Avatar 3:01pm Honey Water:

Hiya, Kurt and all to come!
Avatar 3:03pm Honey Water:

Appropriately named show after Bryce's last set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Mike East:

I'm very likely going to see Mavis Staples in a few weeks for Valentines day. Looking forward to it.

Hey Honey Water, Kurt, everyone else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I hope that animated gif has nothing to do with North Korea!
Avatar 3:08pm Honey Water:

Hope it's not a "duh" question, but any relation to Louis Moreau, DJKG?

Hi, Mike!
Avatar 3:10pm Honey Water:

@KenfHP: Ewww, just thinking about that pudgy little dictator after sex is ruining my appetite for dinner. ;)
Avatar 3:16pm das:

I didn't know Taj played banjo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Parq:

John Hartford -- talk about someone I miss. And, glad Taj took that moment to clear his throat.
Avatar 3:17pm Honey Water:

Taj on MaHelium for a sec there.
Avatar 3:23pm Honey Water:

XTC, si!
Avatar 3:25pm MuttonChops:

I thought the beginning of that XTC song was Pretty Persuasion by REM D'uh
Avatar 3:25pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hi everyone! thanks for tuning in. honeyw, no relation to lmg that i'm aware of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Fuzzy:

Aww, that's lovely!
Avatar 3:29pm Honey Water:

Everyone seems delayed back this aft. Guess those ceiling blood stains were stubborn? ;)
  3:31pm squirrelbait:

bravo on the XTC. Black Sea is such a great record. 32 years old. Oh junk I'm ancient.
Avatar 3:32pm Honey Water:

I dig the LMG label name, Crysonyx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm G:

OK, if people are all posted out for the nonce, I'm gonna toss in my opinion that it's good Kurt has a classical-related segment to his show most weeks, now that Bethany is away...
  3:56pm 37:

damn.... looks like i've been missing a really good show!
Avatar 3:56pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, g. string quartet, coming up!
Avatar 3:56pm Kurt Gottschalk:

welcome back, 37!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Andrew Waterloo:

Bethany did do a wonderful fill-in for Irwin this week.
  3:57pm 37:

thanks... it's been a few weeks since my work lod has allowed me to listen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm G:

Maybe people are too aesthetically transfixed to get their fingers typing dozens of keys in the cocrret squeucne
Avatar 3:58pm Honey Water:

@Andrew Waterloo: Does "tree cyclops" have any meaning for you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Parq:

Lively little assemblage, isn't it?
Avatar 3:59pm Honey Water:

@G: I certainly agree about having classical components whenever and wherever possible on the airwaves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Andrew Waterloo:

@honey, it is one of my Tumblr alter-egos
Avatar 4:02pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 4:02pm steve:

MC Maguire, that was great!
Avatar 4:03pm Honey Water:

@AW: OK. Thought so. :)
Avatar 4:03pm steve:

i just googled him and his website has a phone number. maybe ill call him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm northguineahills:

Enjoyed the Gottschalk piano piece. (just an hour late w/ that comment).
Avatar 4:04pm Honey Water:

DJKG, you sound under the weather. You feeling all right?
Avatar 4:06pm Honey Water:

@ngh: I just figured everyone was late after they saw today's show title and wanted to first "make it so."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm G:

Maybe his vocal cords got freezer burn commuting to the studio. :)
Avatar 4:07pm Honey Water:

Think of it this way, Kurt, at least your strength staved it off a bit longer.
Avatar 4:09pm Kurt Gottschalk:

but my voice does sound better this way, no?
Avatar 4:11pm MuttonChops:

Yes I recently answered a Q2 music survey and said I get my modern music/"avant-garde" classical music from WFMU.
Avatar 4:11pm Honey Water:

I dunno about *better* but just fine. :)
Avatar 4:12pm Kurt Gottschalk:

well played, mutton. & thx, honeyw.
Avatar 4:16pm steve:

i wonder if these guys like speed metal
Avatar 4:17pm glenn:

i'm depressed. it's been a bad day for toronto's leftwing folk.
Avatar 4:18pm Honey Water:

Wha happened, glenn?
Avatar 4:18pm Sem Chumbo:

So TO's Mayor Rob Ford gets to keep his job, right?
Avatar 4:20pm glenn:

yep. that sack of shit.
Avatar 4:21pm Honey Water:

So I guess all the merde isn't south of your border.
  4:21pm The Big Picture:

I'm so glad there's a little more to life than momentary partisan politics!
Avatar 4:24pm glenn:

to be honest, it doesn't bother me so much that he's right wing as that he's an imbecile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm G:

Glenn's title for the afternoon is "After Getting Fucked Over" :-)
Avatar 4:26pm Honey Water:

This I like muchly. Just the right bagginess.
  4:28pm lafroig:

happy burns nicht tae all of yee. i just had my haggis, neeps and tatties. And now a wee dram.
Avatar 4:29pm Honey Water:

David x2 on 12 x3
Avatar 4:30pm Kurt Gottschalk:

and actually there was a third david there. david linton played the second set.
Avatar 4:30pm Honey Water:

Giorfal I feel I'd not considered the Burns celebration!
Avatar 4:32pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: Then the math is perfect.
Avatar 4:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, now that Ford has won his appeal he'll probably become imbecile+
Avatar 4:35pm Honey Water:

No haggis on hand. What to do, what to do....
Avatar 4:36pm glenn:

imbecile 2.0.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Haggis R Us:

Try our website!!!!
Avatar 4:37pm Honey Water:

I know. I'll spin a little R.L. Burnside and stare at Mike East's avatar later on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm G:

I had an ebow in the late 70s. I think my roommate ended up with it when I moved!
Avatar 4:39pm Honey Water:

I've always preferred ebow macaroni with white cheddar cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm G:

No cheese in this track...
Avatar 4:45pm Honey Water:

Me own da {RIP}would have been 93 today ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm G:

It's the Network Battle of the Traditional Drones versus the Electronic Drones. For Burns Night.
Avatar 4:47pm Droll:

HW, I like to buy the jalapeño cheddar soft cheese at Trader Joes to mix in with ebow macaroni.

I also prefer electro-acoustic feedback (ie: Sustainiac Model-C) over electromagnetic type. I built a Model-C for about 1/10th what they sell them for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm G:

Auld Lang Drone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm rsj:

thought this was yoshi wada, this is great stuff, a window into a wide genre
Avatar 4:49pm Honey Water:

@Droll: Dang, I miss having a Trader Joe's handy. About my favorite store when I was living out in L.A.
Avatar 4:50pm Profit Margin:

SSSHH. everybody will start doing that.
Avatar 4:50pm Honey Water:

Besides all the inexpensive wines to experiment with, there was this scrumptious salmon mousse we'd splurge on once in a while.
  4:51pm 37:

i come in for bagpipes and i get tom rapp?!
Avatar 4:52pm Kurt Gottschalk:

this is still first/watson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm rsj:

it was a nice transition, but i hope they go back to the pipes!
Avatar 4:53pm steve:

whoa! amazing
Avatar 4:53pm Honey Water:

Yeah, I didn't hear the Rapp lisp, so knew it wasn't he.
  4:53pm 37:

wow.. i would have never guessed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Carmichael:

Okeeee, out of meetings and ready to hear something useful. Hiya Kurt and peoples.
  4:54pm 37:

yes, I realized that too but the lyrics seems so pearls before swine...
Avatar 4:54pm Honey Water:

And now for something completely different.
  4:55pm 37:

now THIS kicks some ass!!
Avatar 4:56pm MuttonChops:

This tune sounds like me "During Sex"
Avatar 4:56pm glenn:

carmichael, what song(s) is that gadd9 chord in? it sounds kind of platter-y to me.
Avatar 4:56pm Honey Water:

Did she (or someone) just *spit*?
Avatar 4:57pm Honey Water:

@MuttonChops: Better you than your partner. ;)
Avatar 4:58pm MuttonChops:

Oh you don't know what you're missing @HW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm G:

ooooooooooooooooooooo... :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Carmichael:

Glenn, it's from Alan Parsons' "Breakdown", one of the intro chords.
Avatar 5:01pm Sem Chumbo:

This should be titled "La trois dames d'Avignon."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm G:

Translation: The Three Dames of Ag-o-ny
Avatar 5:02pm other david:

Hi - I'm other david and I like to relax on Fridays nights, with a beer and the dulcet tones of someone screaming in agony on Miniature Minotaurs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm G:

Are you other david? or the *other* david?
Avatar 5:03pm Honey Water:

Sur le pont d'Avignon..

Allo, OD! Were you aware that Charlie Lewis (Thursdays on GTDR stream) uses the same avatar (only not colorized)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Ken:

Wow Kurt! You are rockin it out with the new legal ID!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm G:

I'm waiting for the first case of avatar envy. Or have I missed it already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm northguineahills:

Haven't been able to make Kurt's theme come to life. All by myself at home.

I now have to groom myself for a face-to-face interview. Can never tell how to approach these things, but, since it's a City agency, I'm going conservative. My last job, I showed up clean-cut w/ a tie, and my interviewers were in hoodies and jeans.... that was awkward.
Avatar 5:05pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I am still at work for some reason. Just like last week. Need to get outta here and start celebrating Burns night.
Avatar 5:06pm Honey Water:

@Ken: Yes, and on only partial vocal strength, too!
Avatar 5:06pm other david:

Honey Water - no, I am not!!!11

Gosh, now I need to find another. I will not sit idly by on this comments board whilst Charlie Lewis uses the same avatar.
Avatar 5:06pm other david:

*sits idle*
Avatar 5:07pm Honey Water:

@ngh: BEST of luck to you! Is there no way to scope things out first on the Internet?
Avatar 5:07pm MuttonChops:

New Legal ID: This is WFMU, so deal with it! <Microphone Drop Thud and Feedback>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm G:

Researching the "mark" is part of the job search :) So much easier on the interwebs anymore...
Avatar 5:08pm steve:

ngh - i try to always hit the perfect middle ground - nice clean unfaded jeans and sneakers and a good button up / western shirt (not tucked in)
Avatar 5:08pm Honey Water:

@OD: I bet he's jealous of your Turnerization actually. Nice red hair and green shirt. :)
Avatar 5:08pm steve:

but then again i work in tech, maybe its different in your world...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm northguineahills:

Well, most of the work will be for the NYFD, so, I should go for a conservative look. My full beard comes in w/in 9 days, so that's not a problem. It's the private startups and tech firms that are casual. (i'm going to miss working in cutoff polyester shorts and threadbare tees.)
Avatar 5:10pm other david:

@Honey Water: I just love the idea that such a device was... seriously touted for warfare.
Avatar 5:11pm glenn:

has anybody ever tried making arty type stuff by swapping toner around in a printer and then printing images out? i.e. black for cyan, red for yellow, that sort of thing?
Avatar 5:11pm Honey Water:

@OD: I thought it was to receive signals from Alpha Centauri.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm G:

I work 100% online. The last time I had a face to face interview was somewhere in the 90s.

Clothes worn aren't relevant to the core tasks of many professional jobs, but they are atavistically important to the socioaesthetic preferences of the members of many organizations.
Avatar 5:12pm MuttonChops:

@Glenn: But I snorted a few lines of cyan toner. Whoa!!!
Avatar 5:12pm glenn:

what g. said. i think.
Avatar 5:13pm Honey Water:

Printer Pollocks. Hm.
Avatar 5:13pm Kurt Gottschalk:

delayed, but mutton, re: legal id, HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm G:

@glenn: Writing that sentence quickly was fun :)
Avatar 5:15pm Droll:

Socioaesthetic Preferences... I need to ponder that outside while it's still sunny out. Back in an hour or two.
Avatar 5:15pm Honey Water:

Somebody was seriously asking me how it's possible I rarely need to iron anything. I work only from home and Philo is fortunate to have a job where he can where shorts and tees.
Avatar 5:16pm steve:

ngh, you're already officially hired, no? i guess you should dress nice at first to be safe, but doesn't every non corporate entity expect their tech related people to dress casual by now? i work as a freelancer for a big insurance company and no one bats an eyelash when i show up in jeans and sneakers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Mike East:

I'm not white collar, or blue collar, I'm no collar. Every job I've had has been teeshirt appropriate.
Avatar 5:16pm other david:

@Honey Water: without the internet, I suspect they would have been my best chance of listening to Woofmoo
Avatar 5:16pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i wish i could say "aw ovah the wehld" like jonesy, tho...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm northguineahills:

My last full-time job, our subcontractors would come into meetings in full business suits, our clients in business casuals, and my team were usually dressed as bums. Always loved around the conference table.

Not officially hired, but everything looks extremely positive.
Avatar 5:18pm glenn:

t shirts and shorts in summer, about 40 layers in the winter. safety boots always.
Avatar 5:18pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: Doesn't he take that from Louis Armstrong or something?
Avatar 5:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

honeyw, did he? i dunno...
Avatar 5:20pm slugluv1313:

il neige! (at least here in Hoboken) so pretty!
YAY NORTHGUINEAHILLS!!! hope you get hired!!!!! sending ÜBER-POSITIVE VIBES!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm northguineahills:

I only iron stuff when I go to formal weddings.

I'll have to see how the work layout is before I can tell what to wear. When I worked for the federal gov't, I had to wear a suit and tie, but they didn't understand tech. For the City, usually a polo and nice jeans.

"Always love to see the disparity of dress around the conference table".
Avatar 5:21pm Honey Water:

@glenn: Yeah, I was only speaking of 3/4 of the year around here. He's riding his 'cycle in some pretty chilly temps, so he's appropriately layered and then removes most at his overheated office (we keep a cool home).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm northguineahills:

Thanks slugluv1313!
Avatar 5:22pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: It just sounds so familiar every time I hear him say it.
Avatar 5:23pm steve:

haha, ngh that's the best, the conf table. there's few things better than being the youngest, dirtiest person in the room with a bunch of suits and corporate people and knowing they take you really seriously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm northguineahills:

This Sciarrino sounds more contemporary then 1947.
Avatar 5:28pm Kurt Gottschalk:

oh damn, ngh, you're right. that's his birth year!
Avatar 5:29pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: Oh, I know! Heard a snippet of Armstrong at Christmas time (the local NPR station) doing a "fan club" recording a la the Beatles. It was on that he said "all ovah the woild." :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Caryn:

Hello all!
Avatar 5:30pm Honey Water:

Hi, Caryn! You're either very late or somewhat early. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm fleep:

This is really classing up the joint.
Avatar 5:31pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ngh, 1978. thanks. honeyw, i'd love to hear that! hi caryn.
Avatar 5:32pm MuttonChops:

I am thoroughly entertained with your show! Thank you Kurt!
Avatar 5:32pm Honey Water:

This reminds me how I never get to hear any Schubert lieder anymore.
Avatar 5:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

what's stoppin' ya?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm northguineahills:

Got an email for "Senior GIS Analyst, New York, NY". Had a good salary, took a closer look, after a couple of clicks, "Manhattan, KS". Looks like that recruiting agency needs a GIS analyst.
Avatar 5:34pm Honey Water:

Yeah, I know, everything at my fingertips. But my own fingertips are too rusty to play them as I once did. :,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Caryn:

@HW: it's been a day of watching my X-mas present "Mighty Boosh" box set, then trying to catch up on stuff. Catching up took until now. Also briefly delayed by my knee getting dislocated. After slamming it back in its' socket, had to take some time to assess whether it was okay to try and move around again.
Avatar 5:35pm Honey Water:

Yikes! Were you listening to Bryce's show when the knee dingus occurred? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm northguineahills:

(hops around on one leg while whispering to my knee, 'it won't happen again') Youchers! hope you're okay, Caryn!
Avatar 5:37pm MuttonChops:

@HW: I recommend WD-40
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Caryn:

@HW: nope, I was turning to go to the couch and slammed my weak knee into the armrest of a chair. Bam!
Avatar 5:38pm Honey Water:

OUCH! I know how that must smart. Nah, I was just being smartass because of B.'s last set.
Avatar 5:40pm Honey Water:

(my profile page has the perfect icon -- fallen from a beater Oldsmobile Cutlass -- for what I was being ;)
Avatar 5:40pm other david:

@Caryn: yikes! Get well soon, I wouldnt wish joint dislocation on anyone
Avatar 5:41pm Kurt Gottschalk:

honeyw, yr avatar makes me think of the old codger's third wife, sometime around 1943
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm G:

was that his wife, or his honey on the side?
Avatar 5:43pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: Yes, about right for Honey Mae Westwater. Now, this Rigacci sure sounds like a little chickadee.
Avatar 5:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

g, ha! (wait, that sounds like "jihad." anyway...), yeah, ha!
Avatar 5:46pm Honey Water:

Many people order their McNuggets with honey on the side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Caryn:

Thanks for the wellwishes, everyone. Gonna be very careful with the leg for the next couple of days. No desire to repeat that.
Avatar 5:49pm Honey Water:

@Muttonchops (much delayed): Only if you're the Tin Man of Oz.
Avatar 5:50pm Honey Water:

So how was your Christmas gift?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Caryn:

Excellent so far. I mean, I've seen it before, but it's nice to watch whole seasons in one stretch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm G:

Kurt really needed "The Aspirin Suite"
Avatar 5:54pm Honey Water:

Caryn, well good then and, yes, it really is.
Avatar 5:54pm Honey Water:

Kurt, thanks for such a fun and relaxing afternoon of mmmmusic! You and Caryn (and anyone else feeling poorly), my deepest get well wishes! NGH, yet again, best of luck to you!! Bye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Caryn:

@HW: yep, and quite easy to watch a season in one stretch, when the season is just 6-8 episodes. Takes a bit more stamina with US shows.
Avatar 5:55pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, honey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Caryn:

Feel better, Kurt! What very little I got to hear of the show live, nice work. Bye, everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm northguineahills:

Thanks Kurt! Have a great weekend everyone! He(a/e)l up soon, Caryn (elevating the leg will reduce swelling)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Parq:

I gotta run, but I just can't go without hearing Petula mutter "yeh" at the start of the horn break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Caryn:

Oh, and keeping my fingers crossed for the interview and for your sartorial choices, ngh!
Avatar 5:57pm steve:

another quality show today... fell better Kurt! and Caryn!
Avatar 5:59pm MuttonChops:

Say it isn't so Kurt!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm G:

The lights are much brighter there.
Avatar 7:06am Honey Water:

@Kurt [from 5:31pm]: While I might have said "what's stoppin' ya?" in response, :) I've done the fingerwalking for you to find that Armstrong (Jonesy) snippet here: dippermouth.blogspot.com Isn't exactly a fan message as I'd recalled, but the blogger's info on the recording's origin is quite interesting. In the first few seconds of the first clip under the header "The Night Before Christmas," you'll hear "aw ovah the woild."
