Options Brian Turner: Playlist from April 9, 2013 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Doing my taxes the old fashioned way. Being unemployed makes it easy. Apparently, H&R Block messed up my online submission for 2008, so, 2009, and 2011 are in limbo. (I did 2010 w/ an accountant)
Avatar 3:18pm Chris from DC:

Word, DCE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Mike East:

@ngh - doin' mine online now...I don't trust H&R, I've used them once.

There's a Hell of a Universe next door--let's go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm rob t:

unfortunately, headbanging at my workplace is not "the thing to do." damn you Windhand!
Avatar 3:19pm Yair Yona:

I've finished working for today (hey it's 22:18!) but I am studying to this huge exam on Thursday. Reading articles and try to remember theories. This Windhand track is a perfect soundtrack
Avatar 3:19pm Cheri Pi:

2 songs in and BT has already pushed the envelope of programming. What a great day at the station!

- The big speakers in my living room love Brian Turner. They told me so.

From 2006 - so maybe Old News
- but you might be the right bunch here - a good Reference, & I like Copey's writing :
...'Bassoons, flamenco, monks' cowls ... welcome to the new rock underground
- Julian Cope explains why heavy metal, so often maligned, is at the heart of today's rock avant-garde'...:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey everybody!
@Yair: What kind of theories are you studying?
Avatar 3:21pm Cheri Pi:

what B23 said.
Avatar 3:21pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I've been trying to get some sort of communication about 2008,09,11 w/ the IRS to no avail. I have federal money owed me that I can use to pay off NYS w/ more left over from '11.

Windhand, oh.........yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
Avatar 3:22pm northguineahills:

I believe I heard of Yair's pieces around 7 this morning, or was it yesterday.... it's been a blur.

Avatar 3:23pm Yair Yona:

I will never forget Mudhoney's show in Tel Aviv, 2009. At the end of that show I almost burst in tears like a 12 year old. I was excited to see them, finally.
Avatar 3:24pm Cheri Pi:

Mark Arm can say anything he wants to me.
Avatar 3:24pm Cheri Pi:

I saw them recently too YY! I felt the same exact way.
Avatar 3:24pm MenfussMike:

I love Mudhoney but this cover aint cutting it
Avatar 3:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...song reminds me how tight Mudhoney were w/ Cobain...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm rob t:

Mudhoney never promised you a rose garden.
Avatar 3:25pm Jennique:

Whoa. Bette Midler never sounded so good. Mudhoney should cover all the songs everywhere, done by everyone.
Avatar 3:25pm Yair Yona:

Cheri -I'm jealous. I wish I'd see them once a year.

Went to alchemyatzahar to figure this out. But it started to automatically play music so I bailed. hate websites that do that.
Avatar 4:11pm Brian Turner:

A Moroccan artscouncil was paying the bands, but there's difficulty in transferring the $$ overseas, hence the exodus of Secret Chiefs, Om, Pelican and others. Right now there is supposedly a bill happening, but not in the desert. We shall see, would be killer to see this.... esp. to b'cast Jajouka!

Avatar 4:38pm northguineahills:

As far as I can tell, I suppose they stiffed me, but, getting any info is like pulling toenails off. I'm interviewing for three other jobs right now. Hopefully, something will drop.
Avatar 4:39pm Chris from DC:

Fabrica is on quite a roll these days.
Avatar 4:39pm northguineahills:

My friend was playing drums in Rodriguez's band, and as soon as they got to NYC, he freaked out and fired the whole band. FYI.
Avatar 4:40pm Chris from DC:

Jowe Head was absolutely killer here in DC. Do not miss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Carmichael:

What a professional organization. They interview you for 3 months, then never get back to you. The bastards. Good luck on your other interviews!
Avatar 4:42pm Lowtrux:

hey everybody, a newbie with the profile thing here, does anybody know how to add your favs to the profile ? thanks in advance
Avatar 4:42pm northguineahills:

Thanks Carmichael. I wish I would get info one way or another.
Avatar 4:46pm northguineahills:

For favoring tracks, just click on the star. For shows and dj's, the same. For us hosers in the peanut gallery, click on the one's icon which will direct you to the corresponding profile, there, a star will be available for you to fave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: I'm workin' w/ the Feds right now...they will tell you either way, eventually (USAJOBS status updates available for this job?)

Unless they're the CIA. They'll tell you "either way", "within 45 days" of application whether you are moving on in the process or cut. I'm still waiting, >5 years later...
Avatar 4:47pm northguineahills:

It's a City job, actually. I worked for the Feds for 4 years. I've been offered another job w/ them, but I'd have to relocate to DC, which is starting to look attractive.
Avatar 4:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lowtrux: Gotta be the right Browser - I got an old OS w/ (very!) old Explorer - & Favs don't work w/ that. I'm switchin' to a Mac ASAP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Carmichael:

I confused the issue, Matt.
Avatar 4:50pm Lowtrux:

I got it Revolution, thanks anyway ! I wont switch to a Mac for browser reasons tho, firefox, chrome and even that thing called ie works just fine
Avatar 4:50pm Lowtrux:

thank you also @northguineahills

Avatar 5:00pm Chris from DC:

Yes! Played this Sunday night.
Avatar 5:01pm northguineahills:

well, de nada does literally mean, "of nothing", but usually, colloquially, it usually means, "you are welcome".
Avatar 5:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Si, Gracias.

Avatar 5:05pm northguineahills:

Not to be confused w/ bienvenidos, as in "Welcome" to our home.

Avatar 5:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

It's a fab album all the way thru, NGH. Eroc 2 as well...
  5:09pm dave:

maybe G, but they sound like they're ripping off Paint Fumes a bit
Avatar 5:15pm InBrkly:

Had to step away but I'm back now. Thanks for the info Brian Turner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm G:

Yeah, they do sound like they are lifting from known music, don't they.
Avatar 5:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx NGH - take all the help I can get w/ Languages...

- Like to imagine that being about Mick'n'Keef w/ each other...track's aggro still works okay, even after the Pistols & Punk...
Avatar 5:25pm northguineahills:

I'm horrible w/ Spanish, my gf and her friends make fun of my Spanglish all the time. However, it does get better little by little.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Carmichael:

Living in California, I'm required to know both Spanish & Spanglish, although I can only speak Irish & German.
Avatar 5:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- figure take me no less than cinquo annos of Total Immersion (it's kinda Use It or Lose It) to become even reasonable w/ new lang.
- altho' I enjoy 'Coffee Break Spanish' podcast & other MP3-ish things I've ended up having stored...Figure however little you learn, you'll be better off...
Avatar 5:29pm northguineahills:

I speak rather decent Spanish when I'm drunk. Also, the same goes w/ Quebecois. I still get nervous w/ verb tenses and proper grammar when sober.
Avatar 5:31pm northguineahills:

5 days in Mexico City I was doing quite fine w/ Spanish. A week in Monterrey, my Spanish still sucked since nearly everyone there spoke perfect English, and wanted to practice w/ me.
Avatar 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think I'm a tiny bit more ambidextrous post-tipple...
Avatar 5:33pm northguineahills:

At my gf's parent's place, in Pachuca, I was learning Spanish by watching the Simpsons in Espanol since I have all of the classic episodes memorized. ( I had a few days there before she showed up).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Stevel:

Blind Shake makes me happy.
Avatar 5:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Los Simpsons! How were the voices? : )
- In Paris, watched 'Adams Family': 'Mercredi' sounds nice but not as Gothic as 'Wednesday'? - I suppose it might *not* be as Gothic!
Avatar 5:38pm northguineahills:

The Simpson's voices make no sense in Espanol, which sort of throws me off. And just like the bad 80s movies on Telemundo, the translation is far from perfect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Carmichael:

I saw MASH dubbed into Korean. It was hilariously awful.
