Morning Doug. Who is the dude with short fuse?
  8:38am holland oats:

can i stop watching good morning america now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am Doug Schulkind:

Morning Annie! (What personalized schedule?)

Hiya Duke and Holland Oats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am Doug Schulkind:

Duke, that radioactive moustache belongs to Georges Brassens. Listen for him in set #3 or maybe #4. Or, er, #5. But probably #3.
  8:44am Frank in VT:

Hmm, your show doesn't have a plug on the WFMU homepage like it usually does. I figured you didn't have your show now. But when I went to your "GTDS stream info" link, I realized that you are in fact live...
  8:45am annie:

the new drummer dj stream schedule. was that up last week?
  8:45am Van in DC:

Good morning Doug and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am Doug Schulkind:

@Frank in VT
The plug on the homepage will pop up at 9am. The show goes LIVE then. (As you can see, the playlist page is already live.) Would you like to get on my mailing list? I use it to send out email alerts when the stream's shows are about to go live. If so, send a request to drummer (at) wfmu [dot] org.

@Annie
The stream's schedule has been around for a year or more. I guess I could do a better job hyping it!

@Van
Your presence is devine. And maybe divine.
  8:50am annie:

ahh.. might be a brain fart.. i'm sure i remember seeing the regular schedule after the "info" click .. wow, i'm out of it.. what year is this, anyway?
  8:50am Van in DC:

This Monk tune is fairly divine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am Doug Schulkind:

@Van
Yeesh, I had to fade out Mr. Monk to connect my feed. Can I ever forgive myself.
  8:54am holland oats:

  9:06am kat330:

  9:08am kat330:

Oh, Holly, Chthulu would eat that up (and that zombie in Miami)!
  9:08am ndbob:

Hi Kat, Holly, Annie, Frank Holland and people I missed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Doug Schulkind:

That is one bad-ass pizza, Holly. I think I stick with a PG-13 rated pie.

@kat330
Speaking of PG-13, you can wear anything or nothing you iike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Doug Schulkind:

@Holland
I searched my usual blog sources for Septeto Anacaona, with no luck. I'll keep poking around.
  9:10am kat330:

I realized how poorly phrased my first comment was and thought I'd get in a preemptive on it. :)

GTDS is a fuzzy ear slipper.
  9:51am Matt from Springfield:

It's always fuzzy, but comfortable here.

  9:56am holland oats:

@drummer in that case it was $50k
  9:59am Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful Scottish folk block! Any Dick Gaughan coming up?

Like Dick, I love Hamish or any Scottish folk sung in "barely" English.
  10:00am Paul Sherratt:

Doug,
Alasdair Roberts' The Crook Of My Arm ' is a fixture in the player. Saw him earlier this year - must put up a picture or two of him.

holland, I've checked my shelf I don't have a copy ... funny old label Harlequin - never keen to get their releases aired on the radio it seemed to me !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Doug Schulkind:

@Matt
I hovered over a Dick Gaughan record last night and didn't pull the trigger.
  10:01am dc pat:

sorry thought I detected an Irish accent...carry on..
  10:02am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks anyhow Doug, I like the ammo you did fire, and got some great new leads.
  10:04am Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of which, thank you much for typing out the upcoming stream artists on Charlie's playlist yesterday! I was thus able to track "Sausalito Bay" by Smokey and His Sister, now I'm going on a buying spree of their re-released CD and any other tracks I can find by that duo! Wonderful 60s folk rock if anyone else loves that stuff.
  10:06am holland oats:

@paul - the only thing i have on harlequin is their ciro rimac thing, love that record
  10:06am ndbob:

I remember their song "Creators of Rain" really well - a song that was covered by Ian and Sylvia - and by Claudine Longet
  10:06am holland oats:

@paul - thanks for checking though!
  10:08am Van in DC:

Doug, shouldn't that be our task? To gaze lovingly at your other playlists? And oh by the way, while you're at it... :)
  10:09am Fiveash:

I honestly thought that Catherine Howe might be Dusty Springfield stepping outside her comfort zone! Anyone else hear the similarity? Maybe the caffeine just hasn't kicked in yet.
  10:09am ricardo montalban:

Groovy show, Doug!
  10:10am Pascal:

G'morning all, et merci pour le Brassens, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Doug Schulkind:

@Fiveash!
Your are not the only one to make the Dusty connection with Ms. Howe. I just read something last night to that effect.

@Van
OK, friend, you are tasked with scrolling through 17 years of playlists. (No, please don't. Go outside and enjoy the sunlight.)

Hello there Ricardo M and Pascal. (You are right on time, Pascal!)
  10:12am Paul Sherratt:

Somewhere, somewhere, La Prière is on a dvd in this room ...
  10:12am Shaun:

Brassens!. Can Jake Thackray be far behind, Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Doug Schulkind:

@Shaun
I am not familiar w/Jake Thackray! (I know, I know, a deejay should never admit not knowing anything.)
  10:14am Matt from Springfield:

Hey NDbob!
Reviews were saying how "Creators of Rain" was their one mainstream success, on account of other people covering it.
  10:15am Paul Sherratt:

Jake was a Yorkshire Brassens, Doug.
  10:16am ndbob:

hey Matt!... I remember seeing them perform it on the Kerby Scott Show.. Kerby was a DJ in Baltimore
  10:16am Van in DC:

Actually, Doug. You might request the mighty Kenzo to provide you a custom "longest title search" :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

This Colette Magny album may be the first-ever recording by French woodwind player Louis Sclavis.

Thanks for the word, Paul. I will hunt down Mr. Thackray post haste.

Van, I have no doubt Kenzo could do it, too!
  10:19am Shaun:

*A* Yorkshire Brassens? You mean there was more than one? (He stayed and studied with GB. An imitator down to the foot-up-on-the-monitor guitar style, but a good 'un).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Doug Schulkind:

Wikipedia...

John Philip "Jake" Thackray (27 February 1938 – 24 December 2002), was an English singer-songwriter, poet and journalist. Best known in the late 1960s and early 1970s for his topical comedy songs performed on British television, his work ranged from satirical to bawdy to sentimental to pastoral, with a strong emphasis on storytelling, making him difficult to pigeonhole. Jake Thackray sang in a lugubrious baritone voice, accompanying himself on a nylon-strung guitar in a style that was part classical, part jazz. His witty lyrics and clipped delivery, combined with his strong Yorkshire accent and the northern setting of many of his songs, led to him being described as the "North Country Noël Coward", a comparison Thackray resisted, although he acknowledged his lyrics were in the English tradition of Coward and Flanders and Swann "who are wordy, funny writers". However, his tunes derived from the French chansonnier tradition: he claimed Georges Brassens as his greatest inspiration, and he was also influenced by Jacques Brel and Charles Trenet."
  10:23am kat330:

Hard to find better influences than Coward and Brel, heroes of mine. [a brief stop-in here]
  10:26am still b/p:

You get right back out in that noonday sun with the MD and E!
  10:26am Paul Sherratt:

Shaun,
They would have had a spare, somewhere in Leeds.

Doug,
Possibly Jake's best recorded work was live where the audience appreciation helps.. the studio stuff tends to be over-produced to my ears ( not JT's fault I'm sure )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Doug Schulkind:

I see that there is a "Best of the EMI Years" box set called "Jake in the Box."
  10:28am Pascal:

Outstanding set. Have these albums appeared in motherlode mining posts?
  10:28am Paul Sherratt:

Not one to rush out buy, imo, Doug ! ( I have it )
  10:30am Shaun:

@Paul S. "Tell that to the young people of today...&c".

I'm not ashamed to say I only really know him from the BBC stuff where, as Paul says, the audience does help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Doug Schulkind:

@Pascal
I think a Magny and maybe a Brassens have appeared in the Motherlode, but not in the last year or more.

@Paul
Don't worry, I rarely rush out and buy anything anymore.
  10:34am Pascal:

That Laforêt chanson was a fave on a ghost capital/holy warbles mix. How I miss owl them new old tracks...

  10:43am Paul Sherratt:

Shaun, "Tell that to the young people of today...&c".
Funny but I heard that phrase a few times last weekend. I was at a wedding just north of York ( Old )

( Hon mention for the rather fine band who came up from London to play in the evening ' The Bishops ' )

Re: Owl. I'm deep into some research on the home taping wars of the early 80s, and here's what a librarian at the University of Georgia had to say about things in 1983:
