Listener comments!

  12:05pm
jt:

i thought i had all the MBV stuff and here i am not remembering this song
  12:05pm
Cecile:

Hey, Duane!
  12:05pm
northguineahills:

I thought I had pretty much everything from MBV, but this one slips my mind.
  12:06pm
northguineahills:

so close to a simulpost!
  12:07pm
Duane:

Hey Cecile.
JT: THat MBV track was on the remastered reissues that just came out. It was unreleased
  12:08pm
Cecile:

We didn't have you at our Aidswalk, Duane, but we had Apollo Cobra doing this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx4Lz3w-9QE
Darn good live.
  12:10pm
Duane:

Cecile: Awesome!! Luv that
  12:12pm
robyn:

good morning all...had to catch last week's show on the archive. enjoyed j-zone.
  12:13pm
Cecile:

They were using a B-3 organ for the keyboard stuff at the walk. I was impressed. The vid is soooo Minneapolitan... I used to work near a couple of the places where they were shooting...
  12:14pm
tinaun:

hello all. long time no see
  12:14pm
Mike East:

Hey guys. Checkin' in on a hazy NY afternoon.
  12:15pm
robyn:

:( RIP Donna.
  12:17pm
paula pc:

donna was/is my favorite of the Really Big Divas
  12:18pm
Caryn:

Fabulous single from Donna!
  12:18pm
Duane:

Hello Mike!! Thanx for checkin in
RIP Donna Summer!
  12:19pm
max:

Actually the mbv song wasnt unreleased, it was a b-side to the only shallow single
  12:22pm
Duane:

max: yes you're right!! Never owned that one
  12:27pm
still b/p:

For some reason, a permanent memory of Donna Summer is an appearance with Carson, I think, when she talked about her lighter, crazier side that she said people didn't know about, and made the point with a demonstration of goofy faces.
  12:29pm
northguineahills:

Am I the only that just discovered Google's Moog doodle today? Lots of fun.
  12:30pm
tinaun:

@north
me too
it's pretty great
  12:31pm
still b/p:

I requested a Ken performance on it for us. No go.
  12:34pm
Cecile:

It's not working on my computer, it keeps clicking through.
Aw, yeah, Robin Gibb.
  12:50pm
Cecile:

Duane, are you familiar with the "Aloha Got Soul" blog?
  12:51pm
robyn:

i watched "sweetback" a few months ago. i was impressed in retrospect with how entertaining it was considering half of it is just a guy running through the desert.
  12:54pm
Duane:

Cecile: Yes, I love that blog. My friend Michael contributes to that blog quite a bit.
Robyn: That movie is surprisingly endearing right?
  12:55pm
Cecile:

It is amazing how tight some of those cocktail lounge bands were!
  1:04pm
Cecile:

Tony Coulter has no problem with it!
  1:07pm
Droll:

Why is prog considered a guilty pleasure at FMU? DMandl also struggles with the "appropriateness" of prog. I love it without shame.
  1:10pm
Duane:

Droll: I love prog, but I feel like each time you start to play it, it sticks out like a sore whatever..but THATS why I love it. The best Prog is also kind of the most obnoxious:)
  1:12pm
robyn:

yeah it's a good movie. the dramatic setup is so strong in the beginning that it makes the run compelling. plus, the music is so good. "come on feet!"
  1:14pm
northguineahills:

I agree w/ Duane's assessment.
  1:18pm
Droll:

I have to agree with Duane also, but unlike some kinds of music which are meant to confound and be obnoxious (ie: Renaldo and the Loaf), prog is totally sincere and should to be listened to that way.
  1:20pm
northguineahills:

banging Theo Parrish track....
  1:21pm
Cecile:

I like some prog-leaning stuff, but some of that classic futzy stuff makes me as nervous as a mutt before a thunderstorm.

ITA, NGH.
  1:27pm
Mike East:

A really big ship full of seamen just pulled up on the river. I guess its fleet week.
  1:29pm
northguineahills:

I have no idea how to listen to music anymore. It's just there and part of the experiential environs. If it does something to the tissue confined by my dura mater, so be it.

(wth am I talking about? must be something in the weather)
  1:32pm
northguineahills:

cabbies aren't supposed to have music playing.
  1:35pm
Mike East:

I prefer when cabbies play music to that dumb TV spitting ads and bad movie reviews at me. Many have npr on, too, which is also preferable.
  1:36pm
oddmunds:

:D
  1:37pm
jonwayne:

This cabbie semed to be very adament about his love for Beiber and really got pissed we werent in the nation
  1:37pm
mido:

yo something in your signal chain is clipping the fuck out when you speak... this happened last week too... just a heads up
  1:39pm
duane:

yeah thanx mido, we switched out the mics
  1:40pm
northguineahills:

tight intro.
  1:42pm
Steven Angelo:

Yo jonwayne-you still gonna be able to play Denver this weekend?

  1:51pm

  1:57pm
Cecile:

home of MFK Fisher and Richard Nixon.
  2:04pm
northguineahills:

I've lost tons of records (usually just the small bag), and equipment in cabs. Part of the reason I stripped down my sets.
  2:07pm
robyn:

  2:08pm
jonwayne:

  2:09pm

  2:13pm
robyn:

i saw a pretty creepy movie yesterday. anyone here seen the stendhal syndrome? dario argento starring asia argento. the music was great, esp the theme (morricone). but kind of a brutal movie. asia was good tho.
  2:16pm
Cecile:

great goof on the 80s.
  2:19pm
Cecile:

Although it was missing the video game "bew" from the synth.
  2:20pm
Cheri Pi:

Is this the African Witch? I love them hard if so.
  2:22pm
Cecile:

both Witch bands are good. In different ways.
  2:22pm
Caryn:

The Stendhal Syndrome is not one of Argento's best, but certainly an interesting movie. And I enjoy seeing Thomas Kretschmann, so there was that.
  2:27pm
jonwayne:

It was the african witch
  2:28pm
robyn:

@Caryn ughhhhhhh he was so creepy. which movies would you recommend?
  2:30pm
pierre:

Bonsoir Duane !
  2:30pm
Duane:

Hola Pierre!
  2:32pm
Caryn:

@robyn: from Argento?
  2:32pm
Stephanie:

Been a long time since I heard this Royksopp track. Perfect segueway!
  2:34pm
robyn:

@Caryn yeah. that was the first argento movie i'd ever seen, actually.
  2:43pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hi Duane, been workin' hard, so no comments, but great show as usual my friend!
  2:44pm
jojo:

awesome show, dreading the end!
  2:46pm
Duane:

Thanx guys!
  2:48pm
Caryn:

Hmm, I'd say "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage", "Profondo Rosso" and the obvious "Suspiria" and "Tenebrae". "Suspiria"s 2 sister movies "Inferno" and "The Mother of Tears" are worth a look. I have a soft spot for "Phenomena" because of the cast and the mood. "Opera" has some nice imagery and a Brian Eno score. Of course, of all movies Argento's been involved with, I always have to mention Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in the West", which is one of my all-time favourite movies. Argento co-wrote it.
  2:49pm
Jennique:

Like Jojo I am dreading the end as well. Why can't you just keep playing until 6:00? I'll have to go to the archives and relisten I guess.
  2:52pm
robyn:

@Caryn oo brian eno. cool. i will look them up..thanks for your thoughtful comment.
  2:54pm
Caryn:

No problem!
  2:56pm
robyn:

hahaha jon wayne's website. nice. great show, thanks guys!
  2:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

Gonna have to relisten to this one too... friggin' work. Sorry about your stuff jonwayne - good luck
  2:57pm
robyn:

i love the "bowser" sleeve. awesome.
  3:12pm
Sean g:

Who sang the song "last mistake" around 2:00?
  4:15pm
bennett4senate:
