  12:27pm
BSI:

Avatar 12:32pm
kamikaze:

hey All! Thanks for tuning in! Today Bettina Richards owner/president of THRILL JOCKEY records is my guest. We may go on a bit late, but she'll be here; possibly a shorter version of peer pressure. It'll be killer though!!
  12:36pm
MenfussMike:

Me too John Lisa. I had to look at the playlist to make sure it was not King Diamond. Funny thing is KD had a solo album called Portrait, i think
  12:37pm
Cheri Pi:

My first thoughts too were King Diamond ;)
  12:38pm
BSI:

SWEDEN!
  12:39pm
Cheri Pi:

Sveden!
  12:40pm
paula pc:

can't wait to hear Bettina!!
  12:40pm
Cheri Pi:

This rules. Who starts a song with clippity clops????
  12:41pm
the glowing one:

I remember seeing an interview with Bettina on a documentary called "Lost in Music" in the 90s... it was about the Chicago music scene of that time :D I still have it on VHS tape.
  12:43pm
Cheri Pi:

This Realmbuilder is a "so bad it's good thing" right? right?
  12:45pm
Cheri Pi:

Diamond-Heady / with later Metallica thrown in for measure.
  12:50pm
the glowing one:

Torche \m/
but I suspect they might be bronies... their new album suggests that
  12:52pm
pierre:

Bonjour Diane !
Bonjour to all !
  12:53pm
BSI:

OH HELL YES AGAIN! (re: bad brains)
  12:55pm
John Lisa:

Diane's going for a neo-NWOBHM concept today whether she knows it or not.
  12:56pm
MenfussMike:

can someone say bon scott rip offs?
  12:57pm
Cheri Pi:

I like these ACDC kids
  12:58pm
Cheri Pi:

damnit I had to take an unimportant call and miss a more important song by Bad Brains!!!
  12:58pm
John Lisa:

I think that was the intention!! High Voltage, 77, Decibels? You think this was done on purpose????
  1:03pm
Cheri Pi:

RROOAARR!!!
  1:05pm
BSI:

i approve this massage.
  1:06pm
Kevin:

I'm dissapointed Liturgy is playing the Festival with real geniuses such as Tortoise.
  1:08pm
KP:

Ultra rocking awesomeness.
  1:09pm
KP:

Pierre, good day!
  1:10pm
Cheri Pi:

It doesn't get much more rocking than this...
  1:11pm
Kevin:

Yes it does.
  1:12pm
Cheri Pi:

... not yet Kevin...not yet
  1:12pm
MenfussMike:

if you are gonna rip off a band, it might as well be bon scott era ac/dc. there is actually a pretty good KISS rip off band called 1977
  1:14pm
Kevin:

Mutilation Rites rules though
  1:20pm
Cecile:

oh, I'm late.
  1:22pm
Cheri Pi:

Cecile! If this was Girls' School (the band) you'd have a few demerits.
  1:23pm
John:

great playlist so far, Bettina!
  1:23pm
Cecile:

How many hate calls from Sea and Cake members does Bettina get for signinig headbangers?

Is the staff of Thrill Jockey one of the following:
a) headbangers to the haunted manor of witches true
b) interested fellow-travellers
or
c) strictly like it when metal bands put out "records even non-metalheads can like."
  1:24pm
Cecile:

no, man, I'd get points because I'd probably be late because I'd be bringing beer...
  1:25pm
Cecile:

If a) or b) do you say a) "new way of british heavy metal" or b) "nu-woh-bim?"
If b), why? It sounds really stupid.
  1:25pm
Cecile:

excuse me, "wave" not "way"
  1:30pm
jamie:

We say NWOFHM
  1:31pm
BSI:

Pier Platters! Waah!
  1:31pm
Cecile:

what does the "F" stand for?
  1:36pm
Cecile:

what was the first record you bought as a youngster?
  1:40pm
Cecile:

I try not to show much enthusiasm in person becaue it usually terrifies people.
  1:43pm
Cecile:

this sounds like Go-gos played on kazoos. It's kind of awesome.
  2:08pm
Cecile:

OH NO.
  2:09pm
Cecile:

but seriously, thanks for the great set!
  2:11pm
paula pc:

ah, Brother JT!!!!
  2:11pm
BSI:

JAY TEEEEEE!
  2:12pm
Cecile:

hahahahahahahahaha
priceless.
  2:12pm
Cheri Pi:

hahahaha!!!! I love it. That answers so many questions about your label.
  2:14pm
Cheri Pi:

I stand in solidarity with Francis!!
  2:17pm
northguineahills:

Wait, i missed the first section of Bettina Richards' Peer Pressure Segment? Must hit the archives later.
  2:18pm
tim from champaign:

I must admit that I've become a fan of the tape again. I've been having a blast making mix tapes again too. A few beers+making a mix tape=tons of fun!
  2:20pm
baconfat:

Cecile: you know that Bettina lives with one of The Sea And Cake members, and has 2 of his babies, right?
  2:20pm
northguineahills:

I basically stopped making mixtapes once I moved to nyc, as I know longer had a car to listen to them, and that's one of the joys of listening to a mixtape.
  2:21pm
Cecile:

I miss the idea of the mix tape. I don't miss the actuality.
  2:22pm
Cheri Pi:

I'm back on tapes too after rediscovering the cotton swab and a bit of alcohol, I have a boom box rigged through the pioneer and it sounds great. now at cp/hq I ONLY listen 'tallica on cassette.
  2:22pm
Droll:

There's a great cassette archival website digitizing 80's era traded tapes, scanning the J-cards, and even photographing both sides of the cassettes themselves:
http://noise-arch.net/
  2:23pm
Cecile:

baconfat, I actually didn't know that.
hhahahahahaha, so it's even funnier.
  2:24pm
Cheri Pi:

It's way funnier. Cecile, you missed a song earlier that started out with a horse clippety clopping, it reminded me of our Muley.
  2:26pm
Cecile:

aw, muley.
We should write up a post for Beware of the Blog about our true power metal concept album.
  2:30pm
BSI:

It may be sacrilege (being a graduate of '80s cassette culture) but god I hated the format. Sure, it was "the people's medium" back then but hell, we got options now...
  2:32pm
BSI:

that said, I'm currently having a blast digitizing a huge stack of archives...
  2:33pm
Cheri Pi:

I think so Cecile-baby. It's time the world learned about the world's bravest, most truest power metal mule.
  2:33pm
Cheri Pi:

when I say RRROOOOAAAARRRR on the comments board, I sound like these guys right here.
  2:37pm
Cecile:

hahahahaha, cultfinder sounds like couchsurfer for the spiritually confused.
  2:38pm
Cecile:

Testimonial: "I put in the keywords 'black, thrashing terror' and found a cult that fit me!"
  2:40pm
Cheri Pi:

I must sign this band. Cecile, get them on the phone for me...I bet they're thrashing out in their mom's parlor in ENgland somewhere.
  2:41pm
Cheri Pi:

"Black Thrashing Terror" my arse... I want the lot of you out of my parlor, my stories are on.
  2:43pm
Cecile:

Is Coronation Street still on?
  2:43pm
BSI:

I keep seeing "Deathsmell Omega" which is also quite the awesome.
  2:45pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh Cory's still on. But I can't hear it due to the black thrashing terror!!! Can't these boys go round the pub?
  2:47pm
Cecile:

did malcolm dome write that press release? How many K's did it get?
  2:48pm
northguineahills:

Now I can't see it, BSI, lol (coxhill).
  2:52pm
Cheri Pi:

Yeah, Lecherous Gaze makes me bang my head sideways...the undeniable sign that I'm truly being rocked.
  2:53pm
Jim Devoid:

LG is X- Annihilation Time, correct?
  2:54pm
Cheri Pi:

VOIVODDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2:55pm
Cecile:

voivod! and good by!
Avatar 2:56pm
kamikaze:

yes Jim, you are correct!
  2:57pm
Jim Devoid:

Well, F me! They just played literally down the block from me a few daze ago and I blew it off (kid's 1st day in school, etc)....
  2:59pm
dc p@:

I just bit my lip really hard, dammit..
