am cglenn:

dig your shows Scott...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Scott McDowell:

gracias glenn, hey fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Caryn:

@NGH: for us, that would be hot. And that's what we've had here for the past week. But temps can go up to about 36C. We dealt with that last summer or the year before that. It's been a bit easier this year, but very dry.
Avatar 10:59am northguineahills:

So, about like a UK summer?
Avatar 11:02am Kurt Gottschalk:

oooooh, that was roland kirk. of _course_.
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

drone spank sirens skating along my spine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Caryn:

@NGH: basically, but since we have more inland area and less shoreline, and are not as influenced by ocean currents, there are more extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) and less rain in general.
Avatar 11:08am Honey Water:

Hey, Kurt! All ovah the woild.
Avatar 11:10am northguineahills:

Cool, thanks Caryn. One of my geek hats I wear is weather geek.
Avatar 11:26am Honey Water:

Dreamy segue.
Avatar 11:26am Stash:

Avatar 11:27am βrian:

@HW: Wouldn't that be a great stage name?
Avatar 11:28am Honey Water:

@βrian: Yes! I used to dance under that name (to borrow a page from Craigyferg).
Avatar 11:28am Brian in UK:

@ngh we live on a largeish island a fact that people over here seem to forget. Do we still think we are bigger than the place we inhabit? Most likely.
Avatar 11:30am Brian in UK:

I think the search for the next Beatles/Dylan has finally been put to sleep.
Avatar 11:31am Honey Water:

@Brian in UK: Are you all tyred up now?
Avatar 11:32am Brian in UK:

Waiting for it to set. Using old glue so not very confident. Wheel see soon.
Avatar 11:33am Honey Water:

Great time for a Grass Nap then.
Avatar 11:35am northguineahills:

Danny Paul Grody, new to me an nice, reminds of the late 70s ECm releases....
Avatar 11:36am Brian in UK:

Got to cut it first. Speaking of which, really like Grasscut, London band.
Chickens need letting out, got two broody ones who want to spend all the time in the nesting boxes.
Avatar 11:37am Honey Water:

So glad this was the morning I'm housebound (awaiting delivery of a new keyboard) when you are on board, Scott! Thanks, esp. for that dreamy segue. :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am DCE:

I've clicked that star a hundred times. Never seems to stick!
Avatar 11:40am Brian in UK:

This has been a real privilege, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am fred:

Long Rally classic there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am tim from champaign:

I think what really makes this song (among many things) is the rhythm section. Especially when the guitar goes off on a Television tangent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am DCE:

so after this I'm pullin' out me sandwich
Avatar 11:41am hamburger:

parquet courts!
Avatar 11:41am hamburger:

@ Honey Water Oh the joy of waiting in for the delivery man!
Avatar 11:42am DJ Stashu:

Avatar 11:42am hamburger:

Avatar 11:42am northguineahills:

Ok, I got the starving part down, now for it's tandem....
Avatar 11:42am Brian in UK:

Avatar 11:43am Honey Water:

@BiUK: This really IS worth the wait. A new musical toy to add to my growing assortment. :)
Avatar 11:44am Brian in UK:

Still waiting for the swagman.
Avatar 11:44am Honey Water:

And, bocoors, Mr. McDowell and the company here has made that wait all the more pleasant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Faye:
