WFMU website is kinda slow from here (Boston) --
  3:05pm ?:

it's working now.
  3:05pm Mark:

An Irrational Fear of Sailors is an excellent concept. If your math questions were more difficult, you could weed out the riffraff.

128k stream is fine though

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@hamburger: Did you adopt a DJ last Marathon? Then that's who it would be, IF no one else has staked a "car trunk" claim on them.

As of now: Mike Lupica does shows from Ken's trunk, Brian Turner from Cheri Pi's...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Hey there!
@Cecile: Talk is cheap, speech is FREE!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It appears Beyonce lip-synched the national anthem yesterday. Who else is shocked to hear that?

sounding great Jason! Great to hear the Lamps, hope the guy who requested it last week was listening!
Avatar 3:22pm Cecile:

you can say "roar".
They used to give that pronunciation in their ads back in that day.

Tim, no I did not. What was in your Surinamese pastie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm DCE:

you can bet your sweet bippy I will not
  3:22pm Joe B:

Hi Kat! (better late than never I hope!)
Avatar 3:22pm kat330:

Avatar 3:24pm kat330:

Hey, Joe! Mos def better than never. :)
  3:24pm Tom G:

can we get maybe another 90 min of Endless Boogie?
Avatar 3:25pm Cheri Pi:

I could eat a pastie right now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Fuzzy:

I ate pastie in kindergarten -- mmm mmm good!
  3:27pm tim from champaign:

@Kat: nope!

@Cecile: It was a lot like a samosa. Peas, potatoes, onions with a curry flavor.
Avatar 3:28pm Cecile:

ah. Like a Jamaican "pattie" which is really a pastie. Sounds yummy.
  3:29pm Patrick:

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh, buddy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Mike East:

that seals it...time to eat. Red Curry tofu from home.
Avatar 3:29pm glenn:

strippers wear pasties?
  3:29pm tim from champaign:

Makes sense.
  3:32pm Mark:

That's weird. Somebody posted a picture of a pastie on Facebook today. Now you guys are talking about pasties. I haven't thought about pasties in years. They're very popular in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Avatar 3:32pm Cecile:

I miss this one Guyanese place that closed down, which was next door to Suriname. It was a great combination of Latin, Caribbean, and Indian tastes.
Avatar 3:33pm Cecile:

Mark, I am from there originally, and Cheri has kin up there. They are in our minds a lot.
Avatar 3:34pm the glowing one:

looping two punk rock chords and then sing over it, it can't get more punk than that.
  3:36pm Mark:

I like Bill Baird's song "Your Dark Sunglasses Won't Make You Lou Reed," too. "Career" is a damn good record. Greetings to all my Yooper friends. I was living in Ann Arbor before moving to Manhattan last year.
Avatar 3:36pm BSI:

My in-laws are Detroit (area) folk: I've heard of these mystical food-bombs spoken of in reverential tones...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Jason, any word on how the New Birthday Song competition is going? I'm eagerly listening to all of them! Do you know when the decision comes out?
Avatar 3:38pm Cecile:

ha, mark, I went to school there.

If done right BSI, they are great. If not, they are depth charges of heartburn.
Avatar 3:38pm kat330:

Along those lines, what's your birth day and month, Jason?
Avatar 3:38pm Cheri Pi:

When I retire, I'm opening up a lazer Floyd tent in one of the UP's plentiful KOA campgrounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Lewis:

re: the birthday songs - in my quick listen, there are not very many real contenders. As I listened I realized that there are a some basic constraints: short, easy to sing by amateurs and fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Mike East:

since the last time the commentors were buzzing about pasties, I've been thinking about buying a food truck and selling them on the east coast. I feel like one could make a killing. any investors out there?
  3:39pm Marmalade Kitty:

arrive home, immediately devour all but a quarter of deli cooooked chicken! Damn! none left for teatime..!?
Avatar 3:39pm BSI:

Okay, the stapler is fukkin' history now.
Avatar 3:39pm pierre:

whoa !…
Avatar 3:39pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile's gonna be in charge of the lasers.
Avatar 3:39pm BSI:

(ref. the tune on Ektro)
Avatar 3:41pm Cecile:

Don't make em like Potters Pasties here, Mike East. They are just glorified Hot Pockets. Great ingredients, but they just don't push the right buttons. And I think a Thai chicken pastie is just kind of well, off.

Kitty, chicken is probably my worst weakness. I have to put it in the freezer when it's cooked or it is gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm DCE:

you know what I hate? when my wife calls me from home and says "the new computer you just bought won't do anything!" Now I'm all agitated and looking forward to hours of fun with Dell tonight.
  3:42pm Marmalade Kitty:

when I say quarter I mean a leg and wing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Matt from Springfield:

@MK: The munchies have all but killed teatime plans...
Avatar 3:42pm hamburger:

(what's this with the stapler BSI?)
Avatar 3:42pm kat330:

@Lewis: That's how I approached it -- narrow vocal range with simple words and notes. A children's song. Wish I could have managed to get a children's chorus singing it, but wasn't time.
Avatar 3:44pm Cecile:

hahahhaha, kitty. Been there.

Cheri, my stepmom, if she is still living, will be down with that.
My dad is still kind of freaked out by them - he's a rockabilly guy and quite get his head around that "rock" stuff.
Avatar 3:45pm kat330:

@Matt: Are you planning to fill out your profile with other images? I discovered just today that you can post animations to the profiles.
Avatar 3:45pm Cecile:

Jason, you gotta slow down, I favorited like 12 songs already.
  3:46pm Raf:

Hi Jason! What a nice surprise! Bookin' shows and listin' to wfmu
Avatar 3:46pm BSI:

@hamburger: they're so smug, being such durable goods. They must be made to suffer when we rock this hard. It makes sense in my head somehow.
  3:47pm Mark:

I've been duped. Cecile did you listen to WCBN when you were there?
  3:47pm Tom G:

I've been Duped ... aka Te'o's song
Avatar 3:48pm hamburger:

@BSI hah mine always get jammed / but I never really crunch staplers for relief, although I can see why that'd be fun.
Avatar 3:48pm Cheri Pi:

Make it pay BSI!!!
Avatar 3:48pm Cecile:

Mark, I was a DJ for four years in the 80s. Went on board the year after Ken left.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Like GIF animations? Actually the only thing I planned to do was crop this existing profile pic, and try to get a grey background so the black T-shirt has some contrast. Also I spent the weekend sick, then medicined up. So if all works out I should be back on track this week..:)
Avatar 3:48pm Faye:

fuck yes this song is what I needed to hear
Avatar 3:48pm Cheri Pi:

I want beer right now.
Avatar 3:49pm Cheri Pi:

Hurry so I can favorite this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm G:

@DCE: Hey, get that Dell running right before the company is taken private :-)

Avatar 3:50pm Cecile:

hahahha, is this Tyvek song about Detroit?
  3:51pm Mark:

Cool Cecile I hosted this Fall right before I moved here. Lots of fun!
Avatar 3:51pm kat330:

@Matt: Awww, I wondered where you were but, with the holiday, figured Pennsylvania. And yep, if you click the bottom-most R pic of my profile, you'll see what I mean. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Matt from Springfield:

@Tom G: Yeah, wacky news that is!
I can only hope that he still gets picked for an NFL team, so we can have many more quality years of him being duped and making the news.

"The coach told me he died of cancer, and said to win this for him. Then he was in the locker room, saying he wasn't sick and forgot to tell me..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Jason Sigal:

haha how about that endless boogie tho tom g??

Mark glad you're diggin that Bill Baird too! I was introduced to him through his wfmu session last year of Shrunken Planet.

this profile/friendship society thing is fun, huh?
Avatar 3:52pm Cecile:

it certainly was, and probably taught me more about stuff than school did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Ohhh, slick kat! :)
Made it yourself I assume from an old photog booth reel?
  3:53pm Gordon in Chappy:

Having been born in Wayne County - that felt good.
Avatar 3:53pm Patrick Stankard:

i've been bumping the parquet courts LP heavily today
  3:54pm Mark:

Thanks for playing him, Jason! Glad you enjoyed it Cecile. Some of the old-timers are still there from your era--Arwulf helped train me.
Avatar 3:54pm kat330:

@Matt: Philo animated it from an old headshot proofsheet. Actually three diff ones like that on the blogI'll probably rotate.

Oxnard, CA is more than 'outside of LA': It's up the coast past Santa Barbara & more inland almost like Bakersfield (aka 'Nashville West') ; Sometimes refered to in snooty sunny Santa Barbara as 'OxnErd'...Who cares here on the Right Coast though...
Avatar 4:00pm kat330:

Philo will be sorry to have missed the Kirjasto. Actually he'll be sorry to miss most or all the show, even coming home late tonight.
Avatar 4:02pm Cecile:

Arwulf is to WCBN what station manager Ken is to 'FMU.
I helped him do some shows back in the day, it was pretty impressive the kind of sound stories he would tell.
Avatar 4:02pm kat330:

@RevRab: Actually Oxnard is before Santa Barbara coming from L.A. Used to travel that route a fair bit when I lived in the SFV.
Avatar 4:04pm pierre:

bon, i think we can all agree that this is a fantastic show so far…
  4:05pm Tom G:

The Boogie was righteous. I had those licks bouncing around my brain for days, almost like a good kind of ringin in the ear. In that regard it was pretty close to endless.
Avatar 4:06pm BSI:

"A Day In The Life", as originally imagined...
Avatar 4:11pm BSI:

This Machine Death piece veers totally up into the space that Haunted Toilet was doing in Brooklyn, late '80s. Damn, it's spooky. In an epic nice way...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm cklequ:

I love the direction this track is headed.
Avatar 4:12pm kat330:

DCE: Hope you don't unintentionally hear this track while you're working on the Dell.
  4:14pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

...Looking @ map - I am wrong wrong wrong -!: Oxnard's even closer to LA than Ventura. That's just how they talk in Santa Barbara where I lived for too long. Appropriate for 'Talk is Cheap' Program - ! ...Into the gnarly technoid here now - ! Almost spooky 'Castle of Quiet' vibe for a second...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm joe:

Anybody else having a problem with the stuff that they favorite not showing in their profile? The tables show space like it should be there but the text does not appear. It does work in my phone browser though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Jason Sigal:

just got a caller asking "does your station play like a variety of music?"
Avatar 4:15pm kat330:

Yep, Ventura was my frequent destination.
Avatar 4:16pm kat330:

@Jason: How did you respond to that?
Avatar 4:17pm Cecile:

Joe, are you in IE? I had that problem before I switched to Firefox.

  4:18pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

"...does your station play like a variety of music?"
- No: Streaming 'Endless Boogie' 24/7.
  4:19pm Mark:

Yeah, "like" a variety. Not a variety exactly. Something similar to a variety.
Avatar 4:20pm kat330:

"like" as in "such as" and "you know" and so on.

@kat: Bocoors! :)

And, thanks to the new social media stuff, I know you think so! And you know I think so! And everyone knows someone called "iferreira" also thinks so!

...oh, and samosas...
Avatar 5:08pm pierre:

I will, BSI
Avatar 5:08pm kat330:

Oh, I can't get into that aspect, Matt, checking what everyone else is checking. Hard enough, clearly, even keeping a scrolling track of what I'm hearing in real time. :)
  5:16pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

- Wuz that a bazouki
- or are they just happy to see me?

...Truly: Of all the DJ's to ask if there's a Variety - !!!...That's probably why of course...
- But enuff about me caller:
- On a scale of 1 to 10 what is your favorite color of the alphabet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm northguineahills:

I only have a track of that Nico album from an old comp (rough trade?). Laurie Spiegal is always welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Ginger!
Avatar 5:19pm kat330:

Would anyone else find it useful to have a star to click that represents favoriting a DJ's set inside his/her show? I would.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow! "La musique traditionnelle de Mon", the traditional music of the Mon people, I actually saw some perform in Thailand! Their vocals are "noisy", and I rec'd to FMU DJs to play if they wanted something like that! :)

@kat330 - that would be very much to my liking...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: KENZO! Back to work...!
Avatar 5:21pm kat330:

Mmm, ginger reminds me of the slow-cooked pork loin we had last eve, w/ ginger and garlic 5-Chinese spice and all other things Asian. I do love ginger so much.
  5:22pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

You City People always Commenting here about availability of magnificent ethnic food - ! Hate hate hate you all...
Avatar 5:22pm kat330:

@iferreira: Mollusk!
  5:24pm Marmalade Kitty:

inspirational tunes!
Avatar 5:24pm kat330:

@RevRab: I have limited access to decent ethnic food in Knob Knee, Indiana (though better if I cross the river to Louisville), so I've learned to make it myself.
Avatar 5:25pm kat330:

Well, if I *did* have a star to favorite a set of the show today, it would be this set, Jason. Lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Stanley:

@ Marmalade Kitty. Thanks for pointing us in the UK to 38Degrees.org.uk
Just been browsing and I was impressed. Not only that but recognised someone I know too!
  5:29pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

Avatar 5:33pm kat330:

Hm, "no to" Chuckanoto warranting a star to click or not?
Avatar 5:36pm kat330:

(Chuck that extra "c" I typed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Jason Sigal:

hmm seems like i could make up an artist name for these releases with unknown artists so that they can be starred
Avatar 5:38pm kat330:

Go for it! Not Chuck ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Stanley:

@MK. I'm having a bit of a politically inspired week. Watched 'The House I live In' on the BBC, the documentary on the War on Drugs in America. Truly one of the most intelligent pieces of film making I've seen and if you haven't seen it, you can as it's still available on the iPlayer.
  5:39pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

Renamed Kabob Knee in your Honour then.
...This Show truly a Gourmandish Feast for the Synesthete- ! May I be excused teacher - ? My brain is full...
Avatar 5:39pm kat330:

Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Matt from Springfield:

All right, Indian cinema sounds!
@kat: Sounds like your neck of the woods (Kabob Knee) is diversifying a bit then! :)
@RRN63: Synesthetes are overwhelmed easily, here!
Avatar 5:44pm kat330:

@RevRab: Kabobs only on the grill in suitable weather.

@Matt: Only if *I* make it at home. Which is the cheaper and healthier choice in any event.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Already was doing good, but that tabla earned "Runa Laila" a Favorite star!!!
  5:44pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

War on Drugs: Reportedly more black men in prison now than there were slaves. Happy Martin King day.
  5:45pm Marmalade Kitty:

Thanks Stanley!
Avatar 5:47pm kat330:

It was Philo's perfect work attendance bonus that allowed us to make a nice annual pledge to FMU in December (and to Sandy recovery). He had that perfect attendance because of the wholesome home cooking he gets (and exercise whip cracking ;).
  5:50pm Marmalade Kitty:

RRN: You could probably say that about white yellow red and brown too.. too many people in the clink
Avatar 5:51pm kat330:

@MK: I imagine the documentary discusses how the prison system in the U.S. is about money -- greed being the source of most any ill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Stanley:

America - 5% of the world's population, 25% of the world's prison population.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Stanley:

@Kat330 - spot on. From the Corporations' point of view the War on Drugs has been a big success.
  5:55pm RevolutionRabbitNov63:

Finally figured out what that Black Future track's bass line reminded me of: Mission of Burma's "That's when I reach for my revolver," a song that "features a rare example of bass solo in a studio-recorded rock song." So Gong + Burma = Black Future? :)
