@Jeff: It's an arts project: Kapwani Kiwanga interviewed musicians who played with Sun Ra and asked them to describe him physically, then had a French military cop make a composite portrait out of these (which looks nothing like Sun Ra at all) and beamed it towards Saturn through radio waves. Then she got recordings from radio-telescopes that were aimed at Saturn and scoured these transmissions for a reply from either Sun Ra or his relatives. This utterly fails to capture the thing, check it out if you can

in the oldern days in the 90s there was a great jazz record shop where I lived and frequented and bought loads of cool jazz discs.
However it shut in 2002 and since then I have lost touch with many of the records and artist I bought then.
In short do you what happened to:
Nicky Skopolitis
Steve Tibbetts (of YR fame)
what Coleman Hawkins did after the 'With Strings' album and if was as cool?

That's an amazing segue (for me): I spend a lot of time at Instants Chavirés, where Brötzmann played twice this year, and I work at a place founded by Boulez. This might be the first time I see them connected

My high school band teacher's name was Mr. Doberstein, but we all called him Doberman. He was a about 4'11" and would turn beet-red whilst screaming at the woodwinds or the brass (never the percussion section). When he would yell, a little blob of spittle would form on his upper lip and we would all wait with baited wonder to see which member of the flute section it would inevitably land on.
