V:

I like this song
  12:11am
Holly in NC:

Good morning. Joe! Glad you're playing this - though there's no way I'll spring for the 6 cd shebang...
  12:13am
Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, there's a bit of an exploitation thing going on with VU releases
Avatar 12:13am
Joe McG:

Hey, V! Hey, Holly! Are there really six discs? Holy moly.
Avatar 12:14am
Joe McG:

Pretty soon they're going to put out that tape of Lou Reed's amp.
Avatar 12:15am
Joe McG:

Hey, Andrew! Velvesploitation!
  12:19am
Dave in PA:

...when I'm .... straaaaaight
  12:19am
Destroit:

hello Joe, holly, AW and the entire fun bunch. Let's play in the sandbox shall we.
  12:20am
Uncle Michael:

What an amazing song to cover as an instrumental.
Avatar 12:21am
Joe McG:

Hey, Detroit and Uncle Mike: Welcome to the Velvet Sandbox.
  12:22am
Chop Scott:

JOE! I'm here my friend..and happy as ever for the company!
  12:22am
Andrew Waterloo:

Hello Destroit

Joe McG:

Chop Scott! Thanks, as always, for coming along for the ride!
  12:24am
Uncle Michael:

Just found the Szabo track at Aquarium Drunkard. Whee!
  12:24am
Holly in NC:

Hi Destroit! @Dave - one of my all time faves, oddly heard Thin White Rope cover before original
  12:25am
Destroit:

Velvet Sandbox is being trademarked as we speak.
  12:26am
Droll:

I haven't heard a set of Beautiful Music like this since the 80's. Incredibly smooov instrumentals, thanks Joe!
  12:27am
Uncle Michael:

Velvet Elevator
  12:29am
Andrew Waterloo:

ewww.. this sandbox is full of needles and sunglasses
Avatar 12:29am
Joe McG:

@Droll: Thanks, man. I like Uncle Michael's idea: Riding the Velvet Elevator.
  12:31am
Uncle Michael:

I'm good for a six or seven hundred floors.
  12:35am
Destroit:

Haha, Waterloo, dirty filthy after-hours sandbox. It was cool until the new owners ruined it.
  12:42am
Chop Scott:

I'm a fan of the Brooklyn version of the classic Manhattan cocktail-switch out the sweet vermouth for dry --and a lemon peel.
  12:43am
Steve-O:

Hey Joe. First time I've listened to your show, and I'm liking everything I've heard so far, especially the Wilson track. =)
Avatar 12:43am
Joe McG:

Nice! Do they actually call it a Brooklyn? They ought to!
  12:44am
Uncle Michael:

What's in a Staten Island?
Avatar 12:44am
Joe McG:

@Steve-O: Thanks! The show is a little different every week, but I'm glad you like how this one has gone so far. I'm just trying to get the sand out of my mouth.
  12:47am
Andrew Waterloo:

This has a very similar ending to Hey Joe?
Avatar 12:47am
Joe McG:

@AW: You're absolutely right! I never even noticed before!
  12:49am
Uncle Michael:

I used the White Stripes version of Jolene on a show I did that was mainly rock versions of country songs. Candi Staton could sing me a subpeona and I'd like it.
Avatar 12:51am
Joe McG:

@UM: You said it. Candi is the greatest.
  12:53am
Andrew Waterloo:

I'm digging up my favourite Roberta Flack record for tomorrow morning... or maybe some late night procrastinative listening
  12:53am
Uncle Michael:

What's your favorite?
  12:54am
Andrew Waterloo:

First Take
  12:57am
Uncle Michael:

I have the vinyl...it's a little worn but I don't mind. $2 bin about three years ago.
  12:58am
Andrew Waterloo:

vinyl here too.. very good condition..$4
  1:02am
Uncle Michael:

I wonder if the vast FMU repository has the Jim Weatherly records I can't find.
Avatar 1:03am
Joe McG:

I'll have to look!
  1:04am
Uncle Michael:

No cover of this can touch Skip Pitts' opening guitar on the origina.
  1:05am
Uncle Michael:

Joe, see if you can find Midnight Plane to Houston!
Avatar 1:09am
Joe McG:

@UM: Sorry, but we have a disturbing number of Weather Report albums, but no Jim Weatherly, unless he's in the basement.
  1:11am
muhrvis:

Wow, Hooker...
  1:13am
Uncle Michael:

I appreciate you checking. Midnight Plane to Houston became Midnight Train to Georgia when Cissy Houston recorded it then again when Gladys recorded it. She also charted big time with several other Weatherly songs. Last Plane is actually about Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett...absolutely true story. Jim and Lee were buddies from Ole Miss where Weatherly has been an All-American at quarterback. He also led a goog band called the Gordian Knot who's album has been reissued on CD,
  1:15am
Holly in NC:

UM, that is fascinating!
Oh, and Betty xo
  1:17am
Andrew Waterloo:

I guess Cissy Houston didn't want to be mistaken for the destination in Midnight Plane to Houston.
  1:19am
Uncle Michael:

Actually the producer (name escapes me) just thought the train thing was more evocative...though you're probably right about the name part.
  1:20am
Uncle Michael:

Story is that he actually wrote after hearing Farrah on the phone with Lee and the conversation inspired the song.
  1:26am
Uncle Michael:

Niiiiiice, Joe....thanks!
  1:27am
Andrew Waterloo:

Houston isn't exactly sexy in any correct sense of the word.
  1:28am
Uncle Michael:

Unless Dean Martin is singing about it.
  1:33am
Andrew Waterloo:

yes indeed
  1:33am
Uncle Michael:

Swedish Hangover
  1:35am
Uncle Michael:

Mari sounds like a young Tom Waits.
  1:44am
Uncle Michael:

Joe, do you have access to the PP Arnold version of Angel of the Morning?
  1:44am
Mike Sin:

Nice! Just in time for "Single File"!
re: Ray Woolf -- great new CD comp of his ouput includes the monster "Little Things That Happen" as well.
Avatar 1:46am
Joe McG:

@UM: I'm sure I have it at home! Hey, Mike Sin! Thanks for the tip!
  1:47am
Mary Wing:

Was that last song spinning backward?
Avatar 1:48am
Joe McG:

@Mary: No, Mary, that's all you! That's the way it plays forward.

Thanks, Frenchy! I should have you here pitching for me! @KP: How was that movie, anyhow?
  2:29am

Great. Really. To see Robert De Niro actually acting, actually working was worth it alone. Highly recommended.

Is Frenchee posting from a Starbucks? Thought there were no Internets in NE.
Avatar 2:35am
Joe McG:

I haven't seen DeNiro in anything I've liked for a long time, sadly, so I'd like to see that.
  2:37am

Right. It's almost shocking. Easy supporting Oscar. And he's in it a lot.
