Good morning!

Avatar 9:10am Cheri Pi:

I'm thinking about making that kale salad this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Scott McDowell:

Good morning all good people!
Avatar 9:11am hamburger:

paprika and some worcester sauce can be all the difference when making a simple burger / oh good morning!
Avatar 9:14am Sem Chumbo:

Kale is an indispensable addition to hearty winter soups, just add it last.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Scott McDowell:

The trick to poaching a proper egg is a bit of vinegar in the water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar 9:16am BSI:

Thou shalt not kale!
Avatar 9:16am Sem Chumbo:

Parsnips can remain in the garden all winter, growing sweeter with time.
Avatar 9:16am BSI:

...or, perhaps, thou shalt!
Avatar 9:17am bruceleh:

Instant aioli - get the finest garlic powder you can find, open a jar of Hellman's Mayo, and add to taste (there can almost never be enough garlic) and mix thoroughly. Keep overnight in fridge before using, the flavors will mix better
Avatar 9:18am Sem Chumbo:

Avoid that bitter garlic taste by removing the green shoot developing in the bulb this time of year.
Avatar 9:18am Tom G:

good egg tip ... i always get some egg sticking to the pan when i poach.
Avatar 9:22am hamburger:

second egg poaching trick - always use fresh fresh eggs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am DCE:

I pour soymilk on my cardboard fiber cereal to soften it up.
Avatar 9:24am Tom G:

i dress raw kale in citrus marinade, the citrus softens up the kale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Scott McDowell:

Also don't just crack your egg right into the water unless you're skilled. Crack into a tiny bowl and kinda softly tilt it into the water.
Avatar 9:25am BSI:

jeez, the Friday Food Talk has begun in earnest, already. I'm doomed. By Brycetime my discipline will be burnt to a crisp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am DCE:

"kerosene drinker", you say?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Andrew Waterloo:

So there is something you can do to kale to make it less like communion wafer jerky
Avatar 9:26am Cheri Pi:

Scott-you can take that same vinegared water and poach slices of tofu, with a pinch of tumeric and black salt to make my famous Egg-McNuthin'® sandwich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Scott McDowell:

Ha awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Andrew Waterloo:

i love tumeric
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am DCE:

I'll have to try that one, CP. I eat mass quantities of tofu.
Avatar 9:29am Cheri Pi:

Me too DCE.
Avatar 9:31am Cheri Pi:

Damn, someone yesterday was bragging about making some tofu-kimchee soup. I wants.
Avatar 9:31am BSI:

That sounds like the perfect thing for today, Cheri P...
Avatar 9:32am Chris from DC:

Great set here. Pass the kale, please.
Avatar 9:34am BSI:

Yes, I was just about to bleat about the sounds. But was wrapped up in visions of tofu/kimchi. Love this audio.
Avatar 9:37am Cheri Pi:

soup porn: ontheroad.destinationtbd.com...
Avatar 9:38am Cheri Pi:

BSI! I drove past a parked white van this morning with BSI written on each side. I must take a picture of it for you, I see it at least once a week.
Avatar 9:38am βrian:

So it was kale for dinner last night. Steamed and served with a sauce of minced ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and lemon juice. Most excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am DCE:

please join the Kale Support Squad!
Avatar 9:40am Cheri Pi:

ginger w/lemon juice sounds insanely delicious- Well done βrian. All I've eaten today is a few saltine crackers!!!
Avatar 9:41am BSI:

Excellent, Cheri. It's always a kick to run into some corporate BSI, there's a bunch. British Standards Institute keeps coming up. I should've been collecting coffee-cups & corp.swag all this time.
Avatar 9:42am BSI:

...although the alias here will be changing after 9feb, which is the last gig under that name. Killing the project! Ah must be insane!
Avatar 9:42am βrian:

I like saltine crackers, served with linguine, parmesan, roasted red peppers, and steamed mussels. (Though I usually forget to eat the saltines.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Scott McDowell:

Miguel Gutierrez + Mind Over Mirrors: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar 9:43am BSI:

by the way: doesn't look like there's a "favorite" star for the Mind Over Mirrors track. Or is my browser on the frack?
Avatar 9:45am jdelz:

I was looking for the star on that one too. Want to click.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Scott McDowell:

@BSI - I just updated the song title so try now.
Avatar 9:46am BSI:

thanks boss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am tim from champaign:

When I was in Amsterdam last week, I had a savory pannenkoeken (dutch pancake like a crepe) topped with cheese and a ginger marmalade. To quote X Ray Burns: it was so good that it will "mess you up bad!".
Avatar 9:47am Cheri Pi:

Where the hell is Pierre?
Avatar 9:47am Cheri Pi:

cool article Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Scott McDowell:

Yeah, it takes skill to write about dance. Or to dance about architecture.
Avatar 9:51am ranjit:

It takes cruelty to write about pannenkoeken. I'm all hungry now.
Avatar 9:52am Cecile:

I'm just checking in. In a foul mood. Still look like a goddamn turtle from the "sunscreen incident".
Avatar 9:57am hamburger:

tim champaign - did you have them at Pancakes! ? those were good pancakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am tim from champaign:

Hamburger - I had them at the Upstairs Pancake House - a really tiny 4 table joint.
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

pronounced "mung" for the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Andrew Waterloo:

The Beatles played my art centre... I guess I won't share my strong feelings about the 'experience'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Scott McDowell:

Thank you Cecile
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am tim from champaign:

Cecile - I know there's a large Hmong population up your way. Do the Hmong have their own cuisine? Any Hmong restaurants in the Twin Cities?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Mike East:

I like almond milk better than cow milk, but this almond yogurt is complete crap. Good morning, all.
Avatar 10:09am Cecile:

Most vietnamese restaurants here are kind of pan-Vietnamese - country and city food - with a bit a Thai thrown in.

There is a fabulous Hmong market that opened up recently that I haven't been to yet. I'm told there are some things to eat there that haven't shown up in restaurants, and I want to get over there soon.
Avatar 10:11am hamburger:

fun thing I heard about vietnamese food is that a lot of vietnamese people don't use fridges(?!) the idea based on everything being fresh / think that's a generalization tho, but still..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am tim from champaign:

Cool. Thanks Cecile. I know the Hmong are nomadic people so I wondered if the adapted their cooking to where they are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am DCE:

Scott, you're not letting us STAR SHIT....I just want to STAR SHIT!
Avatar 10:13am Cory:

good morning everyone
Avatar 10:15am Cory:

didn't Sagan say we're all star shit?
  10:17am Jon DeLorme:

that last song was the jam
Avatar 10:17am Cheri Pi:

That Eternal Tapestry record is sooooooo good. I wish I lived in the big city sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Scott McDowell:

@DCE, sorry just sloooowwww today
Avatar 10:18am Chris from DC:

And this Duane Pitre thing is really nice.
Avatar 10:18am Dave B:

Greetings Friendship Netizens.
Avatar 10:21am Cheri Pi:

Cecile- report back your Hmong market findings, pretty please.
Avatar 10:21am Cecile:

Hamburger, they use fridges here, but their food is still super-fresh. Even the fast-food Chinese is better done by Viet people because they will find the best veg even in winter.
  10:21am Sigurdur:

Greetings Dave B Online
Avatar 10:21am Cecile:

I sure will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am DCE:

it's amazing how much great music is out there that so few have heard
Avatar 10:22am BSI:

I have a feeling now I'll be using the phrase STAR SHIT for the rest of my life.
  10:23am Sagan:

"We are all star shit."
  10:25am Sigurdur:

Does that have anything to do with Uranus?
Avatar 10:31am Dave B:

look out for the Milky Way those that are lactose intolerant
Avatar 10:33am Cory:

I thought you were dead. Oh shiznit, is this Contact? Are you my Daddy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am tim from champaign:

This Tom Carter and Pat Murano is definitely a jammer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Scott McDowell:

For reals.

Avatar 11:12am amEdeo:

This song is making me think of hotdogs, which is pretty weird given that I don't eat hotdogs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Scott McDowell:

Hey amEdeo!
Avatar 11:20am amEdeo:

Hey Scott! Hey humanfriends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am DCE:

very cool! sounded nothing like the other stuff I've heard by them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am DCE:

amEdeo, are you really sure we're all humans? I believe a good portion of us are sentient kale.
