Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Listener comments!
- but all I get is a PowerPop-Up!
...Oh wait!: That's good - !...
- Early Who
- Beatles up to & crowned by Revolver
- (More energetic) Early Kinks (but embracing wit of it all)
- the more Rockin' bubblegum...
- ??...
Wait.... @John, really? I had no idea! No TV, will have to catch via youtube next week.
@AZ - Agreed. Agreed +10000
Will now hush 'til home ~ 1 hour, cross fingers intenet's working
I love Clay as much as I love efd. This will be a difficult evening. Of course, I heartily encourage this sort of combat.
Power Pop Pop-Pop (originally aired May 22, 2007)
So hit the Best Show or Best Show Gems archives!
...Hours to go!
Great going Clay, didn't realize this Off Broadway was your pick!
- but
~ Power+Pop
~ in the Best Way
- is probably the more accessible answer...
- PowerPop gets right down to the Rock/Pop question...
- One thing commonly aimed for is to Blend two kinds Music, hopefully for cross-over appeal. It's harder than people think to not mess up for one or the other if you do that!
Play-by-play from Clay!
Hey all
- I just wan'em to kick me on my butt!
Richrags are awesome. Never heard them before.
Cheri Pi: Never too New Wave! Bauhaus-y.
efd.
- the Moses of Power Pop.
and bomp!
Mike East: Ditto on Mr. Shelley. Then again, we could have a three-way showdown, ala Good/Bad/Ugly
- but I think I'm more in line w/ efd's Punkier sensibilities?
- It's Wed. nite: Three Hours of Power Pop by experts should make me feel like it's a sunny Sat. afternoon, I had a good espresso, & the girl likes me...
I also agree with: BRAM!
Speaking of Fabulous: maybe Fabulous Poodles?
when he got nothing
to hang on to
...Early Beatles - & WHO.
great book, totally recommended. As is Rocktober the magazine.
If Power Pop came from Paperback Writer, than Pilot is definitely in the line.
And BarkS beat me to the 10cc remark.

Hey Funk Fans :)
Hey Pigeoteers :)
Hey EFD :)
Hey Clay :)
efd, you are my Yankees tonight. Bwaaa Haa Haa!
12-11.
EFD should play the Baseball Project's "Please Don't Call Them Twinkies" in Clay's honor next week :)
Incidentally, who needs paradise? I'd rather have WFMU! :D
And, at least the SECOND wrong speed tonight! Hooray!!
www.youtube.com...
20/20 already played. hmm. Shoes, also. Uncle Michael is correct, Rhodes up for grabs. I am completely confident that efd already has Mud in queue.
Point to efd for Shivvers.
I've been near you, but you never noticed me
I may have to head in myself soon. So enjoying this throwdown though! Will mos def catch up on the parts I missed!
Like the suggestions of Posies and Teenage Fanclub.
- plimsouls really great I heard many times but don't tell me in how many years...
...memories of Candy-O synth boops & an awfullotta Panama Red flat on my back twitching before the War on Drugs (no more)...
anything by "those 'Instant Reaction' boys," THE GO? Celia and The Mutations? "CN Tower" by The Poles? Nikki Corvette and The Convertables?
@Barkevious:
Hoodoo Gurus +2 BUT
Screaming Tribesmen +3
Ya snooze, ya looze, boss!
The drummer in the video is hilarious.
Btw, here's the video to Looks That Kill that you can watch with the sound down
www.youtube.com...
After this one though, Clay may in fact include Asia as power pop.
Btw, Motley Crue is a technical foul on Clay. 2 shots and the ball for EFD.
and. of course, the band named The Pop!
EFD sinks both foul shots and now hits a 3-pointer with the db's!
Looking bad for team Clay.
- Could easily make another whole bitchin' Show just from Comments suggestions...
No one's yet busted out Badfinger or Klaaatu?
- These two together on mike is great.
...Starry Eyes baby! : )
Do you agree KP?
And as always, the winner in these throwdowns is: US listeners!
Thanks EFD and Clay! Awesome, euphoric selections of powerful power pop!
CP fancies himself in the same league as EFD, throwdown ensues. 12-string Rickenbackers used often by both sides. Clay stumbles over prog and hair metal heritage, EFD turns in fab survey of Power Pop. Announcer reminds us this was an exhibition, not a competition, and not to try this at home with your father's records.
Cheap Trick alone not enough to counter.
efd wins this round, a rematch will be excellent!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Clay & efd!
The End
?
Have a great night everyone!
Always Remember...Wednesdays @9, Thursdays @6!
Everyone's definition of pop differs. Viva l'difference. But I think "Talk Dirty to Me" is a great power pop single, so what do I know?
Great show youse guys. And you're both older than me hahahahahha. (not by much)
