Mo - you are like this gentle rain we are having - after a long hot dry day. Ah....!
Avatar 7:06pm
monica:

cb1, that sounds absolutely lovely.

Parq:

G'evning, my fair queen of dreamy. Here as a live listener, at least for a little while.

texas scott:

when I was a kid record-hunting at the Salvation Army store,I came across a Spanky and Our Gang album.I was SO excited, thinking it was the soundtrack to the tv show.
Avatar 7:21pm
monica:

aw, that's a cute one, t'scott.
  7:22pm
Jeff:

So, about that Eleni Mandell song a little while ago.

Not only did her style of delivery remind me pleasingly of that particularly croony way k.d. lang sometimes gets, I have to say that - because there's just so much stoopid out there - I'm inordinately pleased when a songwriter knows that a light-year is a measure of distance. Sad, eh?
  7:23pm
Parq:

T'Scott, surely after you got over your disappointment, you realized you'd found a gem. By the way, were you wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters?
  7:23pm
tomB:

Viva Alice! What LP was that. I thought I had her oeuvre memorized.
  7:25pm
frenchee:

hello Mo=lovers, I just heard that Celeste Holm died.
This Mandrill cut is ever so refreshing
Avatar 7:25pm

jeff, nicely put. i love eleni mandell and it's been far too long between albums....parq, hear hear - spanky + og are so terrif...tomB, from a lovely album called eternity.
  7:27pm

Parq,I was so sad,I never played it.
And I'm sure I was wearing some fashionable Kmart ensemble.

Sissy Bars

Dave in PA:

...and a 68 Pontiac in the garage!
  7:38pm
frenchee:

no, the SEAT was banana.
  7:38pm
ken in denver:

Ape hangers!
  7:38pm
Dafydd:

Sting Ray handle bars?
  7:39pm
12539:

"Ape hanger" handlebars!
  7:39pm
frenchee:

yes,m Dafydd, STINGRAY
  7:39pm
Dafydd:

Sissy bars are what held the banana seat up in the back!
  7:39pm
ken in denver:

A sissy bar goes behind a banana seat.
  7:39pm
Jbates:

They're called ape hangers. Because it looks Like your hanging from tree branches.
  7:41pm
Jbates:

April March sings about riding a motorcycle with "no sissy bar"
  7:41pm
CB1:

Every ape hanger is looking for a banana seat.
  7:41pm
frenchee:

In Indiana we called them stingrays and also butterfly handlebars
  7:41pm
Dafydd:

I ordered a pair for my current bike - better seating position.
  7:42pm
ken in denver:

April March is no sissy.
  7:43pm
Jbates:

She's tough.
  7:44pm
Dafydd:

Isn't it March April?
  7:45pm
Parq:

We have had zero-tolerance Noise Police above and below us, though I am relieved to say, not at the same time. Management has a whole file of complaint letters about us. Fortunately, everybody else knows us well enough that we aren't in serious danger of official hassle. We do nonetheless keep on display in our apt a mail-card with a photo of the broker who sold our downstairs neighbors' apt. so they could move to the suburbs where they belong.
  7:45pm
tomB:

Banana refers to the seat on a Stingray bike, n'est-ce pas? Is that a '65-'66 Chevy in the garage?
  7:46pm
Dafydd:

Pontiac and probably 1967
  7:46pm
CB in MoTown:

A lot of purple coordination going on there.. Nice call Ken in CO- looks like a Le Mans in garage.

  7:47pm
Jbates:

@parq: not at the same time? That seems to make noise at any time pretty hatd
  7:48pm
Jeff:

Yeah, I think "Stingray" was the whole bike, not just the handlebars thereon.

  7:51pm

That bike reminds me of the neato German bike I watched this week on http://youtu.be/tViGRhZrj60 -- powered by arms and legs. Like a rower, sorta?

1977 lived in the Earle Hotel on Waverly Place and McDoodle :) now called the Washington Square Hotel I think.
Joan Baez sang it in "Diamonds and Rust" as "That lousy hotel over Washington Square".
Anyway lived there for a couple years at $75 a month (shared bath).
Very interesting neighbors came and went. Experienced alot for a 20 year old.
Topic just flooded the old brain. Sorry for few details.
Love your show!

The seat is the banana.

The high bars are Ape Hangers.
