Listener comments!

  3:08am Martyn:

Good morning Bill and all.

A nice gentle start to the show. I guess it won't stay that way.
Avatar 3:12am Bill Mac:

  3:14am Jay/ London:

  3:26am KP:

Hey Bill, remind me to get off at my stop.
  3:30am Andy in Berlin:

Yipe, I just tuned in to find I missed Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll!
Avatar 3:32am Bill Mac:

Wow Jay, what happens when the Olympics are done? I would think since things have gone so well that it'll be a little sad to see them go. I've been exposed to it enough to feel a little wistful
Avatar 3:32am Bill Mac:

I know what Andy likes now!
  3:35am jamesie:

Its an oasis of lovely listening -esp. Wyatt - thank you Bill
  3:36am Andy in Berlin:

No one REALLY knows what Andy likes, not even Andy
  3:38am Jay/ London:

well bill back to watching old films and catching up on the music i guess .... loved the last set :)
  3:42am Stanley:

Morning Bill - you're drinking what exactly?
Avatar 3:44am Bill Mac:

Thanks, Jay....and Stanley, I'm drinking Tetley tea, generally run of the mill but tasting less... something... btw, I wanted to thank you again for the Viv show. I listened to more than 1/2 of it and learned a couple new things about the man.
  3:45am KP:

Sounds greeeet. Halfway there.
Avatar 3:46am Bill Mac:

KP Thanks dood...
  3:51am Andy in Berlin:

time to run down to the library and dig out the Blodwyn Pig
Avatar 3:52am Bill Mac:

Yeah! I got some of that on my ipod.... I'll revisit and share.
  3:52am jamesie:

the Tull track woke me up at 14 years none better
  3:54am Brian in UK:

Mornin' Bill & folks. Early dog walk to beat the heat.
KP Are we there yet?
  3:55am Brian in UK:

The watery pink of old Island records. Paper Sun.
Avatar 3:56am Bill Mac:

Hey Brian - It's hot over there now?
  4:03am Brian in UK:

It is hot, Bill. Saw Blodwyn Pig supporting Love Feb '70. I think Mick Abrahams is still around.
  4:07am Stanley:

Tetley - the working man's cuppa. Glad you're enjoying the Viv show.
  4:11am Brian in UK:

How're you doing Jay? Getting back in the swing.
Stanley. It occured to me this week that when I was young I used to listen on Saturday mornings to Childrens Favourites with a character called Uncle Mac talking in between records. Things have not changed much!!!
Avatar 4:13am Bill Mac:

Just entertaining bigger kids....
  4:17am Jay/ London:

Hi Brian nice and hot here i have a chest pain going to a& e soon to have it checked out
Avatar 4:17am Bill Mac:

You guys know much about the Grey Whistle Test?
Avatar 4:19am Bill Mac:

@Jay What's this all about? Is it severe?
  4:22am Stanley:

@Brian Family Favorites I remember but not Children's Favourites. There used to be a children's show on WFMU. It was very good.
  4:24am Martyn:

Oh my, Childrens Favourites, Family Favourites, been there, done that.
  4:24am jamesie:

There was a great show which used to run on BBC2 before Old Grey Whistle test called Disco 2 - Unlike the title it was v experimental with psychedelic visuals and 'head' music (progressive) as BBC used to call it. Pressing my eyelids up to the screen on the Sony Trinitron on acid
  4:25am Jay/ London:

@ bill just talking to the NHS phone service now
  4:25am Stanley:

The Old Grey Hairy Vest starring Whispering Bob - Bill that was all there was back in the day. Great show, bit old hippy but we we're were all a bit hippy then (and still are I suupose)
Avatar 4:26am Bill Mac:

@Stanley, Greasy Kid Stuff with Hova and Belinda
  4:27am Martyn:

Was Anne Nightingale on the OGWT too, or is my memory playing tricks again?
Avatar 4:30am Bill Mac:

I'm hoping that there's enough old footage out on youtube to watch some of the programming. I caught an Alex Harvey thing on there that made me wonder how much other stuff is out there that I can watch. It was probably on par with The Midnight Special here in the states. It's how I got my first look at Genesis with Peter Gabriel.
  4:32am Brian in UK:

Showing my age Stanley! I think the man's name was Derek McCulloch. Memory?
The FMU show was fun.
Bill, the OGWT ran for a long time playing 'serious' music. It was a good introduction to many styles of music. Live in studio playing. One cartoon to music per week for those stoned. The title came from the idea that if the doorman could whistle the tune it would be popular.
  4:33am KP:

Thanks Bill, your a life saver, or a least a juicy fruit.
Avatar 4:34am Bill Mac:

That's just the kind of useless trivia I was looking to wring out of you Brian! Love the doorman detail.
  4:35am Stanley:

Bill - The Bonzos, Beefheart, all our favortes have at some time been on the show. It also ran a New Year's Eve review of the year and as a tender teenager I remember one year (1974?) They played that wonderful cartoon of 'Basketball Jones', check that out if you haven't seen it.
  4:36am Stanley:

Mash it Up!
  4:36am KP:

Old Grey Whistle Test. I have alot on boots. Yeah, hippie but ... by far best on it, not even close, is John Cooper Clark. Beasley Street.
Avatar 4:38am Bill Mac:

That's me, KP, I'll be stuck on your shoe later...
Avatar 4:40am Bill Mac:

@Stanley Basketball Jones by Cheech and Chong...I had a crazy music teacher that used to give us self control tests by playing us C & C records. If you laughed you failed
  4:42am Brian in UK:

Stanley, love what John Peel mentioned of Viv S ringing up the Captain for a chat.
  4:44am KP:

Old Grey Whistle test was almost always live.
  4:44am Stanley:

@Bill - did he say class, claass, claaas, CLAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!
  4:44am Jay/ London:

thihk there is a dvd box set of the OGWT
  4:46am Brian in UK:

@jamesie just remembered Colour Me Pop. Ring any bells?
  4:48am Andy in Berlin:

I don't know if there's a box set of Beat Club, but individual dvds are available. Great German rock show from back then
  4:48am Brian in UK:

Ariel Bender?
  4:50am M:

That Sharks Cd cover is freaky looking http://www.amazon.com/Jab-It-Yore-Eye-Sharks/dp/B005Q36XOI
  4:53am Brian in UK:

Did Chris Spedding have a hit with Motorbiking?
Avatar 4:56am Bill Mac:

another bizarre TV moment occurred last weekend. I saw a Womble movie... I thought I heard that Spedding was a band member.... ring any other bells? I do recall Motorbiking... he also did something called Rockers Jubillee where he mimicked stars of the days guitar licks.
  4:57am jamesie:

@brian yes cmp - once tuned in to 3 after 6 and saw the fugs leering into the b&w camera in 1965 doing crystal liaison live. sheer bliss - I was 11 but understood what was happening - i could not cope now.
  4:59am Brian in UK:

I remember this cover getting a bit of stick at the time.
Any artiste mentioning football will be paid off immediately.
  5:00am Brian in UK:

@jamesie I was so much older then I'm younger than that now.
  5:06am noob:

chris spedding was a womble - and produced first sex pistol demo - source recent visit wiki
  5:06am Brian in UK:

Bill no one is going to admit Womble knowledge.
  5:06am Stanley:

Jeez Bill - The Wombles, I've spent thousands on therapy due to them!
  5:07am slugluv1313:

REMEMBER YOU'RE A WOMBLE!!! oh yes i DO remember them courtesy of Scott Muni's "Things From England" show on WNEW-FM, 1970s -- but WOW had NO idea about the Spedding connection!!!
  5:07am KP:

Re: Nesmith and Monkees, apparently they are not buying Liquid Paper the way the used to.
  5:08am Stanley:

Its the tea, Bill. Change your brand immediately.
Avatar 5:10am Bill Mac:

I dunno Stanley... it tastes awful but I think I'm channeling even more useless facts...
  5:11am Brian in UK:

I stand corrected. Scary.
Stanley. Any time you want to talk........ I'll give you Mike Batt's number.
  5:11am M:

do you have the Banana Splits theme song
Avatar 5:14am Bill Mac:

Seems that I've struck a nerve here...
  5:17am Stanley:

@Brian, Mike Batt's the sort of person that haunts us in our dreams. But I don't want to offend, as he's a friend of yours.
  5:20am Stanley:

(Ahem.. change of subject) Now the Flying Lizards were an interesting band.
  5:22am Stanley:

Jay - how you doing?
Avatar 5:23am Bill Mac:

I'll 2nd that... their first album was groundbreaking
  5:24am Brian in UK:

This was at a time when Virgin released interesting one-off singles.
Avatar 5:24am Bill Mac:

Yeah, where's Jay?
Avatar 5:27am Bill Mac:

I know! I was committed to find any of the Virgin singles XTC released...
  5:31am M:

Bill do you remember this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS_TmRtoO2k ... Kaptain Kool & The Kongs
Avatar 5:33am Bill Mac:

That show was too cool for me....
  5:33am KP:

Yee-haw, the jamboree! Super coolness.
  5:36am KP:

Bet Leslie West was happy to be incuded in that company.
  5:38am Andy in Berlin:

I always loved that organ number you're using. Patricia!
Avatar 5:41am Bill Mac:

People love this CD... I had backup copies in case this one meets an unfortunate demise.... or CD-napping
5:42am Brian in UK (one of the bigger kids):

Great mix today, Bill.
Have a peaceful weekend everyone.
Avatar 5:43am Bill Mac:

Brian, thanks for playing... be safe... see you next week
  5:43am KP:

I saw Spedding with Robert Gordon. When the tickets were sold it was supposed to be Link Wray with him. Maybe that was the negative. Spedding was very reserved, not the foil Gorden needed. But i love that track you played, maybe because he is a little conservative on it.
Avatar 5:45am Bill Mac:

Wow, nice... I'm trying to remember if Link was with Gordon when we saw him.... I wouldn't have been as impressed back then unfortunately
  5:58am Stanley:

Another great show, setting me up fine for the weekend. You take care bro'.
Bye all.
  5:59am KP:

Thank you, Bill!
Avatar 6:00am Bill Mac:

Another one for the books folks.... take care until next week!
